      • rs12904 Polymorphism in the 3'UTR of EFNA1 is Associated with Colorectal Cancer Susceptibility in a Chinese Population

        Mao, Ying-Ying,Jing, Fang-Yuan,Jin, Ming-Juan,Li, Ying-Jun,Ding, Ye,Guo, Jing,Wang, Fen-Juan,Jiang, Long-Fang,Chen, Kun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.9

Accumulated evidence has indicated that Ephrin A1 (EFNA1) is associated with angiogenesis and tumorigenesis in various types of malignancies, including colorectal cancer (CRC). In the current study, we performed an online search using the public microarray database to investigate whether EFNA1 expression might be altered in CRC tissues. We then conducted a case-control study including 306 subjects (102 cases and 204 well-matched controls) in Xiaoshan County to assess any association between genetic polymorphisms in EFNA1 and CRC susceptibility. Searches in the Oncomine expression profiling database revealed EFNA1 to be overexpressed in CRC tissue compared with adjacent normal tissue. The rs12904 G-A variant located in the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of EFNA1 was observed to be associated with CRC susceptibility. Compared with the AA homozygous genotype, those carrying GA genotype had a decreased risk of developing CRC (odds ratio (OR)=0.469, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.225-0.977, and P=0.043). The association was stronger among smokers and tea drinkers, however, no statistical evidence of interaction between rs12904 polymorphism and smoking or tea drinking on CRC risk was found. Our results suggest that EFNA1 is involved in colorectal tumorigenesis, and rs12904 A>G polymorphism in the 3' UTR of EFNA1 is associated with CRC susceptibility. Larger studies and further mechanistic investigations are warranted to confirm our findings.

RNA sequencing reveals that Prx II gene knockout can down-regulate the allograft rejection of dermal mesenchymal stem cells

        Han Ying-Hao,Mao Ying-Ying,Yu Nan-Nan,Jin Mei-Hua,Jin Ying-Hua,Wang Ai-Guo,Zhang Yong-Qing,Shen Gui-Nan,Cui Yu-Dong,Yu Li-Yun,Lee Dong-Seok,Jo Yu-Jin,Sun Hu-Nan,Kwon Jeongwoo,권태호 한국응용생명화학회 2020 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.63 No.3

In this study, we used RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) to analyze and compare bulk cell samples from wild-type (WT) dermal mesenchymal stem cells (DMSCs) (n = 3) and Prx II knockout DMSCs (n = 3). The purpose of the study was to elucidate the role of Prx II on allogeneic immune rejection of transplanted DMSCs. The results revealed differential expression of 472 genes (176 up-regulated and 296 down-regulated; p ≤ 0.05) between the PrxII+/+ (WT) and PrxII−/− sample groups. When highly regulated genes were categorized according to the Gene Ontology (GO) molecular function classification and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis, the PrxII−/− samples showed a robust downward trend in allograft rejection. The study identified 43 all immunologically rejected differentially expressed genes, of which 41 showed lower expression in the PrxII−/− vs. PrxII+/+ (WT) samples. These findings suggest that Prx II gene knockout may down-regulate the allograft rejection that occurs during DMSCs transplantation and improve the survival rate of DMSCs in the host. This study provides a new perspective on the clinical treatment of stem cell transplantation.

Modelling of the Hot Flow Behaviors for Ti-13Nb-13Zr Alloy by BP-ANN Model and Its Application

        Guo-zheng Quan,Shi-ao Pu,Zong-yang Zhan,Zhen-yu Zou,Ying-ying Liu,Yu-feng Xia 한국정밀공학회 2015 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

The plastic deformation mechanisms and the constitutive model of flow behaviors at different deformation conditions in biomedical titanium alloy are an essential step to optimize the design of any forging process for implant productions. A series of isothermal compressions tests on Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy in a wide range of true strain, temperature and strain rate were conducted on a thermomechanical simulator. The hot flow behaviors with different softening mechanisms, including dynamic recrystallization and dynamic recovery, were characterized based on true strain-stress curves. A back-propagational artificial neural network (BP-ANN) method was conducted to evaluate and predict this non-linear problem by self-training to be adaptable to the material characteristics. The flow stress of this material a wide deformation condition range can be predicted accurately by the BP-ANN model obtained in this study. The prediction ability of this BP-ANN Model was evaluated by three accuracy indexes, Absolute error, Relative error and Average absolute relative error. Sequently, the developed BP-ANN model was programed and implanted into the finite element (FE) analysis platform, Msc.Marc software. The results have sufficiently articulated that the well-trained ANN model has excellent capability to deal with the complex flow behaviors and has great application potentiality in hot deformation processes.

