The EPCglobal Network is a computer network used to share product data among trading partners. It provides the supply chain with improved visibility and traceability by using Electronic Product Code (EPC), which is stored on an RFID tag. Although this network model is widely accepted as a global standard and the growth of EPCglobal-subscriber base is considerable, the EPC technology adoption process is still in its infancy. This is because some of the critical issues on this model still remain to be verified such as scalability, data management, security, privacy and the economic value of data sharing. In this paper, we focus on scalability issue among the challenges to overcome and we regard performance of the EPCglobal Network only as a track and trace query-processing cost in the network. We developed performance models consisting of three elements of the EPCglobal Network : Discovery Services (DS), EPC Information Services (EPCIS), Object Naming Services (ONS). Then we abstracted out the track and trace query execution model to evaluate performance of the overall EPCglobal Network. Finally using the proposed models, we carried out simulation analysis based on an RFID-based inbound logistics process of automobile parts. This work is an important step towards the EPC technology diffusion and provides guidelines for businesses looking to buy or build the EPCglobal Network-based systems.
RFID-based Supply Chain Process Mining for Imported Beef

Through the development of efficient data collecting technologies like RFID, and inter-enterprise collaboration platforms such as web services, companies which participate in supply chains can acquire visibility over the whole supply chain, and can make decisions to optimize the overall supply chain networks and processes, based on the extracted knowledge from historical data collected by the visibility system. Although not currently active, the MeatWatch system has been developed,and is used in part for this purpose, in the imported beef distribution network in Korea. However, the imported beef distri-bution network is too complicated to analyze its various aspects using ordinary process analysis approaches. In this paper,we suggest a novel approach, called RFID-based supply chain process mining, to automatically discover and analyze the overall supply chain processes from the distributed RFID event data, without any prior knowledge. The proposed approach was implemented and validated, by using a case study of the imported beef distribution network in Korea. Specifically we demonstrated that the proposed approach can be successfully applied to discover supply chain networks from the distributed event data, to simplify the supply chain networks, and to analyze anomaly of the distribution networks. Such novel process mining functionalities can reinforce the capability of traceability services like MeatWatch in the future.
기업정보시스템과 RFID 시스템의 효과적인 연동을 위한 프레임워크 개발

RFID 기술은 기업으로 하여금 단품 수준에서의 의사 결정을 통한 정교한 재고 관리를 가능하게 한다. 최근 EPCglobal과 같은 RFID 정보 교환 표준이 보급됨에 따라 RFID 시스템은 RFID 하드웨어, 미들웨어, 정보 저장소로 구성된 정보 시스템으로 간주되고 있으며 이는 중요한 시스템 통합의 대상으로 부상하였다. 본 연구에서는 RFID 시스템과 기업정보시스템의 효과적인 연동을 위하여 연동 모델 선택 절차와 각 절차별 고려사항을 총 다섯 가지 단계로 구성한 RFID 시스템-기업정보시스템 연동 프레임워크를 제안하였다. 또한 국내 RFID 시스템과 기업정보시스템 연동 현황과 향후 적합한 연동 모델을 설문 조사를 통하여 제시하였다. 본 연구에서 제안한 연동 프레임워크와 설문 결과는 RFID 시스템을 처음 도입하는 기업이 RFID 시스템과 기업정보시스템을 효과적으로 통합할 수 있도록 기여할 것이다. RFID technology enables companies to precisely manage their inventories at the item level. Recently, due to the wide spread of RFID data-exchange standards, RFID systems are being recognized as separate information systems, each of which is consist of RFID hardwares, a middleware and data repositories, thereby RFID systems become common targets for system integration. In this paper, we proposed an effective integration framework between RFID systems and existing enterprise information systems (EIS). We also surveyed the current state of the RFID-EIS system integration practices. The proposed framework will be helpful for system developers to effectively integrate RFID systems with EIS’s.
제조 온톨로지 기반 품질예측 프레임워크 및 시스템 개발 : 사출성형공정 사례

Today, many manufacturing companies realize that collaboration is crucial for their survival. Especially, in the perspective of quality, the importance of collaboration is emphasized because economic loss increases exponentially while defective parts go through the process in supply chain. However, the manufacturing companies are facing two main difficulties in implementing collaborative relationships with their suppliers. First, it is difficult for the suppliers to produce reliable products due to their obsolete facilities. The problem gets worse for second- or third-tire vendors. Second, the companies experience the lack of universally understandable set of terminology and effective methodologies for knowledge representation. Ontology is one of the best approaches to expressing and processing a domain knowledge. In this paper, we propose the manufacturing ontology-based quality prediction framework to represent and share the knowledge of industrial environment and to predict product quality in manufacturing processes. In addition, we develop the ontology-based quality prediction system based on the proposed framework. We carried out a series of experiments for an injection molding process at an automotive part supplier. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed framework and system can be successfully applicable in manufacturing industry.
