Phosphonated Polymers with Fine-Tuned Ion Clustering Behavior: Toward Efficient Proton Conductors

<P>We report the controlled synthesis, self-assembly, and ion transport properties of polystyrene bisphosphonate (PSbP) and polystyrene phosphonate (PSP) based polymers, revealing that ion clustering in PSbP (characterized by precisely determined phosphonate group location) was markedly suppressed compared to that in PSP despite the 2-fold higher phosphonic acid group concentration in the former. Moreover, confinement of PSbP chains to ordered nanoscale domains in PSbP-based block copolymers offered a platform for creating nearly homogeneous ionic phases with a radically decreased potential barrier to ion conduction. Notably, the decrease in the degree of polymerization of PSbP chain in the block copolymers by half (i.e., the lower acid group contents) led to 2-3 times improved anhydrous conductivity with incorporated ionic liquids, contrary to the results commonly reported for a range of acid-tethered polymers. Our work provides a first-time demonstration of well-defined self-assembled morphologies of bisphosphonate block copolymers, opening a new chapter in the development of highly conductive phosphonated polymers and thus being of importance to the field of polymer electrolytes.</P>

클라우드 컴퓨팅은 최근 IT 시장에서 가장 큰 성장을 보이고 있는 분야 중 하나로, 앞으로도 지속적으로 성장할 것으로 기대되고 있다. 특히, 최근에는 수많은 기업들이 비용 절감 및 효율 향상을 위해 사설 클라우드 컴퓨팅 서비스로 가상 데스크톱 환경을 도입하고 있다. 하지만 현재 이 분야에 대한 디지털 포렌식 조사 절차 및 방법은 학문적, 기술적으로 체계화되어 있지 않다. 이를 위해서는 클라우드 컴퓨팅 서비스 형태에 따라 법적 효력을 가질 수 있는 디지털 증거 수집 체계를 확립해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 사설 클라우드 서비스로 제공되는 가상 데스크톱 환경 및 전 세계적으로 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 데스크톱 가상화 솔루션(Citrix, VMware, Microsoft)에 대해 소개하고, 각 솔루션에 대한 디지털 포렌식 조사 절차 및 방법을 제안한다. Recently, cloud computing is one of the parts showing the biggest growth in the IT market and is expected to continue to grow into. Especially, many companies are adopting virtual desktop infrastructure as private cloud computing to achieve in saving the cost and enhancing the efficiency of the servers. However, current digital forensic investigation methodology of cloud computing is not systematized scientifically and technically. To do this, depending on the type of each cloud computing services, digital evidence collection system for the legal enforcement should be established. In this paper, we focus on virtual desktop infrastructure as private cloud computing and introduce the most widely used around the world desktop virtualization solutions of VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft. And We propose digital forensic investigation methodology for private cloud computing that is constructed by these solutions.

Objective: This study was performed to investigate the alveolar bone of lower incisors in skeletal Class III adults of different vertical facial patterns and to compare it with that of Class I adults using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Methods: CBCT images of 90 skeletal Class III and 29 Class I patients were evaluated. Class III subjects were divided by mandibular plane angle: high (SN-MP 〉 38.0°), normal (30.0° 〈 SN-MP 〈 37.0°), and low (SN- MP 〈 28.0°) groups. Buccolingual alveolar bone thickness was measured using CBCT images of mandibular incisors at alveolar crest and 3, 6, and 9 mm apical levels. Linear mixed model, Bonferroni post-hoc test, and Pearson correlation analysis were used for statistical significance. Results: Buccolingual alveolar bone in Class III high, normal and low angle subjects was not significantly different at alveolar crest and 3 mm apical level while lingual bone was thicker at 6 and 9 mm apical levels than on buccal side. Class III high angle group had thinner alveolar bone at all levels except at buccal alveolar crest and 9 mm apical level on lingual side compared to the Class I group. Class III high angle group showed thinner alveolar bone than the Class III normal or low angle groups in most regions. Mandibular plane angle showed negative correlations with mandibular anterior alveolar bone thickness. Conclusions: Skeletal Class III subjects with high mandibular plane angles showed thinner mandibular alveolar bone in most areas compared to normal or low angle subjects. Mandibular plane angle was negatively correlated with buccolingual alveolar bone thickness.

Purpose: Although more people from Middle Eastern countries are visiting South Korea for medical treatment, Korean nurses lack experience in treating them. Understanding and describing Korean nurses’ experiences can help them provide quality care to these patients by enhancing their competency in culturally appropriate care. This study described the experiences of nurses who provide care to Middle Eastern patients in clinical settings in South Korea. Methods: We conducted a phenomenological study to describe nurses’ experience of caring for patients from Middle Eastern countries. Ten nurses with prior experience in caring for these patients were recruited from a university-affiliated tertiary hospital. Semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted between May 1 and June 4, 2020. The transcribed data were analyzed using Giorgi’s phenomenological method to identify the primary and minor categories representing nurses’ experiences. Results: Four major categories (new experiences in caring for culturally diverse patients, challenges in caring for patients in a culturally appropriate manner, nursing journey of mutual agreement with culturally diverse patients, and being and becoming more culturally competent) and 11 subcategories were identified. Conclusion: Nurses experience various challenges when caring for Middle Eastern patients with diverse language and cultural needs. However, nurses strive to provide high-quality care using various approaches and experience positive emotions through this process. To provide quality care to these patients, hospital environments and educational programs must be developed that center on field nurses and students and support them in delivering quality care while utilizing their cultural capabilities.
