The novels by Kim Dong In are divided into two groups; historical novels and nonhistorical ones. In writing historical novels he is faitful to the historical facts, but .he restructures them into a novel. This makes his historical novels different from those of Lee kwang Soo. In order words, the historical viewpoint of Kim Dong In is opposite to that of Lee Kwang Soo. So a strong will of those who challege against the royal power and the tragedy of King's love and the ruin of the Kingdom are fictionalized in Kim's litrary works. In the former case he describes the image of heroes who stand up to the King, and seems to pursue the will to be strong. In latter case, he describes the sad love story of a King as a human being, resulting in the ruin of the kingdom. Thus I cannot help indicating the fact that the fictionalization of historical facts is not centered on the side of common people but on the history of the dynasty. As a result, the struggle for power rising from personal ambition is inclined to be stressed upon. This is a big defect. But it is highly valuable that he encourages people to have the consciousness of the recovery of the national right in .a historical sense. Considering these novels were written under the Japanese occupation, this effort to promote the patriotic feelings is greatly favourable to Korean people (readers).
『성학십도(聖學十圖)』에 나타난 인성덕목의 교육적 의의

The purpose of this study is to examine the value of humanity education through the virtue of personality in the 『Ten Diagrams on Sage』written by Toegye(退溪) Lee Hwang(李滉) for the monarch. 『Ten Diagrams on Sage』 is a system of Sacred Learning of Confucianism and composed of with Ten Diagrams. This system includes virtues that a monarch should have as a monarch. The personality virtues that can be seen in the 『Ten Diagrams on Sage』are mainly Ren(仁), filial piety, empathy and reverence. Through this personality virtue, we can understand the meaning and method of cultivating personality. First is the acquisition and practice of the Ren(仁) through “Giving up the desire and going back to the mind”. By doing this, you will be able to cultivate your own insight. The second is the practice of filial piety. We can achieve social relations by honoring our parents, being friendly with our brothers, and practicing the spirit of a empathy that loves others. Thirdly, it is the cultivation through reverence. With the reverence as the core of fostering social and emotional ability can be cultivated. You can control your emotions through the cultivation of reverence, which can help resolve conflicts with people. 본 연구는 퇴계 이황이 군주를 위해 집필한 『성학십도』에 나타난 인성덕목을 통해 인성교육의 가치를 살펴보고자 하였다. 『성학십도』는 10개의 도상으로 ‘성학(聖學)’의 체계를 담고 있다. 이러한 체계에는 군주로서 갖추어야 할 덕목이 포함되어 있다. 『성학십도』에서 볼 수 있는 인성덕목은 주로 인, 효제, 서, 경으로 파악할 수 있다. 이러한 인성덕목을 통해 인성을 함양할 수 있는 방법과 의미를 알 수 있다. 첫째 극기복례를 통한 인의 체득과 실천이다. 이를 통해 자기 통찰력을 함양시킬 수 있을 것이다. 둘째 효제와 서의 실천이다. 부모를 공경하고 형제간에 우애 있게 지내며 다른 사람을 헤아릴 줄 아는 서의 정신을 실천하는 것으로 사회관계를 원만하게 이룰 수 있다. 셋째 경을 통한 수양이다. 경은 수양의 핵심으로 사회‧정서적 능력을 함양할 수 있다. 경의 수양을 통해 자신의 감정을 조절할 수 있고 이는 사람들과의 갈등을 해결하는데 일조할 수 있다.
