The so-called adjustment of the investigative powers of the prosecution and the police brought major changes to the roles and functions of the prosecution and police. The key to this adjustment is that the police are given primary investigative power and can conduct investigations independently. Even if there is no suspicion of a crime, the police can close the investigation on their own. On the other hand, the prosecution can directly investigate only six major crimes. Moreover, it is only possible to control the police investigation results later. In addition, the police organization was divided into the national police and local police. The purpose of this study is to examine how the adjustment of investigative powers affects the juvenile justice procedure. To this end, I will first examine and review the current laws and regulations related to the juvenile justice procedure. Next, we will examine what measures can be taken to improve the juvenile case.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background and purpose</B></P> <P>To evaluate the safety and efficacy of preoperative chemotherapy (CTx) followed by chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for high-risk gastric cancer (GC).</P> <P><B>Methods and materials</B></P> <P>The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) Borrmann type 4; (2) large Borrmann type 3 (≥8 cm); (3) single bulky (≥3 cm × 1) or multiple lymph nodes (≥1.5 cm × 3). Patients received two 21-day courses of induction CTx of TS-1 (35 mg/m<SUP>2</SUP>, p.o, twice daily on days 1–14), docetaxel (30 mg/m<SUP>2</SUP>, i.v., days 1 and 8), and cisplatin (30 mg/m<SUP>2</SUP>, i.v., days 1 and 8) followed by CCRT (two courses of TS-1 and cisplatin in combination with 45 Gy radiation).</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>Forty-two patients were enrolled between March 2014 and February 2016, and 39 of these completed sequential CTx and CCRT. Among the 33 patients who underwent R0 resection, the pathologic response rate was 39.4% [no residual carcinoma (<I>n</I> = 5, 15.2%), with 1–10% residual carcinoma (<I>n</I> = 8, 24.2%)]. Overall, 4 patients (12.1%) were pathologic stage 0, 7 (21.2%) were stage I, 10 (30.3%) were stage II, and 12 (36.4%) were stage III. The overall survival rate at 3 years was 77.9% for stages 0 and I, 66.8% for stages II–III, and 33.3% for unresectable cases (<I>P</I> = 0.001). Toxicity was mild to moderate with grade 4 neutropenia (<I>n</I> = 1) and neutropenic fever (<I>n</I> = 1) as the most prominent side-effects.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>Sequential CTx and CCRT prior to surgery are feasible and effective for high-risk GC.</P> <P>Trial registration number: NCT02495493.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A complex preoperative staging was adopted for high-risk GC. </LI> <LI> We adopted an intensive, weekly-split, triplet regimen with favorable toxicities. </LI> <LI> Induction chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy indicate a promising outcome. </LI> </UL> </P>

Clear cell odontogenic carcinoma mimicking a cystic lesion: a case of misdiagnosis

Clear cell odontogenic carcinoma (CCOC) is a rare jaw tumor that was classified as a malignant tumor of odontogenic origin in 2005 by the World Health Organization because of its aggressive and destructive growth capacity and metastasis to the lungs and lymph nodes. We report a case of a 66-year-old female who had swelling, incision and drainage history and a well-defined unicystic radiolucent lesion that was comparable to a cystic lesion. At first, the patient received decompression, and the lesion size decreased. Three months after decompression, cyst enucleation was performed. The pathologic result indicated that the lesion was CCOC. In this report we emphasize that patients with painful cystic lesions in addition to jaw enlargement and loosening teeth should be considered for the possibility of malignancy.

Hot pepper (Capsicum annuum), one of the oldest domesticated crops in the Americas, is the most widely grown spice crop in the world. We report whole-genome sequencing and assembly of the hot pepper (Mexican landrace of Capsicum annuum cv. CM334) at 186.6× coverage. We also report resequencing of two cultivated peppers and de novo sequencing of the wild species Capsicum chinense. The genome size of the hot pepper was approximately fourfold larger than that of its close relative tomato, and the genome showed an accumulation of Gypsy and Caulimoviridae family elements. Integrative genomic and transcriptomic analyses suggested that change in gene expression and neofunctionalization of capsaicin synthase have shaped capsaicinoid biosynthesis. We found differential molecular patterns of ripening regulators and ethylene synthesis in hot pepper and tomato. The reference genome will serve as a platform for improving the nutritional and medicinal values of Capsicum species.
Fabrication of Various Conducting Polymers Using Graphene Oxide as a Chemical Oxidant

<P>Recently, using graphene oxide (GO) for “carbocatalysis” has been very attractive as a novel application of graphene-based nanomaterials and is expected to open a host of possibilities for chemical synthesis because of the abundance of natural carbon sources, as well as the low density, extensive chemical functionalization, hydrophilicity, low cost, and ease of preparation. Here, we demonstrate that the GO can play a role as a chemical oxidant for various CPs (polythiophene, polyaniline, and polypyrrole), and diverse graphene–CP composites (graphene–polythiophene, graphene–polyaniline, and graphene–polypyrrole) can simply and rapidly be synthesized by using the GO as both graphene precursor and chemical oxidant. The UV–vis analysis confirms that the GO has successfully polymerized the CPs and been transformed to reduced graphene oxide (RGO). The SEM and TEM analyses show that the CPs have successfully been coated on the few-layered graphene sheets. Raman analysis and series of FT-IR analyses have been conducted to survey what functional group in the GO polymerized the monomers, and they reveal that hydroxyl and epoxy groups in the GO polymerized the monomers.
