      • Effect of Ionizing Radiation on Rat Tissue: Proteomic and Biochemical Analysis

        <P>Reactive oxygen species (ROS), generated by ionizing radiation, has been implicated in its effect on living tissues. We confirmed the changes in the oxidative stress markers upon irradiation. We characterized the changes in the proteome profile in rat liver after administering irradiation, and the affected proteins were identified by MALDI-TOF-MS and ESI-MS/MS. The identified proteins represent diverse sets of proteins participating in the cellular metabolism. Our results demonstrated that proteomics analysis is a useful method for characterization of a global proteome change caused by ionizing radiation to unravel the molecular mechanisms involved in the cellular responses to ionizing radiation.</P>

        국립공원 아고산대 독립훼손지 복원식생 분포특성 및 관리방안

        본 연구는 독립훼손지 중 아고산대에 위치한 지리산국립공원 세석평전과 노고단 복원식생지를 대상으로 현존식생 분석 및 식생분포 특성을 파악하여 중장기적인 모니터링 및 관리방안 수립을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 수행하였다. 현존식생 조사범위는 훼손지 일대 유역권분포 현황을 고려하여 설정하였으며, 세석평전 조사면적은 55,037㎡, 노고단 조사면적은 166,599㎡ 이었다. 세석평전은 초본층에 의한 식생피복도는 90% 이상 수준으로서 나지노출이 없었고, 관목층의 피복도가 60% 이상으로 안정화되어 있었다. 주요 출현수종은 구상나무, 사스래나무, 쇠물푸레나무, 철쭉, 털진달래, 붉은병꽃나무 등 식재수종과 자연적으로 이입한 자생수종이 생육하고 있었다. 노고단은 신갈나무, 호랑버들, 철쭉, 털진달래, 미역줄나무 등이 우점하는 관목식생지가 52%로 가장 넓게 분포하고 있었고, 전반적으로 식생활착 상태가 양호하였다. 노고단의 원식생은 신갈나무군락으로 추정되었고, 군부대철거지에는 귀화식물이 분포하고 있기 때문에 적극적인 관리가 필요하였다. 연구대상지는 장기적으로 주변 자연식생과 조화로운 식생경관으로 발달할 것으로 예측되었다. 향후 훼손지 복원모델은 인근 지역의 원식생을 고려하여 설정해야 할 것이지만, 복원 달성 목표는 실현가능한 수준의 목표를 설정해야 할 것이다. This study was conducted to provide basic data for mid-to long-term monitoring and establishment of management plans by analyzing the existing vegetation and identifying the vegetation distribution characteristics for the restored vegetation in Nogodan and Seseokpyeongjeon in Jirisan National Park located in the subalpine zone among the independent damaged areas. Actual vegetation survey range was established in consideration of the distribution of the watershed around the damaged area. The surveyed area of Seseokpyeongjeon was 55,037㎡, and the surveyed area of Nogodan was 166,599㎡. In Seseokpyeongjeon, the vegetation coverage by the herbaceous layer was almost 90% or more, there was no bare exposure, and the coverage of the shrub layer was stabilized at 60% or more. The main emerging tree species were planted species such as Abies koreana, Betula ermanii, Fraxinus sieboldiana, Rhododendron schlippenbachii, Rhododendron mucronulatum var. ciliatum, and Weigela florida as well as natively migrated native species. In Nogodan, the shrub vegetation dominated by Quercus mongolica, Salix caprea, Rhododendron schlippenbachii, Rhododendron mucronulatum var. ciliatum, and Tripterygium regelii was the most widely distributed with 52% of the area, and the overall diet was good. The native vegetation of Nogodan was presumed to be a cypress colony. Naturalized plants were distributed in the military base demolition site, so active management was required. The study site was predicted to develop into a vegetation landscape in harmony with the surrounding natural vegetation in the long term. In the future, the restoration model for damaged areas should be set in consideration of the native vegetation of the nearby area, but the goal to achieve restoration should be set at a feasible level.

        Body temperature is controlled by thermoregulatory center of the hypothalamus. We report a case of 24 years old man with central fever. He was subjected to a partial excision of pituitary tumor compressing optic chiasm four years ago. He has received hormonal therapy for panhypothyroidism after removal of pituitary tumor. And He received gamma knife operation for partially contrast-enhancing masses in suprasellar and both hypothalamic areas that is probably postoperatively remnant or recurrent tumor of pituitary adenoma. One year after gamma knife operation, he presented with a febrile syndrome of unknown origin including rhabdomyolysis. All usual investigations proved negative. We diagnosed him as central fever with rhabdomyolysis. He received medical ICU care with cooling bed, ice pack. And his symptom improved. Postoperative hyperthermia may result following resection of the pituitary tumor. When central fever is suspected taking note of past history, a quick recognition of course of fever can help reduce the using of unnecessary antibiotics and hospital stay.

