        Transcriptome profiling of rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) discovers candidate regulators of the cold stress respo

        Tropical plant rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) is the sole source of commercial natural rubber and low-temperature stress is the most important limiting factor for its cultivation. To characterize the gene expression profiles of H. brasiliensis under the cold stress and discover the key cold stress-induced genes. Three cDNA libraries, CT (control), LT2 (cold treatment at 4 °C for 2 h) and LT24 (cold treatment at 4 °C for 24 h) were constructed for RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) and gene expression profiling. Quantitative real time PCR (qRT-PCR) was conducted to validate the RNA-Seq and gene differentially expression results. A total of 1457 and 2328 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in LT2 and LT24 compared with CT were respectively detected. Most significantly enriched KEGG pathways included flavonoid biosynthesis, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, plant hormone signal transduction, cutin, suberine and wax biosynthesis, Pentose and glucuronate interconversions, phenylalanine metabolism and starch and sucrose metabolism. A total of 239 transcription factors (TFs) were differentially expressed following 2 h or/and 24 h of cold treatment. Cold-response transcription factor families included ARR-B, B3, BES1, bHLH, C2H, CO-like, Dof, ERF, FAR1, G2-like, GRAS, GRF, HD-ZIP, HSF, LBD, MIKC-MADS, M-type MADS, MYB, MYB-related, NAC, RAV, SRS, TALE, TCP, Trihelix, WOX, WRKY, YABBY and ZF-HD. The genome-wide transcriptional response of rubber tree to the cold treatments were determined and a large number of DEGs were characterized including 239 transcription factors, providing important clues for further elucidation of the mechanisms of cold stress responses in rubber tree.

      • Functional Components and Antioxidant Effects of Colored Onions

        The antioxidant capacities, total phenolic contents (TPC), and total quercetin contents (TQC) of a red (Chenjujuck), a yellow (Sunpower), and a white (Grasier) onion cultivar were determined in this study. Onion was separated into edible portion and dry skin. In the case of edible portion, the yellow onion had the highest antioxidant activity, followed by the red onion. The white onion showed neither antioxidant activity nor quercetin compounds. On the other hand, the dry skin of the red onion showed higher antioxidant activity than yellow onion skin. The white onion skin had slight antioxidant activity, low TPC, and no quercetin compounds. In addition, the flavonoid compounds of the edible portion and dry skins of these colored onions were analyzed by UFLC(ultra-fast liquid chromatography). The major compounds were quercetin 3,4-diglucoside and quercetin 4- glucoside in yellow and red onion edible portion, whereas the major compounds in yellow and red onion skins were quercetin 4- glucoside, quercetin, and quercetin 3,4-diglucoside.

        Treating the osteosarcoma (OSA) remains a challenge. Current strategies focus on the primary tumor and have limited efficacy for metastatic OSA. A better understanding of the OSA pathogenesis may provide a rational basis for innovative treatment strategies especially for metastases. The aim of this review is to give an overview of the molecular mechanisms of OSA tumorigenesis, OSA cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and chemotherapy resistance, and how improved understanding might contribute to designing a better treatment target for OSA.

        從目的論角度看韓國影視劇劇名的中文.譯

        In recent years a growing number of South Korea’s films and TV dramas went intoChina,and they were very popular in cinema, television and DVD. However, as the difference in culture between China and South Korea, the meaning of their names would be changed when they were translated to Chinese. More than 600 South Korean films and TV dramas which were input into China from 2001 to 2012 have been researched in this paper. We discussed the features of their Chinese names and real names and analyzed the translation states of the South Korean film and TV drama in 21st century from aSkopos Theoryperspective.

        《韓國名散文》中國俗語義詞語的漢語翻譯方法硏究

        한 민족어의 의미 체계 속에는 어떤 객체를 표현하는 개념 의미 외에도 해당민족의 역사 문화, 풍속 습관, 민족 정서, 지리 환경등을 표현하는 다양한 문화 상징적 의미도 포함되어 있다. 이런 민족어를 국속(.俗)어휘라고 한다. 한 민족어의 개념의미에 더 첨가된 그 민족만이 갖고 있는 문화 상징적 의미를 국속의미라 하며 이런 국속의미를 연구하는 언어학의 한 분과를 국속의미론이라 한다. 넓은 의미로 말하자면 단어, 성, 속담, 전고 등이 모두 국속어휘에 속한다. 한국어 국속어휘는 한중 문화 교류에서 많이 쓰이고 있으므로 국속어휘의 번역은 단순히 개념의 전환뿐만 아니라 어휘의 은유적인 의미의 다른 문화 간의 전환이라고도 할 수 있어 자못 중요하다. 본 논문의 텍스트 『한국의 명수필』에는 여러 가지 유형의 국속어휘가 씌였는데 그중 단어형 국속어휘가 매우 특징적이다. 단어형 국속어휘는 고유어형 국속어휘와 한자어형 국속어휘 두 가지가 있다. 국속어휘를 온 전하게 번역하면 원문의 뜻을 올바르게 전달할수 있을 뿐만 아니라 독자들의 시야를 넓힐 수도 있다. 본 논문은 『한국의 명수필』에 나타난 단 어형 국속어휘를 대상으로 국속의미론을 적용하여 그 중국어 번역 방법을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 키워드: 국속의미론 국속어휘 중국어 번역

        FACILE SYNTHESIS OF HYDROXYLAPATITE NANOSTRUCTURES WITH VARIOUS MORPHOLOGIES

        The hydroxylapatite nanostructures with different morphologies have been synthesized by a facile solution approach. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technologies, and Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The control mechanism of the hydroxylapatite with various morphologies nanostructures was investigated. Some practical experimental conclusions could be obtained, which were expected to have potential values in crystal engineering research and practical applications.

