From the ethyl acetate fraction of the methanol extract of the fruits of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten, two dihydroflavonois were isolated and identified as (+)-trans-dihydrokaempferol (1) and (+)-trans-dihydroquercetin (2) by spectroscopic methods.

The purpose of this study was to compare combinations of the four visible light irradiating appliances (Translux, Heliomat, Pluraflex HL 150, Omega) and the four visible light activated composite resins (Durafil, Heliosit, Plurafil-super, Silux) to determine the depth of polymerization of each combination. Twenty samples were made with Durafil, Five samples were polymerized for 20 seconds using Translux, five with Heliomat, five with Pluraflex HL 150, five with Omega. Twenty samples were made with Heliosit, twenty with Plurafil-super, and twenty samples with Silux. A 20-second polymerization time was applied with each of 4 visible light irradiating appliances to 5 samples of each material. Eighty samples were treated in a like manner, but polymerization was extended to 40 seconds. Depth of polymerization were measured with caliper. The results were as follows. 1) Of the two time exposures, 40-second exposure provided a significantly greater depth of polymerization than 20-second for each light with each material. 2) Durafill-Translux system showed minimum depth of polymerization, and Plurafil-Pluraflex system showed maximum depth of polymerization. 3) Visible light irradiating appliances were able to harden the resins cured by the visible lights of other makers' apparatuses. 4) In all circumstances, depth of polymerization was between 3.0∼3.8㎜.

From the 60% aqueous methanolic fraction of Moutan Cortex Radicis two hyaluronidase inhibitors were isolated and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Their structures were identified as paeoniflorin (com-pound I) and oxypaeoniflorin (compound II). Compound I and II exhibited hyaluronidase inhibitory activities with $IC_{50}$ of 1.71 and 1.73mM, respectively.

목적: 각막 곡률반경을 Pentacam(Oculus inc., Germany)을 이용하여 측정하고 연령과 굴절이상도에 따라 비교·분석하였다. 방법: 본 연구의 취지에 동의하고 안질환이 없으며, 시력교정수술을 시행하지 않은 대학생 군 51명(남성 29명, 여성 22명, 평균나이 22.50±3.31세)과 장노년군 39명(남성 21명, 여성 18명, 평균나이 54.26±6.25세)을 선정하여 타각식 및 자각식 굴절검사를 실시하였고, Pentacam(Oculus inc., Germany)을 이용하여 각막 곡률반경을 측정하였다. 결과: 연령에 따른 각막 전면 곡률반경은 연령이 높을수록 짧았고(p=0.005), 유의한 상관관계가 있었다(r=-0.259, p=0.000). 각막 후면 곡률반경은 연령이 높을수록 짧았고(p=0.043), 유의한 상관관계가 있었다(r=-0.282, p=0.000). 굴절이상에 따른 각막 전면 곡률반경은 근시군이 정시군보다 짧았으나(p=0.016), 상관관계가 없었다. 각막 후면 곡률반경은 근시군이 정시군보다 짧았고(p=0.001), 유의한 상관관계가 있었다(r=-0.258, p=0.001). 결론: 연령과 각막 전·후면 곡률반경은 상관관계가 있었다. 굴절이상과 각막 후면 곡률반경은 상관관계가 있었고, 굴절이상과 각막 전면 곡률반경은 상관관계가 없었다. Purpose: This study measured corneal radius according to age and refractive error using Pentacam and analyzed its characteristics. Methods: For this study, we sampled 51 under-graduate students (29 males and 22 females, average age 22.50±3.31) and 39 elderly people (21 males and 18 females, average age 54.26±6.25) who gave their consent to the objective of this study and did not have any ocular diseases, ocular diseases history and refractive surgery. With the subjects, we performed objective and subjective refraction and measured the corneal radius using Pentacam. Results: The anterior corneal radius was shorter at an old age (p=0.005), and there was a significant correlation (r=0.259, p=0.000). The posterior corneal radius-was shorter at an old age (p=0.043), and there was a significant correlation (r=-0.282, p=0.000). According to refractive error, the anterior corneal radius was shorter in the myopes than in the emmetropes (p=0.016), but there was no correlation. The posterior corneal radius was shorter in the myopes than in the emmetropes (p=0.001), and there was a significant correlation (r=0.258, p=0.001). Conclusion: Age was correlated with the anterior and posterior corneal radius. Refractive error was correlated with the posterior corneal radius, but not with the anterior corneal radius.

The aqueous and methanolic extracts of 110 crude drugs were screened for hyaluronidase inhibitory activity using a microplate assay. Among them, MeOH extract of 15 crude drugs inhibited more than 80% of hyauluronidase activity at the concentration of 5mg/ml. The active principles of Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, Rhei Rhizoma, Ephedrae Herba, Pteropi Faeces and Ginseng Radix alba were transferred into organic solvents.
상아질(象牙質)의 산부식(酸腐蝕)이 치수조직(齒髓組織)에 미치는 영향(影響)에 관(關)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the pulpal responses to acid etching of dentine. Total 72 class V cavaties' were prepared on the healthy permanent teeth from 6 dogs, and were divided into 4 groups. These were filled with filling materials after acid etching with each etchant for 1 min. Control group ; ZOE filling without acid etching. Group 1: Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling. Group 2: Drying with hot air and Zinc oxide-Eugenol cement filling. Group 3: Scotchbond application and silux filling. Group 4: Silux filling. The dogs were sacrificed after 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks and 6 weeks following operation. The specimens were routinely prepared and stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin. Followings were the results obtained through microscopic examination. 1. There was mostly severe pulpal responses in case of Silux filling after acid etching of dentine. 2. The pulpal responses of Silux filling after acid etching and application of Scotch bond group were more severe compared to Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling group, but less severe compared to Silux filling group after acid etching of dentine. 3. The pulpal responses of Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling group were similar to those of Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling after drying with hot air group. 4. There was slight pulpal responses in early stage in case of Zinc Oxide-Eugenol cement filling group, but recovered to normal state soon after.

Hyaluronidase is one of the mucopolysaccharide-splitting enzyme and is related to the permeability of the vascular system and inflammation. An anti-hyaluronidase assay guided fractionation of the methanolic extract of Uncariae Ramulus et Uncus has furnished a pentacyclic triterpene, ursolic acid (compound I). Compound I exhibited hyaluronidase inhibitory activity with $IC_{50}$ value of 0.15 mM, and disodium cromoglycate showed the inhibitory activity with $IC_{50}$ value of 1.78 mM as a positive control.
