        The Aesthetic Evaluation of Coastal Landscape

        The evaluation of coastal landscape is absolutely necessary when coastal zone is managed or coastal space is newly created. However, research on coastal landscape is rare and no guidelines exist for coastal landscape planning and management. This paper therefore aims to present techniques for evaluating coastal landscape from the visual perception opinions of respondents through questionnaire survey and multivariate analysis. The questionnaire is evaluated by the 5-point scale of Semantic Differential (SD) method. With Principal Component Analysis (PCA), the following four principal components are extracted and named as principal component loadings: harmony, safety, rurality, and spatiality. All beaches are classified into the 4 groups by cluster analysis. By plotting scores of their principal components in a 2-dimensional semantic space, the aesthetic characteristics of coastal landscape are clarified for every beach. To clarify the interaction between the principal component scores and the SD scores of preference items, multiple regression analysis is performed. Therefore, the relationship between principal components and the preference trends of coastal landscape will be ascertained. If citizen’s universal perceptions about favorite coastal landscape are understood and their needs are considered in the design and building up of coastal structure or space, more visitors will experience enjoyment, comfort and convenience.         앙케트기법에 의한 제주도 사빈해안의 환경 쾌적성의 평가

        최근, 우리나라에서는 연안역에서의 자연환경의 이용ㆍ개발 및 보호ㆍ보전에 관하여 관심이 다양하게 증대되고 있다. 또한 연안역에서의 공공사업의 추진방향이 주민참여에 의해 결정되는 경우가 늘고 있다. 우리나라는 3면 또는 4면의 바다로 둘러 싸여있으므로 연안역은 앞으로도 중요한 자원이 될 것이다. 이러한 연안역을 친환경적으로 개발해나감에 있어서 연안역의 환경요소의 특성을 파악하는 일이 선행되어야 한다. 현재 우리나라에서는 계측을 통한 양적인 환경특성조사는 개발 전에 실시되고 있지만, 현지주민 혹은 방문객의 의식조사를 통한 질적인 특성을 파악하는 사례가 매우 드물다. 본 연구에서는, 제주도 사빈해안을 대상으로 한 앙케트를 통하여 제주도 사빈해안마다의 질적인 환경특성을 조사하였고, 군집분석과 주성분 분석을 이용하여 제주도 사빈해안의 환경 쾌적성을 평가하였다. 또한 해안마다 앞으로 더 높은 평가를 받기 위해 필요한 개발방향 및 정비대안을 짐작해볼 수 있었다. Recently, the interest about the use and development of natural environment or protection and preservation of that at the coastal area in Korea has variously increased. The case when the promotion direction of a public project at the coastal area is decided by citizen's participation is also increased. Our country is surrounded by sea of 3 or 4 sides, so the coastal area would be also important resources from now on. To grasp the characteristics of the environmental element in progressing such a eco-friendly development at the coastal area has to be precedent. But now in Korea, the quantitative investigation of environment characteristics through measuring has carried out before development, but the investigation which grasps the qualitative characteristics through the perception survey of a local resident or visitor is very rare. Hence it is difficult to assess the values and the coastal environmental characteristics. Therefore by this research, through the Questionnaire survey, the environment characteristics in jeju sand beach were investigated. All beaches were classified into 4 groups using the Cluster Analysis and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). It was impossible to understand developmental direction and maintenance alternative needed in sand beach received low evaluation to receive more high evaluation.
