Vol.8 No.2

The frequency of reicprocal translocation damage in males of D. melanogaster irradiated with X-rays was observed in this study. The frequencies were checked at four periods with two days intervals and duration spermatogenesis after irradiation. (1) Modification in the percentage of the reciprocal translocation damage were not obtained at interval after irradiated with 500r and 1500r of X-rays respectively. (2) In two experimental groups irradiated with 50-0r and 1500r of X-rays, the frequencies showing in the spermatogenesis were 0.50%(500r), 3.85%(1500r) in mature sperm, and 1.59%, 8.10% in the spermatocyte. (3) The frequency of reciprocal translocation between the Y and 3 rd chromosomes was the highest, but in accordance with dosage increase that of 2nd and 3rd chromosomes relatively increased from 9.34 % to 30.49% while decreased from 68.75% to 46.80% in the group of the Y and 3 rd chromosomes. (4) It was supposed that these modifications of the frequency were due to heavy damage of the 2nd chromosomes than other chromosomes in accordance with dosage increase. (5) Spontaneous reciprocal translocations involving the Y, 2nd and 3rd chormosomes was 0.23%.

Vol.1 No.2

31 species, 5 genera of Drosophilidae had been obtained on 11 localities of Seoul and its adjacent and during the period of May ∼October, 1957. The species which distributed widely were Drosophila (Sophophora) quraria, D.(drosophila) angularis D.(D.) brachiynephros, D/(D.) nigromaculata, Scaptomyza disticha and D.(Sophophora) melanogaster. The localities where relatively many species of Drosophilidae were collected were Kwang Neung (25 species, 4 genera) and Sosa(13 species, 2 genera)

Vol.2 No.2

Concluding the result of this observation, authors obtained the table showing chromosome numbers which are consisted in each species as follow. Viewing on this result, authors recognized Acrididae are determined the sex with X-O type. 6 species of Family Acrididae and one species of Family Gryllotalpidae (on above table) had already calculated the number of chromosomes by some foreign observers. But another one species (Briodema tuberculatum dilatum STOLL) clarified by authors firstly in this observation. In 2nd spermatocyte of Trilophidia annulata YHUMBERG 1 to 3 Ist constriction satellites were observed, and each of the small bodies was connected with thin fibre and constituted with same or less breadth as the main chromosomes. If those are not the satellites, they should be the super-numerary chromosomes appearing a dot form. In this observation, among 48 species of Family Acrididae which have been found in Korea 18 species were calculated their chromosome numbers which were including 1 species calculated by authors newly. And authors have reobserved the chromosomes of Gryllotalpa africana PALISOT de BEUVOIS of Family Gryllotalpidae which was done by Japanese before.

Vol.2 No.2

The collections of Drosophilid filies were made for this stduy in three localities (Kwang-nung in Kyung-ki province, Chae-ju Island, Yong-Moon in Kyung -Ki province), during a period from April to October, 1959. Total specimens 7857 collected at these areas were classified into 7 genera, 67 species. Among these species, 5 genera, 17 species are unrecorded species Drosophilidae of Korea.

Vol.3 No.1

        1. Author has surveyed the frequency, geographic variation and micro-geographic variation of the elytral pattern types and the elytral edge of the population of lady-beetle, Harmonia axyridis Pallace which was collected in Seoul and the other 6 localities in Korea. 2. The number of specimen collected were 3.051 in which succinea occupied 88.32 % : Axyridis, 1.00% : spectabilis, 6.145 : and Conspicua , 4.545. 3. Of all 84.80% were found to have elytral edge. 4. There was a little difference in compositional proportation of the above four types to population and in the frequency of elytral edge between the population of west seaside and that of inland of Korea. 5. An interesting micro-geographic variation was observed in Dae-Chun, a beach located on west seaside of south Korea. In this locality , the Succinea occupied 45.23% and 27.805 were found to be provided with elytral edge in the specimen collected in pine trees ( Pinus thunbergii Parlatore), while in the specimen collected in burley field, oak, willow etc. 92.00% were Succinea and 90.93% were found to have elytral edge.

Vol.3 No.2

For the study on the sex ratio in natural populations of the different localities, the amphibian species were collected as the materials at the seven localities in Korea, and were obtained the following results. The sex ratios of each amphibian species suggest that each has it's own specific sex rations the following list. Rana nigromaculata H. : 109-39, Rana rugosa SCH. : 67.44, Rana temporaria coreana O. : 158.45, Hyla arborea japonica G. : 137.70. In Rana nigromaculata H. the average sex ratio was 109.39 as the above list, and its was reached statistically significant level according to the different localiies. The sex ratio was generally higher in the eastern area than that in the western area in this country. The sex ratio of the adult frogs of Rana nigromaculata H. was 135.18 , and it has a statistically significant level by each locality but the sex ratio of the younger frogs of the same species was 100.97 which was a little lower than that in the adult, and it was not laid at a significant level according to the localities. There is no doubt that the difference of sex ratios according to the localities was mainly due to the different ratios of the adult frogs which were effected on the constitution of sex by environmental factors in each locality.

Vol.4 No.1

At the altitude of approximately 250 of Mt. Sori located in Kyung-gi Co, Korea authers have made a field collection of Drosophila during June, 1 and 15, 1961, and found about 30 specimens which seemed to be a new species belonging to Genus Drosophila, Subgenus Hirtodrosophila. AUthors have named the species : D. macromaculata sp. nov. " Its Korean name is given , : Uluck-muni-chopari". This species is very similar to Drosophila cheda in its external feature and especially it that each of four stripes in the mesonotum is cut into tow, and it also resembles with Drosophila calloptera in that it has three distinct spots in the wing. Its first segment of abdomen is yellow-brown in color while both end points are black. The second segment is black and in its middle part there yellow-brownish strips of V form, the peripheral part of which are found two spots of yellow brownish color. On third to fifth segments of male and on third to sixth segments of female there are fod-form spots, one on each segment, and on both sides of these rods two smaller spots are found in each segment. This species is clearly a fungus feeder and its breeding in authers laboratory is at present, not attained. Holotype : male , Kwang-nung, Kyung -gi Do, South Korea, 1 Male June, 1, 1961. Allotype : female, collected together with holotype. Paratype : Kwang-nung, Male 16 and female 12. Distribution : South Korea. Collecting method : Net sweeping on the decayed trees.yed trees.
