        The Frequency of Occult Intertrochanteric Fractures among Individuals with Isolated Greater Trochanteric Fractures

        Purpose: Isolated greater trochanteric (GT) fractures are often identified using plain radiography of patients with post-traumatic hip pain. In many cases, the fracture extends to form an occult intertrochanteric fracture. We conducted a study to determine the frequency of occult intertrochanteric fractures in patients diagnosed with isolated GT fractures using plain radiographs. Materials and Methods: Among 3,017 individuals who visited our emergency department with a trauma-induced pertrochanteric femur fracture between July 2004 and March 2018, 100 patients diagnosed with isolated GT fractures using plain radiographs were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into two groups, those with: i) isolated GT fractures (group A) and ii) occult intertrochanteric fractures (group B). In addition, plain radiographs, magnetic resonance imaging results, and treatment methods were further analyzed in each group. If surgery treatment was needed, it was performed by one surgeon, and in all cases, a 2-hole dynamic hip screw was used. Results: Among the 100 cases of isolated GT fractures diagnosed using plain radiograph, additional examinations revealed that 10 (10.0%) were suffering from isolated GT fractures alone, while the remaining 90 (90.0%) were further diagnosed with occult intertrochanteric fracture. Gender, age, mechanism of injury, and bone mineral density did not correlate with fracture type. Conclusion: In our analysis, 90% of injuries initially diagnosed as isolated GT fractures were found to extend into occult intertrochanteric fractures upon further examination with additional imaging modalities. Therefore, additional evaluation should be performed to test for the potential presence of occult intertrochanteric fractures and to establish appropriate treatment plans.

        The combination of sports and the IT industry has reached a variety of fields, especially in the area of broadcasting technology.       • Functionalized, Fluorescent, Conjugated Polymer Nanospheres for Protein Targeting via Förster Resonance Energy Transfer.

        <P>We report the preparation of fluorescent nanospheres based on conjugated polymers, which enables a facile fluorescence color tuning. The fluorescent nanospheres have aldehyde groups on the surface that enable the introduction of a protein ligand, biotin. The intrinsic fluorescence of the nanospheres allows detection of a dye-labeled target protein, streptavidin, via Forster resonance energy transfer. The controlled biofunctionalization of conjugated polymer-based fluorescent nanospheres represents a novel approach with high applicability to sensing of biological molecules.</P>

      • PERCEIVED IMAGES OF EACH TYPES OF E-SPORTS: CONCEPT PRESENTATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF A MEASUREMENT SCALE

        The purpose of the current study was to deduct the factors for e-sports and to develop measurement scale of each images of those factors so as to establish the concept of esports. In order to achieve the aforementioned purpose, the study was conducted through three steps: (1) deduction of the elementary/principal factors which were based on the literature investigation and in-depth interview of experts and general public, (2) conducting first survey and exploratory factor analysis, and (3) conducting secondary survey followed by confirmatory factor analysis. In the first step, in order to develop and identify measurement scales, images concerning e-sports, game and sports perceived by consumers and related items used in the extant literature were investigated. Additionally, in order to verify the face and content validity of deducted items, in-depth interview of experts, professional gamers, professors of Sports Science, doctoral students, people in charge, general public and etc was conducted. And in the second step, the survey with those confirmed items scales were conducted and with the results derived from the survey, the exploratory factor analysis for measuring images consisting e-sports were also conducted. Finally, in the third step, secondary survey based on the results derived from the exploratory factor analysis were conducted and in order to test uni-dimensionality of the measurement tool with the results emanated from the secondary survey, confirmatory factor analysis were conducted. Through aforementioned three steps, the current study confirmed the image factors consisting e-sports which are comprised of six positive factors (i.e., sociality, entertainingness, aestheticness, leisureness, education, and stress relief) and five negative factors (i.e., addictiveness, violence, commercial viability/marketability, and closedness).

      • Simple Technique for Spatially Separated Nanofibers/Nanobeads by Multinozzle Electrospinning toward White-Light Emission

        <P>Electrospun, emission color-tunable nanofibrous sheets were fabricated by multinozzle electrospinning equipped with a secondary electrode for the preparation of white-emissive sheets under a single excitation source, manipulating energy transfer between dyes. By control of the concentration of commercially available red, green, and blue dyes in the matrix polymer [poly(methyl methacrylate)], emission color tuning can be easily accomplished because each dye is located in spatially separated fibers to maintain enough distance to prevent or suppress energy transfer, allowing white-light emission.         입원한 여성의 급성 정신증과 월경관련 증후군

