장성기 영산대학교 2000 영산논총 Vol.5 No.-
Manufacturing systems have existed for as long as people have produced goods and services. The manufacturing system is in constant interaction with its environment. Global competition has put a premium on quality, reliability, customer responsiveness, efficient investment of capital and increased productivity of labor. As a result of the changes in manufacturing, the computer integrated manufacturing(CIM) which has been widely implemented in recent years must be re-evaluated and strategically employed. With the revolutionary advances in information, telecommunication, and computing technologies, we foresee needs for a new approach in design, process, and the use of materials, technologies, and people. The basic philosophy of manufacturing should be shifted from traditionl "factory integration" to a "virtual factory" management view. Therefore, the focus of the new manufacutring system is to integrate engineering and production with their part suppliers and customers across distance to interactively design, plan, and process the manufacturing activities.