        정맥주입 전문간호사가 삽입한 말초삽입형 중심정맥관(PICC) 사용 결과에 대한 후향적 분석

        Background : Intravenous(Ⅳ) access is becoming an increasingly important part of health care today. The current drive for clinical effectiveness and cost-effective health care serves to increase the need for reliable vascular access. Venous access devices were developed to overcome problems associated with limited peripheral access and frequent venipuncture in patients with long-term therapy. Although the peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) have become popular during recent years in USA, its procedure is rare in Korea. Purpose : The goal of this study was to analyze the PICC inserted patient data by Ⅳ CNS intervention. Method : A Total of 62 PICCs were inserted into 51 patients by the Ⅳ CNS during a 10-month period form November, 14, 2002, to October 2, 2W2. Data was obtained retrospectively through chart review. Result : The patient population included 34(54.8%) men and 28(45.2%) women, with a mean age 50.6 years. The main indication for PICC placement was to access vein in poor peripheral venous status(40.3%). The mean served interval for PICC insertions was 16.7 days(range, 2~61 days). The reasons for removal were completed therapy in 18 cases(29.0%), patient death in 13 cases(21.0%), and mechanical or functional PICC problem in 10cases(16.1%). The three PICCs removed for presumed infection, and one had only positive tip cultures(0.2%). Conclusion : PICCs are rapidly growing popularity and required an extended course of Ⅳ therapy.

        동물의 장에서 분리한 Enterococcus sp.의 특성 및 분말화

        의약품 및 동물약품으로 사용되고 있는 분말유산균을 개발하고자 동물의 장에서 산성 pH 및 담즙산에 대한 내성이 강하고 대장균 생육억제력이 좋은 Enterococcus faecium L20을 분리 동정하고 이를 이용하여 고농도의 생균이 함유된 분말 유산균을 제조하였다. 분리된 균주는 pH 3.0에서 90% 이상의 내성과 0.3% 담즙산이 함유된 배지에서 100%의 내성을 나타냈으며 MRS 배지에서 대장균과 혼합배양시 24시간 이내에 대장균을 사멸시켰다. 분리된 균주를 산업용배지에서 배양한 후 동결건조시켜 분말을 만들었을 때 생균수는 5.0×0^11/g 이상이었다. 이것은 18℃에 보관하였을 경우 11개월 동안 80%의 생존율을 나타내었다. In order to develop a lactic acid bacterial powder which can be used as a probiotic for human and animal, a lactic acid bacteria which has high resistance against low pH and ox-gall, and shows a good growth inhibition against low pH and ox-gall, and shows a good growth inhibition against E. coli, was isolated from an animal intestine and characterized. The isolated strain was identified as Enterococcus faecium. It had more than 90% of survival at low pH for 2 hours and almost 100% of survival in the presence of 0.3% ox-gall. When co-cultured with E. coli in MRS broth, all of the E. coli cells were killed within 24 hours. The final powdered product of the isolated strain was manufactured after a freeze drying process suing an industrial media, and then checked its stability. Its storage stability was 80% for 11 months at 18℃.

