        The Immediate Effects of Ankle Restriction Using an Elastic Band on Ground Reaction Force during a Golf Swing

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the immediate effects of ankle restriction with an elasticband on ground reaction force during a golf swing.Method: There were five subjects who were teaching pros with an average golf score of 75. A force platform(9281B, Switzerland) was used. The independent variable was the presence of an elastic band. The dependentvariables were three-dimensional ground reaction forces to analyze the transfer of momentum with thetiming, control and coordination of the three forces. A paired t-test within subject repeated measure designwas used via an SPSS 20.0.Results: Wearing an elastic band around one``s ankles significantly makes shorter time differences betweenthe moment of cross anterior / posterior forces and vertical force and median value of anterior / posteriorforces during the backswing, between medial and lateral maximum and anterior / posterior force from thetop of the back swing to the mid down swing, and creates an anterior / posterior maximum force.Conclusion: Wearing an elastic band around one’s ankles affects control and coordination between threedimensional forces, and anterior force power according to each phase of the golf swing.

        ORIGINAL : The Immediate Effects of External Kinesio-tape Wrapping for Inner Arch Support on the Lower Leg EMG for Gait in Stiletto Heels

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of using external kinesiotape wrapping for inner arch support on the lower extremity EMG for gait in stiletto heels. Methods: Subjects for this study were two female college students who had been wearing stiletto heels almost every day of the week for more than three years. The independent variable was the presence or absence of kinesio-tape wrap for inner arch support. Dependent variables were EMG readings for the four muscle groups: the medial and lateral gastrocnemius, the tibialis anterior, and the peroneus longus. EMG readings were taken using the NORAXON (USA). The Paired t-test within the subject repeated measure design for the presence and absence of inner arch support (p<0.05) was used via SPSS 18.0. Results: With kinesio-tape wrap for inner arch support, there was a statistically significant decrease in the muscle force mean values for the peroneus longus and the medial and lateral gastrocnemius, in the maximum muscle forces of the peroneus longus and the lateral gastrocnemius. Conclusion: External kinesio-tape wrapping for inner arch support in stiletto heels could have an effect to reduce peroneus longus, and medial/lateral gastrocnemius activities that could result in decreased fatigue and discomfort.

        The Effects of the Foot Types and Structures of the Inner Arch Support Bands on Ground Reaction Force Variables and Sensations during 2<sup>nd</sup> Vertical Ballet Jump

        Objective: The purpose of this research was to establish the differences of ground reaction force variables and sensations according to the foot types and the structures of the inner arch support band during $2^{nd}$ vertical ballet jump. Method: 12 Female ballet majors in their twenties who have danced for more than 10 years and had no injuries were selected for this research. Independent variables consist of the foot type (pes rectus, pes planus) and the structure of the inner arch support band (no band, x-shaped, linear shaped). Dependent variables consist of ground reaction force variables and relative wearing sensation. Results: The impact decreased the most when x-shaped bands were used on pes rectus and rigid pes planus. When linear-shaped bands were used on flexible pes planus, the impact decreased. Conclusion: The bands also helped reduce the impact on pes rectus. Furthermore, it is clear that according to the foot type, the impact reducing band structures perform differently. The inner arch support bands were necessary for jump training for any foot type.

        신발 분야 국내외 운동역학 연구동향 분석: 2015-2019년에 발간된 연구를 중심으로

        Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify recent domestic and international research trends regarding shoes carried out in biomechanics field and to suggest the direction of shoe research later. Method: To achieve this goal of research, the Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Korea Education and Research Information Service and Korean Citation Index were searched to identify trends in 64 domestic and international research. Also, classified into the interaction of the human body, usability evaluation of functional shoes, smart shoe development research, and suggested the following are the suggestions for future research directions. Conclusion: A study for the coordination of muscle activity, control of motion and prevention of injury should be sought by developing shoes of eco-friendly materials, and scientific evidence such as physical aspects, materials, floor shapes and friction should be supported. Second, a study on elite athletes in various sports is needed based on functional shoes using new materials to improve their performance along with cooperation in muscle activities and prevention of injury. Third, various information and energy production are possible in real time through human behavioral information, and the application of Human Machine Interface (HMI) technology through shoe-sensor-human interaction should be explored.

        Comparison of Nutrient Intake in Lao PDR by the Korean CAN-Pro and Thailand INMUCAL Analysis Programs

        A computer-based nutritional analysis program can help to identify the nutritional status of people and provide information for nutritional counseling, nutrition education, diet planning, and menu development. Although computer-based nutritional analysis has been conducted since the 1960s in developed countries, in developing countries nutritional analysis programs either do not exist or need improving. This study tests two analysis programs developed by different countries to compare the nutrition status data calculated by two different analysts to highlight the importance of developing an appropriate nutrition analysis tool. An interview-administered 24-h dietary recall method was conducted with 100 adults aged 40∼59 years in Vientiane, Laos. Analysts from Korea and Laos, respectively, calculated nutrient intake using the Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University CALculation (INMUCAL) nutritional analysis program (Bangkok, Thailand). Nutrient intake was also compared using two different analysis tools, INMUCAL and computer aided nutritional analysis program (CAN-Pro) 5.0 software (Seoul, Korea). The average nutrient intake calculated by the different analysts using INMUCAL were not significantly different. Furthermore, macronutrient intake calculated by CAN-Pro 5.0 and INMUCAL did not significantly differ, aside for intake of iron, thiamin, and vitamin C. Nutrient intake calculated by one analysis program differed from those calculated by a different program in Laos. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an appropriate nutritional analysis program that reflects the diet behavior and food culture in Laos and to understand the nutritional status of Laotians.

        Effect of Taping Therapy and Inner Arch Support on Plantar Lower Body Alignment and Gait

        Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of taping therapy and inner arch support on pes planus lower extremity alignment and gait. Method: The study was conducted on 13 women in their 20s who had pes planus and no gait problems. Independent variables were the condition of wearing basic socks (S1) and the condition of wearing socks with taping therapy and inner arch support (S2). The dependent variables were resting calcaneal stance position (RCSP), plantar pressure distribution during gait, and underlying and medial longitudinal arch angle measured using radiography. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test with SPSS 23.0 for comparison of S1 and S2. Results: In the RCSP measurement, the angle range of S2 changed to normal. Meary's angle appeared to be less than the angle of S1, indicating alleviation of the degree of pes planus. The calcaneal pitch angle increased at S2 from that at S1. The plantar pressure distribution was divided into four areas (toe, forefoot, midfoot, and hindfoot). At S2, the maximum pressure increased in the toe and midfoot. The maximum force increased significantly in the toe and midfoot but decreased significantly in the forefoot and hindfoot. In addition, the contact area increased overall especially at the midfoot and hindfoot. Contact time decreased in the toe and forefoot, but increased in the midfoot and hindfoot. Conclusion: Taping therapy and inner arch support showed structural improvement of the pes planus. In addition, the force and pressure applied to the foot during walking are distributed evenly in the area of the sole, thus positively affecting walking.