        Objects : The authors have clinically observed that many reproductive female patients whose psychiatric admissions or onset/recurrence of the psychiatric symptoms were related to their menstrual cycle. And in a few cases, their significant symptoms were not properly to be diagnosed with DSM-Ⅲ-R system only, particularly in acute psychotic patients. So this study was designed to examine the possibility that such atypical symptoms would be considered as a specific syndrome or disorder related to menstrual cycle, menstruation-related syndrome. Methods : 1) The authors re-diagnosed 112 reproductive female patients with acute psychosis hospitalized in a psychiatric ward of Wonju Christian Hospital during two years period(1991.1.1-1992.12.31) according to DSM-Ⅲ-R criteria, and identified their with the Sibergeld's classification to determine in what phase they were admitted to. 2) A group of patients with atypical symptoms, in which the diagnoses were not agreed by more than two authors, was selected, and the symptoms were listed and scored on the severity(1-moderate, 2-severe). 3) The symptom list of an atypical patient group was compred to the Premenstrual Assessment From(PAF) and Menstrual Distress Questionnaire(MDQ) to illuminate its relation to the menstrual cycle. Results : 1) Most of the reporductive female patients with acute psychosis were admitted in premenstrual(38.9%), ovulation(27.8%), or menstrual phases(18.1%), respectively. 2) Eleven patients showed regressed behavior, perplexity, confusion, hostility, negativistic behavior, poor impulse control, psychomotor agitation, and emotional lability. 3) All of the atypical patient group was in premenstrual(72.4%) or ovulation phase(27.3%) on admission. Conclusion : If acute psychotic state was full-blown on the premenstrual or ovulation phase and the main symptomatology met the above 8 characteristic symptoms, those patients would be considered as a menstruation-related syndrome.

        천리안위성 1·2A호 지표면 알베도 상호 오차 분석 및 비교검증

        장기간에 걸친 전 지구적인 위성관측 지표면 알베도 자료는 전 지구 기후 및 환경의 변화 감시에 활발히 이용되고 있으며 그 활용도와 중요성이 크다. 우리나라의 경우 정지궤도위성 천리안위성 1호(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite, COMS) MI(Meteorological Imager) 센서와 천리안위성 2A호(GEO-KOMPSAT-2A, GK-2A) AMI (Advanced Meteorological Imager) 센서의 세대교체를 통해 지속적인 지표면 알베도 산출물의 확보가 가능하다. 그러나 COMS/MI 및 GK-2A/AMI의 지표면 알베도 산출물은 센서 및 알고리즘의 차이로 인해 산출물 간의 차이가 존재한다. 따라서 COMS/MI와 GK-2A/AMI 지표면 알베도 산출 기간을 확장하고 지속적인 기후변화 감시 연계성 확보를 위해 두 위성 산출물 간의 오차 분석이 선행되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 COMS/MI 및 GK-2A/AMI 지표면 알베도 자료의 중복기간을 대상으로 지상관측자료 AERONET (Aerosol Robotic Network)와 타 위성자료 GLASS (Global Land Surface Satellite)와 함께 비교 분석하였다. 오차 분석 결과 AERONET과의 검증에서 COMS/MI의 평균 제곱근 오차(Root Mean Square Error, RMSE)가 0.043로 GK-2A/AMI의 RMSE인 0.015보다 높게 나타났다. 또한GLASS와 비교하였을 때 COMS/MI의 RMSE는 0.029로GK-2A/AMI의 0.038보다 낮게 나타났다. 이러한 오차특성을 이해하고 COMS/MI 및 GK-2A/AMI의 지표면 알베도 자료를 사용할 때 장기간 기후변화 감시에 적극적으로 활용할 수 있을 것이다. Global satellite observation surface albedo data over a long period of time are actively used to monitor changes in the global climate and environment, and their utilization and importance are great. Through the generational shift of geostationary satellites COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite)/MI (Meteorological Imager sensor) and GK-2A (GEO-KOMPSAT-2A)/AMI (Advanced Meteorological Imager sensor), it is possible to continuously secure surface albedo outputs. However, the surface albedo outputs of COMS/MI and GK-2A/AMI differ between outputs due to differences in retrieval algorithms. Therefore, in order to expand the retrieval period of the surface albedo of COMS/MI and GK-2A/AMI to secure continuous climate change monitoring linkage, the analysis of the two satellite outputs and errors should be preceded. In this study, error characteristics were analyzed by performing comparative analysis with ground observation data AERONET (Aerosol Robotic Network) and other satellite data GLASS (Global Land Surface Satellite) for the overlapping period of COMS/MI and GK-2A/AMI surface albedo data. As a result of error analysis, it was confirmed that the RMSE of COMS/MI was 0.043, higher than the RMSE of GK-2A/AMI, 0.015. In addition, compared to other satellite (GLASS) data, the RMSE of COMS/MI was 0.029, slightly lower than that of GK-2A/AMI 0.038. When understanding these error characteristics and using COMS/MI and GK-2A/AMI’s surface albedo data, it will be possible to actively utilize them for long-term climate change monitoring.

        Alcohol Dependence, Mortality, and Chronic Health Conditions in a Rural Population in Korea

        To determine the effects of excessive drinking and alcohol dependency on mortality and chronic health problems in a rural community in South Korea, this study represents a nested case-control study. In 1998, we conducted the Alcohol Dependence Survey (ADS), a population survey of a village in Korea. To measure the effects of alcohol on chronic health conditions and mortality over time, in 2004, we identified 290 adults from the ADS sample (N=1,058) for follow-up. Of those selected, 145 were adults who had alcohol problems, either alcohol dependence as assessed in the ADS by the Severity of Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire (N=59), or excessive drinking without dependency (N=86). Further 145 nondrinkers were identified, matching those with alcohol problems in age and sex. We revisited the village in 2004 and completed personal interviews with them. In multivariate logistic regressions, the rates of mortality and morbidity of chronic health conditions were three times greater for alcohol dependents compared with the rate for nondrinkers. Importantly, however, excessive drinking without dependency was not associated with the rates of either mortality or morbidity. Future investigations would benefit by attending more specifically to measures for alcohol dependence as well as measures for alcohol consumption.