      • 제7차 교육과정의 과학교과서 지질단원에 대한 연계성 분석

        Using the task analysis technique, this study analyzes the contents of study and inquiry activities of geo-science units in twelve textbooks in total, which include eight elementary level textbooks from the third to sixth grades, three middle school level textbooks, one high school level science book. After choosing several main concepts, this paper analyzes the connection and hierarchy among them and presents the hierarchical structure as a diagram. The conclusions drawn from this study are as follows: First, from the analysis of studying content on geo-science unit, in the science education content from e third to tenth grades, the articulation of the major concepts, such as the inner part of the earth, rocks, plate tectonics, volcanic activities and earthquakes, layers and fossils, and gen-structure, are well associated with one another; on the other hand, unnecessary repetition and discontinuation appear in the mineral and gen-history sections. Overall, from simpler subjects, such as those related to the daily life, to the more complex scientific ones, the connection of contents is well maintained, which corresponds to the principle of organizing contents in the 7th curriculum. Second, the proportion of inquiry activities from analyzing inquiry content relating geo-science, is as follows: at the elementary school level, a total of thirty-one inquiry activities composed of observation (51.6%) and experiment (19.4%); at the middle school level, a total of twenty-seven inquiry activities consisted of data analysis (47.1%), experiment (25.9%) and observation (18.5%); at the high school level, these comprised data analysis (47.1%), discussion(17.6%), and follow-up (11.8%). Such findings show that while elementary schools focus on the observation of geological phenomena around us, middle schools on the data analysis, experiment, and observation, and high schools on particularly on the data analysis. Third, one of the important principles of the seventh curriculum is to compile textbooks in order to maintain the articulation between contents accordingly from the third grade to the tenth grade. The seventh curriculum emphasizes teaching and learning according to this code, and this paper presents the hierarchical structure as a diagram showing the flow among main learning points, It would contribute to improve instruction of science teachers in elementary, middle and high schools by helping to fully understand the hierarchical structure of the geo-science unit. therefore It will facilitates the application and settlement of the seventh curriculum.

        Experimental results from the cycle lateral load tests for post-tensioned precast wide beam-column connections were presented. Six exterior beam-column assemblages of half scale were tested in the laboratory. The specimens consist of U-shaped precast wide beams and concrete columns. The continuity at the beam-column joint is achieved with the topping concrete and post-tensioning. The specimens were designed with parameters of the beam-to-column depth ration and the number of tendons within column core. The test results showed that the post-tensioned precast wide beam-column connection satisfied the provisional standard by ACI of acceptance criteria for concrete special moment frames.

        포화수증기압 개념에 대한 예비 과학 교사들의 이해

        본 연구는 예비과학교사들이 포화수증기압 개념을 설명하는 과정에서 나타나는 이해를 밝히고자 하였다. 과학교육을 전공하는 여섯 명의 예비과학교사들을 대상으로 포화수증기압에 대한 설명을 요구하는 반구조화된 면담이 이루어졌다. 전사된 면담 내용과 비디오자료, 그리고 설명 과정에서 그려진 스케치 자료를 분석하여 참여자의 이해를 구조화하였다. 연구 결과, 예비과학교사가 대기 중의 물 개념을 설명하는 과정에서 다양한 이해가 표출되었다. 포화수증기압에 대한 이해로 분자운동론적 설명, 대기의 영향을 고려한 분자운동론적 설명, 기화압력을 이용한 설명, 확산 개념을 이용한 설명, 수증기의 공간을 한정시키는 설명이 나타났다. 예비과학교사들은 포화수증기압 개념에 대해 다양한 대안 개념을 가지고 있으며, 물의 상태 변화에 대한 분자운동론적 이해와 포화수증기압 개념을 통한 이해가 서로 연결되지 못하고 있음을 보여주었다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the understandings that represent that, in this course, the preservice science teachers have explained the concept of saturation vapor pressure. To do so, semi-structured interviews that requested students to explain saturation vapor pressure to six preservice science teachers were carried out. The preservice science teachers' understanding of the material was constructed by analyzing transcribed protocols, video tapes, and sketches that were drawn during the explanation. As a result of the research, a variety of understandings was discovered when the preservice science teachers explained the concept of atmospheric water. Understandings about saturation vapor pressure include the idea of molecular motion; the molecular motion model is considered to influence atmospheric pressure, the evaporation pressure model, the diffusion model and the limited space model. Preservice science teachers had alternative conceptions of saturation vapor pressure. The understanding of saturation vapor pressure and the understanding of the molecular motion model describing the change of water state are not connected.

        B-A type hot cathode ionization gauge to measure the UHV(Ultra High Vacuum) was generally used in these days. Whereas, HV(High Vacuum) is still major pressure region in the application of vacuum to the industry. Conventional triode gauge(CTG) is used mainly for measurement in HV region, thus we constructed the modified triode gauge(MTG). In order to find the optimum condition of MTG. We measured I_e vs U_c, I_e vs U_g and U_c, I_e vs U_g and P, I_i vs U_g and P as well as I_i vs P because I_i is depend on pressure(P), filament potential(U_c), grid potential(U_g), filament heating power(Hp), and emission current(I_e). The good linearity of I_i P curve is obtained from ∼10^-6 to ∼10^-4 torr at 5A heating current, 200V grid potential, 40V filament potential and below ∼10^-7 torn at 4.6A.