      • Evaluation of Genetic Diversity in Rice Collections Using SSR Markers

        Rice(Oryza sativa L.) feeds more than 50% of the world’s population and is one of the most important crops in the world. To evaluate the variation between different rice classfications, genetic diversity amoung a diverse set of rice collection including 59 breedlines, 23 landraces, 18 weedy rices and 35 introductions were analysed using 134 SSR markers located on the 12 chromosomes. In total, 1269 alleles were identified with an average of 9.47 per locus. Of the 1269 alleles, 460 (36.2%) were common, with a frequency of 0.05–0.5; 741 (58.4%) were rare (frequency < 0.05) and 68 (5.4%) were abundant (frequency > 0.5). A relatively high Polymophism information content (PIC) value was detected in landraces with smaller number of accessions than that of breedlines. Model-based structure analysis revealed the presence of six subpopulations, which was essentially consistent with the clustering based on genetic distance. One hundred and eight accessions (80.0%) showed a clear relation to each cluster based on their inferred ancestry value (>70%), while the remaining 27 accessions (15.4%) of which nine from landraces and fifteen from introductions were categorized as admixtures. Landrace and introductions distributed to almost all the six subpopulations whereas most of breedlines distributed to two distinct subpopulations. In conculusion, landraces in the present study showed critical importance in preservation of genetic diversity and rice breeding programs.

      • Fatty Acid Synthesis Pathway Genetic Variants and Clinical Outcome of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients after Surgery

        Over-expression of de novo lipogenesis (DNL) genes is associated with the prognosis of various types of cancers. However, the effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in these genes on recurrence and survival of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients after surgery are still unknown. In this study, a total of 500 NSCLC patients who underwent surgery treatment were included. Eight SNPs in 3 genes (ACACA, FASN and ACLY) of the DNL pathway were examined using the Sequenom iPLEX genotyping system. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression and Kaplan-Meier curves were used to analyze the association of SNPs with patient survival and tumour recurrence. We found that two SNPs in the FASN gene were significantly associated with the recurrence of NSCLC. SNP rs4246444 had a significant association with lung cancer recurrence under additive model (hazard ratio [HR], 0.82; 95% confidence interval [95%CI], 0.67-1.00; p=0.05). Under the dominant model, rs4485435 exhibited a significant association with recurrence (HR, 0.75; 95%CI, 0.56-1.01; p=0.05). Additionally, SNP rs9912300 in ACLY gene was significantly associated with overall survival in lung cancer patients (HR, 1.41; 95%CI, 1.02-1.94, p=0.04) under the dominant model. Further cumulative effect analysis showed moderate dose-dependent effects of unfavorable SNPs on both survival and recurrence. Our data suggest that the SNPs in DNL genes may serve as independent prognostic markers for NSCLC patients after surgery.

        Experimental Study on the Performance of a Bidirectional Hybrid Piezoelectric-Hydraulic Actuator

        The piezoelectric-hydraulic actuator is a hybrid device that consists of a hydraulic pump driven by a piezo-stack coupled to a conventional hydraulic cylinder. The actuator is of compact size, but can produce a moderate energy output. Such hybrid actuators are currently being researched and developed in many industrialized countries due to the requirement for high performance and compact flight systems. In a previous study, we designed and manufactured a unidirectional hybrid actuator. However, the blocking force was not as high as expected. Therefore, in this study, we redesigned the pump chamber and hydraulic cylinder and also improved the system by removing the air bubbles. Two different types of piezo-stacks were used. In order to achieve bidirectional capabilities in the actuator, commercial solenoid valves were used to control the direction of the output cylinder. Experimental testing of the actuator in unidirectional and bidirectional modes was performed to examine performance issues related to driving frequency, bias pressure, reed valve thickness, etc. The results showed that the maximum blocking force was measured as 970.2N when the frequency was 185Hz.

      • An Experimental Study on Spray Transient Characteristics of Fuel Containing Co2 Using a High Speed Camera

        Injection of fuel containing CO2 involves dissolving the gas into fuel prior to injection, which has potential to reduce the NOx and soot emissions in diesel engine. This paper presents an experimental study on the flash boiling and atomization process of transient spray of fuel containing CO2 spray by means of high speed imaging technology. Experiments were performed under atmospheric conditions on a diesel hole-type nozzle. The effect of injection pressure on the flash boiling and atomization process were evaluated, especially in the early stage of injection. The transient characteristics of the spray, such as spray-angle and spray tip penetration were also investigated. The images clearly display the developing process of flashing boiling spray . Experimental results show that fuel atomization will improve greatly when the concentration of dissolved CO2 in the fuel is larger enough. New insight into the flash boiling and atomization process of the fuel containing CO2 spray was obtained and possible mechanism to explain the phenomena was proposed.
