The NADPH oxidase 4 (Nox4) is required for myoblast fusion and skeletal muscle regeneration in mice

Myoblast fusion is important for skeletal muscle development and function. The NADPH oxidase 4 (Nox4) is major source of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that regulates many cellular signals including differentiation, proliferation and, survival. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether Nox4 is essential for myoblast fusion during differentiation and muscle regeneration. We isolated primary myoblasts from TA muscles of wild type (WT) and Nox4-knockout (Nox4-KO) mice and incubated them in differentiation medium (DM). Myotube size and diameter of Nox4-KO was significantly reduced compared with that of WT. But there was no difference in differentiation index and expression levels of differentiation marker proteins including myoD, myogenin and MyHC. Interestingly, fusion index was significantly reduced. The effects of Nox4 expression level on myoblast fusion was investigated using Nox4 siRNA (siNox4) and Nox4 adenovirus in C2C12 myoblast. Fusion index was reduced by Nox4 knockdown expression while it was increased by Nox4-overexpression. To evaluate the effects of Nox4 during regeneration TA muscle of WT and Nox4-KO mice was given CTX injection to induce muscle injury. Cross section area of Nox4-KO mice muscle was significantly reduced compared with that of WT mice 7 and 14 days after CTX injection. Cellular ROS produced was suppressed by NAC, siNox4, and GKT137831, while it was increased by Nox4 overexpression. The expression level of fusion protein myomaker was proportional to that of Nox4 and ROS generated by Nox4. These results demonstrate that Nox4 contributes to myoblast fusion through regulating myomaker expression using Nox4-produced ROS.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of exercise-induced fatigue and blocked vision on postural control during upright stance in elderly women. The study population included 22 women who were aged over 65 years, had no sustained orthopedic damage within the last 6 months, and had been randomly recruited. The results were analyzed with respect to the mediolateral and anteroposterior factors for the center of pressure. The exercise-induced fatigue and the absence of visual information increased the anteroposterior and mediolateral velocity for center of pressure. This means that the elderly women could control their posture through many sways. In conclusion, the exercise-induced fatigue and the blocked vision decreased ability of the postural control in elderly women. Further research on the change of postural control in relation to the types of exercise-induced fatigue and the levels of muscular fatigue is expected.
월악산에서의 물까치 Cyanopica cyana의 번식생태 및 개체군 변동에 관한 연구

본 연구는 2005년 3월부터 2009년 10월까지 월악산(충북 제천시 한수면 덕주골 계곡)에 분포하는 물까치의 둥지 장소 선택, 개체수 변동, 성장률, 먹이 종류 등 번식생태 및 개체군 변동에 영향을 주는 방해 요인을 조사하여 분석하였다. 관찰된 개체수는 2005년 104개체, 2006년 63개체, 2007년 107개체, 2008년 142개체, 2009년 205개체로 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 영소목은 특정수종을 선호하지 않고, 서식하는 지역의 식생을 이용하였다. 영소목의 수고는 12.79±1.98m이었고 참나무류를 주로 이용하였으며, 영소목에서의 둥지의 높이는 3.91±0.56m이었다. 둥지와 계곡과의 거리는 20.90±12.17m였고, 과수원과의 거리는 41.83±11.74m이었다. 둥지 재료는 상수리나무, 갈참나무 등 주변의 작은 나뭇가지를 이용하였다. 번식시기는 4월 중순∼6월 초순경이며 한배산란수는 6.9±1.06개, 포란기간은 17.90±1.30일, 그리고 비동시 부화일수는 1.86±0.78일로 나타났다. 먹이는 양서류 및 파충류 그리고 곤충 등 동물성과 연한 식물 및 견과류 등을 먹는 잡식성으로 나타났다. 번식 실패의 주요인은 날씨와 먹이로 나타났다. 부화성공률은 90.82%, 이소성공률은 88.30%, 번식성공률 80.19%로 다른 까마귀과 조류에 비해 높았다. 물까치는 잡식성이며, 무리생활을 하여 포식자에 대한 위협에 대처하고 있으며, 최근 천적 및 경쟁종이 감소하고 있어 연구대상 지역 일대에서 개체수가 늘어나고 있는 것으로 판단된다. We have researched population change, preference of nest tree and breeding ecology-growth rates, food materials, factors of disturbance-of Azure-winged Magpie’s Cyanopica cyana at Deok-ju valley, Worak Mountain, Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea from March, 2005 to October, 2009. There were mountain streams, grasses, bushes and fruit trees which supply food to Azure-winged magpie. With these good environments, the number of Azure-winged magpie gradually increased 104 individuals in 2005, 63 individuals in 2006, 107 individuals in 2007, 142 individuals in 2008 and 205 individuals in 2009. Azure-winged magpie made their nest in the Oak Community. This result suggested that Azure-winged magpie don't use specific trees. The height of nest tree was 12.79±1.98m. And the nest was positioned 3.91±0.56m from ground. The distance from nest to mountain stream was 20.90±12.17m and nest to orchard was 41.83±11.74m. The clutch size of Azure-winged magpie was 6.9±1.06. They lays its eggs during April to early of June and incubated for 17.90±1.30 days. The food materials was animals which includes insects, larva, amphibians, reptiles and plant materials like fruits and berries, etc. The hatching rate of Azure-winged magpie was 90.82%, fledgling rate was 88.30% and the rate of breeding success was 80.19%. The population of Azure-winged magpies are increasing because of the number of enemies are decreasing. And they defend enemy with another members of the community.