Influence of marginal bone resorption on two mini implant-retained mandibular overdenture: An in vitro study

Guo, Ying,Kono, Kentaro,Suzuki, Yasunori,Ohkubo, Chikahiro,Zeng, Jian-Yu,Zhang, Jing The Korean Academy of Prosthodonitics 2021 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.13 No.1

PURPOSE. To investigate the biomechanical effect of marginal bone resorption (MBR) on the mandibular mini implant (MI)-retained overdenture (MI-OD) on the edentulous model. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The experimental mandibular edentulous model was modified from a commercial model with 2 mm thick artificial soft tissue under denture base. Two MIs (Φ2.6 mm × 10 mm) were bilaterally placed between the lateral incisor and the canine area and attached with magnetic attachments. Three groups were set up as follows: 1) alveolar bone around the MI without MBR (normal group), 2) with MBR to 1/2 the length of the implant (resorption group), and 3) complete denture (CD) without MI (CD group). Strain around the MI, pressure near the first molar area, and displacement of denture were simultaneously measured, loading up to 50 N under bilateral/unilateral loading. Statistical analysis was performed using independent-samples t test and one-way ANOVA (α=.05). RESULTS. The strain around the MI with MBR was approximately 1.5 times higher than that without MBR. The pressure in CD was higher than in MI-ODs (P<.05), while there was no statistical difference between the normal and resorption group (P>.05). Similarly, the CD demonstrated a greater displacement of the denture base than did the MI-ODs during bilateral and unilateral loadings (P<.05). CONCLUSION. The strain around the MI with MBR was approximately 1.5 times higher than that without MBR. The pressure on posterior alveolar ridge and denture displacement of MI-ODs significantly decreased compared to CDs, even when MBR occurs. Bilateral balanced occlusion was recommended for MI-ODs, especially when MBR occurred.

Estimating Areal Production of Intertidal Microphytobenthos based on Spatio-Temporal Community Dynamics and Laboratory Measurements

Guo Ying Du,정익교 한국해양과학기술원 2009 Ocean science journal Vol.44 No.4

In situ Microphytobenthic community dynamics were combined with laboratory measurement of predominant species by fluorescence methods to estimate the areal primary production. Field investigation of community dynamics of microphytobenthos (MPB) was conducted from August 2006 to August 2007 in intertidal flats of the Nakdong River estuary, Korea. MPB Biomass varied between 0.47 and 16.58 μg cm−3 in the surface 1 cm sediment, with two dominant diatom species, Amphora coffeaeformis and Navicula sp., occupying average 77.2 ± 14.9% of total number of MPB cells. The biomass was higher in the slightly muddy sand sites than that in the sand site, and showed different pattern of seasonal variation. The profile of vertical distribution of biomass was an exponential decrease trend with depth in sediments. The biomass proportions in the uppermost 3 mm were 57.6% and 37.8% with and without the presence of biofilm, respectively. The two dominant species were cultured in laboratory, and their photosynthetic parameters, rETRmax (relative maximum electron transport rate), α (light utilization coefficient) and Ek (light saturation parameter) were derived from rETR (relative ETR)-irradiance curves by Imaging- PAM (pulse amplitude modulated) fluorometry. The rETR-irradiance curves showed no significant difference of photosynthetic activities between the two species. The areal potential production ranged from 0.74 to 2.22 g C m−2 d−1. Constructions of quantum Bose–Chadhuri–Hocquenghem code using spectral techniques

Guo, Ying,Zeng, Guihua,Ho Lee, Moon,Fan, Jianping Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences 2007 Physica scripta Vol.76 No.2

<P>A quantum Bose–Chadhuri–Hocquenghem (BCH) code is constructed over <I>F</I><I>n</I><I>p</I><I>m</I> in the spectrum domain by employing Fourier transform. The constructed code may be employed to describe the characters of the quantum code over <I>F</I><I>n</I><I>p</I> in the time domain. Each quantum state of the proposed code has certain specified consecutive spectral components equalling zeros, and the error-correcting ability of the code can hence be determined by the number of consecutive zeros in its parity spectrums. Moreover, the decoding process may be performed more efficiently by using the spectrum techniques rather than by using the traditional methods.</P>

