Upper gastrointestinal bleeding is common and potentially life threatening medical emergency. Emergency endoscopy is the first choice of diagnostic and treatment measure for patients with active upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Histoacryl should be considered a second-line treatment modality when conventional treatments were failed. However, it might cause several complications. Herein, we report a case of acute pancreatitis developed after histoacryl injection therapy for active duodenal ulcer bleeding. A 71-year-old man was admitted with melena and hematemesis. On emergency endoscopy, a 2 cm sized active ulcer with bleeding from an exposedvessel was seen at the duodenal bulb. Attempts to arrest the bleeding with hemoclipping and submucosal epinephrine injection were tried, but failed. We changed the method to endoscopic histoacryl injection, and obtained hemostasis immediately. A few hourslater, after successful hemostasis, patient complained diffuse abdominal pain. Ultrasonography revealed hyperechoic heterogenous diffuse pancreatic enlargement and right pararenal space fluid collection, this ultrasonographic findings and elevated serum pancreatic enzymes are compatible with acute pancreatitis.

Pepper genetic resources consisting of introductions from Mexico and Nepal and susceptible and resistant controls were tested for resistance to gray leaf spot and to bacterial spot by serially inoculating the two disease pathogens, Stemphylium spp. first and Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria next, with application of fungicide after evaluation of resistance to gray leaf spot first. KC866, KC872, KC902, KC905 were resistant to gray leaf spot in addition to known resistance sources, KC43, KC47, KC220, KC319, KC320, KC380. KC897 was on the top of the resistance sources list, even better than KC177(163192), and was followed by KC889, KC896, KC898, all of which were introductions from Nepal.

As modern people's interest in health grows, wearable healthcare-related technologies that can collect biometric information and receive health-related services regardless of time and place are developing. This paper proposes the healthcare system based on voice recognition function. Unlike conventional wearable healthcare systems, the proposed system provides real-time telemedicine and diagnosis and the direct connection with doctors is possible through it. And almost all functions of the application in it are operated with voice commands to lower user access barriers. Because it deals with personal information including medical information, encryption algorithms have been applied between all data movements. Finally, the healthcare system proposed in this paper is expected to increase convenience in health care and reduce the medical gap.

Gastritis cystica profunda (GCP) is a disease characterized by hyperplastic and significant extension of cystic dilatation of the gastric mucous glands, which results in a cystic lesion in gastric submucosa. It often occurs on the part of gastroenterostomy, but can be found in the stomach without any previous surgery. GCP has variable gross finding including solitary polyps, diffuse ones, submucosal tumors, and rare giant gastric mucosal fold. It is difficult to tell GCP from a cancerous lesion by gross finding that the disease demands a necessary tissue biopsy, though GCP is commonly showed as a benign in the progress. We report a case of GCP in polypoid types diagnosed by endoscopic polypectomy.

Gastric angiodysplasia is vascular ectasia in mucosa and submucosa of the gastric wall. It is an uncommon cause of upper gastrointesinal hemorrhage that may occur in the stomach or duodenum. There are many kinds of endoscopic treatments, such as argon plasma coagulation, electrocoagulation, heat probe, and submucosal injection of hypertonic saline mixed with epinephrine for gastric angiodysplasia. However, these treatment methods are associated with high rate of rebleeding. In order to avoid the recurrence, endoscopic band ligation has recently been used as an alternative method for endoscopic treatment of gastric angiodysplasia. We encountered a case of gastric angiodysplasia that presented with overt bleeding and anemia, and was successfully treated with endoscopic band ligation.

Rosin-alum sizing has been very important in papermaking since it was developed by Morits lllig in 1807. But effect of alum is varied by pH condition very significantly. Therefore rosin sizing has limited in acid condition. So cellulose reactive sizing agents were developed and used papermaking industry. But they have so many problems and concern for rosin sizing in neutral pH condition is increased. In this study, we attempt to confirm the possibility of rosin sizing in neutral pH condition with cupric ion and C-PAM as mordant.

<P>In this study, a poly(ϵ-caprolactone) (PCL)/bioactive glass (BG) nanocomposite was fabricated using BG nanofibers (BGNFs) and compared with an established composite fabricated using microscale BG particles. The BGNFs were generated using sol–gel precursors via the electrospinning process, chopped into short fibers and then incorporated into the PCL organic matrix by dissolving them in a tetrahydrofuran solvent. The biological and mechanical properties of the PCL/BGNF composites were evaluated and compared with those of PCL/BG powder (BGP). Because the PCL/BG composite containing 20 wt % BG showed the highest level of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, all evaluations were performed at this concentration except for that of the ALP activity itself. In vitro cell tests using the MC3T3 cell line demonstrated the enhanced biocompatibility of the PCL/BGNF composite compared with the PCL/BGP composite. Furthermore, the PCL/BGNF composite showed a significantly higher level of bioactivity compared with the PCL/BGP composite. In addition, the results of the in vivo animal experiments using Sprague–Dawley albino rats revealed the good bone regeneration capability of the PCL/BGNF composite when implanted in a calvarial bone defect. In the result of the tensile test, the stiffness of the PCL/BG composite was further increased when the BGNFs were incorporated. These results indicate that the PCL/BGNF composite has greater bioactivity and mechanical stability when compared with the PCL/BG composite and great potential as a bone regenerative material. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We developed a transparent oxide–metal–oxide (OMO) structure using aluminum-doped zinc oxide and oxidized silver (AgO<SUB>x</SUB>) as a transparent electrode of a hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) thin-film solar cell for use in building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) windows. The oxygen (O<SUB>2</SUB>) addition (O<SUB>2</SUB> flow rate) was optimized for a metal-to-dielectric intermediate-phase AgO<SUB>x</SUB> OMO to have high transparency and high conductivity, which were confirmed by finite-difference time-domain simulation. Using the AgO<SUB>x</SUB> OMO as a rear electrode, transparent a-Si:H solar cells were fabricated for BIPV window application. The performance of the fabricated cells showed highest bifacial efficiency (b-<I>η</I>) of 7.87% at AgO<SUB>x</SUB> OMO of 1 sccm, and highest average transmittance (<I>T</I> <SUB>500–800</SUB>, i.e., wavelength range: 500–800 nm) of 21.9% at AgO<SUB>x</SUB> OMO of 3 sccm, i.e., improvements from b-<I>η</I> = 7.42% and <I>T</I> <SUB>500–800</SUB> = 18.8% at Ag OMO of 0 sccm. The cell with the optimized AgO<SUB>x</SUB> OMO (3 sccm) achieved b-<I>η</I> = 7.69% and the best figure of merit (product of b-<I>η</I> and <I>T</I> <SUB>500–800</SUB>) of 169%, i.e., 30% higher than the Ag OMO cell (139%). Benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML) is composed of well-differentiated smooth muscle cells and dense connective tissue. BML affects middle-aged women who have had previous hysterectomies due to a histologically benign-appearing uterine leiomyoma. We report here on a case of BML from the uterine leiomyoma in a 39-year-old woman that involved the soft tissues, skeletal muscles, lungs and breasts. She underwent a hysterectomy for the uterine leiomyoma, double oophorectomy for hormonal ablation and lung wedge resection to confirm the diagnosis. The microscopic findings of the breast and lung tumor were similar to those of the benign uterine leiomyoma. Therefore, we consider that these lesions were breast and pulmonary metastases of the uterine leiomyoma. We report here on a rare case of benign metastasizing uterine leiomyoma that involved the soft tissue, skeletal muscles, lungs and breasts, and we include a review of the relevant literature.