In the recent years, with a purpose to provide visual and psychological stability to patients and hospital users, Affordance design theory based on perceptual psychological thought has been applied as hospital design. In the past, hospital service design was focused on 〈what kind of service is provided〉 but Affordance design theory focuses on the patients’ experience and methodological research on 〈how to deliver the service correctly〉. The characteristics of the application of Affordance design in the case of patients’ experience and service point is as follows:- Firstly, Affordance design is applied when the objective of the patient’s experience and the functionality of the object are combined. In other words, affordance design is a condition that arises when encounter between service contact point and patients’ experience takes place. Secondly, In the field of Hospital service design, Affordance concepts in and its application can be divided on the functions of experience, cognition and sense following the application of Affordance concepts in Hospital service design. Thirdly, Affordance design method sets meaning of the action received through information provided by morphological features. The condition and surrounding has to be designed in a way that it can induce active behavior of the patient. This study has significance as it has been studied from the perspectives of Affordance theory of design psychology in addition to the physical environment of the hospital, the point of interaction between the hospital and patient, along with the elements of experience design. This study proposes the necessity of analytical study in the field of service design implementation considering various stakeholders in the service contact points of small and medium hospitals in Korea. Furthermore, study of the application of Affordance design can be complemented by reflecting the size of hospitals, the characteristics of specialties, and the specific service environment of each hospital can also be conducted.

Ectopic adrenal tissue is observed in about 50% of neonates, but observed in about 1% of adults as it atrophies and disappears over time. In most cases, ectopic adrenal tissue is found in organs below the diaphragm such as liver, pancreas, kidney, transverse colon and male and female genital tract. However, ectopic adrenal tissue found in the uterine adnexa is a very rare case through the world. Ectopic adrenal tissue was incidentally found in the right uterine adnexa after total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingooophorectomy, so we report this case with a brief review of literatures.

The Reaction of S-methyl-S-cysteine(L-Smc) with racemic $s-cis-[Co(demba)Cl_2]-1$ (Hydmedba = $NN'-dimethylethylenediamine-NN'-di-\alpha-butyric$, acid) yields ${\Delta}$-s-cis-[Co(dmedba)(L-Smc)] 2 with N, O-chelation. Oxidation of sulfur of 2 with $H_2O_2$ in a 1 : 1 mole ratio gives ${\Delta}$-s-cis[Co(dmedba)(L-S(O)mc)] 3 having an uncoordinated sulfenate group. Oxidation of sulfur of L-Sm with $H_2O_2in$ a 1: 1 mole ratio produces S-methyl-L-cysteinesulfenate (L-S(O)me) 5. Direct reaction of 1 with 5 in basic medium gives an N.O-chelated ${\Delta}$s-cis[Co(dmedba)(L-S(O)mc)-N.O], which turmed out be same as obtained by oxidation of 2, while an N, S-chelated ${\Delta}$-s-cis-[Co(dmedba)(S-S(O)mc)-N,O] complex 4 is obtained in acidic medium from the reaction of 1 with 5. This is one of the rare $[$Co^{III}$(N_2O_2-type$ ligand)(amino acid)] type complex preparations, where the reaction conditions determine which mode of N, O and N, S caelation modes is favored.

Objectives: This study investigated quality among three herb medicine extract granules(DSGOST) which were made from different companies to check quality control of herb medicine extract granules. Methods: we selected three DSGOST extract granules which were made from different companies. And we experimented extract granules by method from K.P(Korean Pharmacopoeia), K.H.P(Korean Herbal Pharmacopoeia) of KFDA. Results: In qualitative analysis of DSGOST, we indentified Akebiae Caulis (木通), Asari Herba Cum Radix (細辛), Evodiae Fructus (吳茱萸) in three different DSGOST extract granules. In quantitative analysis of DSGOST, Medication A,B,C contained similar content of Paeoniflorin & Glycyrrhizic acid. However Medication B contains especially lowest value of Cinnamic acid & total Decursin. Conclusions: Herb medicine extract granules have different contents of ingredients although those were made by same prescription. And these differences may influence medicinal effect to patients. So we need to make system of quality control with various research of quantitative & qualitative analysis about herb medicine extract granules.