Baicalin attenuates TNBS-induced colitis in rats by modulating the Th17/Treg paradigm

        Ying Zou,Shi-Xue Dai,Hong-Gang Chi,Tao Li,Zhi-Wei He,Jian Wang,Cai-Guo Ye,Guo-Liang Huang,Bing Zhao,Wen-Yang Li,Zheng Wan,Jin-Shan Feng,Xue-Bao Zheng 대한약학회 2015 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.38 No.10

Baicalin, a flavonoid, has a wide range ofpharmacological properties, including immunomodulation. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect ofbaicalin on the balance of T helper 17 (Th17) and regulatoryT (Treg) cells in a colitis model. The rat colitis modelwas induced by 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid(TNBS). Baicalin (10 ml/kg, each) or mesalazine (positivecontrol) was then administered orally for 7 days. Inflammatoryand immunological responses were evaluated bypathology, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, real-timepolymerase chain reaction, western blot analysis, and flowcytometry. Our study showed that baicalin not only significantlyattenuated TNBS-induced colitis by reducing thedisease activity index as well as macroscopic and microscopicscores, but it also improved the weight loss andshortening of the colon. Baicalin treatment also induced asignificant decrease in the levels of inflammatory mediators, including the myeloperoxidase activity, the levels oftumor necrosis factor a, IL-1b, and Th1-related cytokinesIL-12 and IFN-c. Furthermore, the beneficial effects ofbaicalin seem to be associated with regulation of the Th17and Treg paradigm. We found that administration ofbaicalin significantly downregulated the number of Th17cells and the levels of Th17-related cytokines (IL-17 andIL-6) and retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor ct. In contrast, there was an increase in Treg cells numbers,Treg-related cytokines transforming growth factor-b andIL-10, and forkhead box P3. Our results suggest that theanti-inflammatory effect of baicalin may be linked tomodulation of the balance between Th17 and Treg cells inTNBS-induced ulcerative colitis.

Characterization of the Open Reading Frame 35 of Bombyx mori Nucleopolyhedrovirus

Ying Min Zhu,Guo Hui Li,Qin Yao,Ke Ping Chen,Zhong Jian Guo 한국잠사학회 2010 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.21 No.2

Open reading frame 35 (bm35) of the Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) is a special gene whose homologues are only found in some group-I nucleopolyhedroviruses, suggesting that bm35 plays a specific role in the viral life cycle. This paper described the characterization of BmNPV bm35. Computerassisted sequence analysis shows that a putative RING finger motif is observed in the protein, Bm35 encoded by bm35. The coding sequence of bm35 was amplified and subcloned into the vector pET30a(+) and the (His)6-tagged fusion protein His-Bm35 was expressed in the Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) LysS cells. The bm35 transcript and Bm35 protein were detected in BmNPV-infected BmN cells at 12~48 h post infection (p.i.) by RT-PCR and Western blot analysis using the polyclonal antibody generated by immunizing a rabbit with purified (His)6-tagged Bm35, suggesting that bm35 is synthesized in the late stage of BmNPV infection cycle. Bm35 was not a structural component associated with budded virus (BV) and occlusion derived virus (ODV). These data indicated that bm35 is a functional gene in the BmNPV life cycle.

      • A transmit diversity scheme for quantum communications

Guo, Ying,Chen, Zhigang,Song, Wei,Lee, Moon Ho Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences 2008 Physica scripta Vol.78 No.6

<P>This paper proposes a quantum two-branch transmit diversity scheme based on quantum maximal-ratio receiver combining (QMRRC) with one sender and two receivers. Exploiting two senders and one receiver, this scheme provides the same diversity order as that of one sender and two receivers. It can be generalized for two senders and <I>M</I> receivers to distribute quantum information with diversity order 2<I>M</I> for <I>M</I>⩾2. It has the advantage that it does not require any bandwidth expansion and feedback from the receiver to the sender, and its computation complexity is similar to QMRRC. As a consequence, it may transmit quantum information with more efficiency than the previous quantum key distribution (QKD) schemes.</P>
