In cosmetics industry, we notice that the research should be focused on developing well-being related products such as SPA, esthetique, mass-customization, organics, naturals besides inner beauty and body shaping products. These well-being related products should satisfy customers' expectation about not only concern about health but also safety, reliability, and ethos about products. In that context, the systematic way for well-being related research in cosmetics should be carried out concerning anti-aging with fat-decomposition, vitamin, polyphenol, and organics. At the same time, there are several important factors in this research like augmenting efficacy, controlling skin-absorbency, skin-adaptability, forming, stabilization of activated components, improving sustainability, and developing new materials based on dermatologic and emotional science. It should be also emphasized that recent technologies such as bio-technology, nano-technology, and natural-material-technology are the cornerstones of developing well-being products.

나이, 자외선 등 내외적인 여러 가지 스트레스에 의해 일어나는 피부노화 현상은 피부두께의 변화오 함께 세포수 감소 및 피부 신진대사 저하, 생체결합수 손실을 비롯하여 콜라겐, 엘라스틴 등을 세포간물질 감소로 인해 피부속이 바람 빠진 공처럼 함몰되고 골이 생겨 결국 주름지고 거칠은 피부표면의 형태로 나타난다. 피부 노화 현상에 대한 여러 가지 기능적, 구조적 변화를 살피고 피부노화를 억제하기 위한 화장품의 역할과 연구 동향을 살펴 본다.

Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) has been widely used in skin care formulations. Due to its remarkable effects on anti-oxidation, collagen biosynthesis and whitening, ascorbic acid is considered as an effectible anti-aging active ingredient. But, the instability problems of ascorbic acid in cosmetic formulation such as oxidation, browning and changes in smell is the difficult issue to be overcome for the application of high concentration of ascorbic acid. We tried to stabilize the ascorbic acid in non-aqueous liquid formulation that contains polyol solvent at first. The non-aqueous system was effectible to reduce oxidation. But, ascorbic acid was crystallized in the non-aqueous formulation at the low temperature below 5℃. We tried to develop way to stabilize the ascorbic acid in aqueous solutions to solve the crystallizing problem. In this study, we search the optimal ratio of antioxidant combination, such as zinc sulfate, glutathione and curcuma longa (turmeric) root extract. Formulations were stored at - 16℃, 5℃, 25℃, 40℃, 50℃ and cycle(5 - 40℃) (in incubator) for a period of eight weeks to investigate their stability. In the stability analysis, the test parameters consisted of color, scent, phase separation and sedimentation. Ascorbic acid stability was checked by HPLC analysis.

The important elements influencing on the quality of make-up cosmetics are not only the ingredients themselves but also the cosmetic tool that delivers the ingredients. But sensory analysis by a has been used on a number of occasion. Therefore it is not reliable to apply the data to other products and not easy to identify the elements influencing the qualities of cosmetics. So we Intend to understand the elements influencing the quality of cosmetics and prepare the foundation by introducing objective measurement method. In this study, we fix the loose powder and make new loose powder puff. So we can accomplish objective measurement.
바륨설페이트/티타늄디옥사이드/디메치콘의 복합화 및 메이크업에서의 응용

Sensor and optical properties have become critical features in powder foundation. The flaky barium sulfate powder shows good smooth texture, adhesion and natural looking characteristics. However, it has limitations abilities in UV shielding, hiding and blooming effect. Thus we adopt TiO₂ that has excellent hiding power and blooming effect as well as UV shielding ability, but TiO₂ has still intrinsic problems in dispersion and texture. To overcome this disadvantages, the barium sulfate/TiO₂/dimethicone composite powder was prepared. The flaky barium sulfate powder was coated with TiO₂ in nanoscale and followed by coated with dimethicone. When this surface-modified powder was applied for make-up cosmetics, especially in powder foundation, the powder gave powder foundation more good characteristics than the original flaky barium sulfate, TiO₂ powder, dimethicone in abovementioned optical and sensory properties. To characterize the distinctive features of this surface-modified powder, we measured its characteristics with UV in vitro tester, hiding powder test method, goniophotometer, consumer panel test and so on.
전단응력 하에서 에멀젼 상 변이의 실시간 측정을 위한 전기 유변학적 연구

To know what happens to the internal structure of emulsions under high shear flow is very important for cosmetic product development because it is highly relevant to the physical degradation of emulsions during the application upon the skin. Here, in order to investigate the response of emulsions against the external shear forces, we designed a new device, JELLI<sup>TM</sup> (Joint Electro-rheometer for Liquid-Liquid Inversion) chip, for the measurement of electrical and rheological properties of emulsions under shear flow. By using this device, we examined the real-time changes in conductivities of oil-in-water (O/W) and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions on the artificial skin during large deformation under shear flow. In this study, O/W and W/O emulsions having various volumes were prepared. After emulsions were homogeneously applied on the artificial skin, the electrical resistance and viscosity changes were monitored under steady shear flow. In case of O/W emulsions, the resistance increased as a function of time. The resistance showed more dramatic increase as the increase of the internal oil phase. It was also found that the viscosity change was proportional to the resistance variation. This phenomenon might be caused by decreased resisting forces against the shear flow because of the breakdown of the internal phase.
