      • OLDER ADULTS’ ADOPTION BEHAVIOR OF MOBILE HEALTH (MHEALTH) APPS: INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY READINESS WITH PROTECTION MOTIVATION THEORY

        Although older adults’ adoption rates of smartphones have continued to increase in recent years, health-related apps are not widely accepted by older adults. Therefore, the primary aim of this study was to explore older adults’ adoption behavior of mobile health (mHealth) apps in the U.S. Specifically, this study applied protection motivation theory (PMT; Rogers, 1975) as the theoretical base to explain older adults’ adoption process of health apps to understand the influences of threat and coping appraisals on older adults’ adoption behavior of health apps. In addition, the current study incorporated the technology readiness theory (Parasuraman, 2000) to understand the influences of older adults’ positive and negative technological readiness (TR) on their PMT components. Data were collected from older adults (n = 600; 60% female) aged over 55 in the U.S. using online survey questionnaires. The data analysis was conducted using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings suggest the impact of coping appraisals on older adults’ attitudes toward mHealth apps and their (continuance) intention to use mHealth apps. Especially among PMT’s four appraisal components, response efficacy was the most critical underlying mechanism driving mHealth app-related attitude and behavioral intention. In addition, older adults’ beliefs about using mHealth apps (i.e., TR) significantly influenced their coping appraisal processes, while positive TR was more critical in forecasting their coping appraisals. The results suggest a need to classify older consumers into different segments based on their TR to develop differentiated marketing strategies. The findings also suggest that marketers understand various protective motivation components concerning the use of mHealth apps among older adults.

        Comparison of the Smoking Cessation of Heated Tobacco Product Users and Conventional Cigarette Smokers in Korea

        Background: Since the introduction of heated tobacco products (HTPs) in Korea in 2017, their annual sales have increased. Several studies have investigated the perceptions of HTPs and smoking cessation behaviors. For the first time, In 2019, questions focused on HTP use were introduced in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examina-tion Survey (KNHNES). This study aimed to compare smoking cessation behaviors between HTP users and con-ventional cigarette smokers using KNHANES data.Methods: Data of 947 current adult smokers from the 8th KNHNES (2019) were analyzed. Current smokers were divided into conventional cigarette (CC)–only, HTP-only, and dual-use groups. The general characteristics of the three groups were investigated. Differences in current intention to quit smoking and past attempts to quit smoking among the three groups were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression analysis by IBM SPSS ver. 25.0.Results: HTP-only users demonstrated fewer future smoking cessation plans (adjusted odds ratio [AOR], 0.398; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.195–0.813; P=0.012) and fewer smoking cessation attempts in the past year (AOR, 0.533; 95% CI, 0.298–0.954; P=0.034) than CC-only smokers. However, there was no significant difference between dual-use (CC+HTP) and CC-only smokers.Conclusion: While dual-use and CC-only smokers showed similar smoking cessation behaviors, HTP-only users had fewer previous attempts to quit smoking and were less likely to be currently ready to quit smoking. These find-ings can be explained by a decrease in the need to quit smoking due to the convenience of HTP and the perception that HTPs are less harmful than CC.

        This paper aims to restructure the realization variables and functions of Korean postpostions ‘eun/neun, i/ga, eul/reul’ from a onomasiological approach, incorporating the concept of information structure. The primary objective is to propose the learners’ perception of these postpositions as part of a learner-based grammatical inquiry. Traditionally, the education of Korean postpositions has been mainly conducted from an semasiological approach. While this approach has been effective in acquiring systematic grammar knowledge and using accurate grammar structures, it might not be the most suitable method for teaching all grammar elements. Particularly, due to the subtle functional differences depending on context, postpositions ‘eun/neun, i/ga, eul/reul’ have limitations in being adequately acquired through traditional approaches. In this paper, the discussion and education of the functions of ‘eun/neun, i/ga, eul/reul’ are highlighted from a onomasiological approach rather than an semasiological approach, recognizing the need for improvement. The concept of information structure, which refers to the structural aspects of information based on its nature and arrangement, including topic and focus, guarantees a onomasiological approach. By adopting the concept of information structure, learners can explore the context in which postpositions ‘eun/neun, i/ga, eul/reul’ are chosen and their meaning and functions simultaneously. For instance, in information structure which adopts a multi-layer structure, the topic and focal elements can coexist, allowing to be combined with various propositions, ‘eun/neun, i/ga, eul/reul’. This means that each postposition must be denying their specific markers and be selected by context or speakers’ intention. In facts, it is understood that postpositions ‘eun/neun, i/ga, eul/reul’ possess a contrastive attribute principle, meaning that when realized in the text, they form alternative sets of conjunctive or disjunctive. They interact organically with information positions, leading to varying degrees of contrastiveness. Specifically, when the postposition ‘eun/neun’ is realized in a non-main clause or receives focus, it exhibits exclusiveness, but when it is realized on the topic, it demonstrates contrastiveness through the principle of alternatives. To help Korean lanuage learners acquire the complex relationship between these postpostions and information positions, this paper proposes a learner-based inquiry. The existing learner perception types are comprehended as concrete entities that allow exploration of learners’ intrinsic experiential structures based on the concept of knowledge structure. The subject of inquiry includes the form, meaning, and pragmatics of postpositions, encompassing discourse domains and the cognitive state of speakers and listeners. Consequently, the paper reveals the process of learners actively perceiving the contextual variables and functions of postpositions through the stages of observation, analysis, and judgment as the existence of inquiry.

        심장 혈관계 시스템의 교육 모형 고안

        심장의 모양 및 혈관에 관한 의료학적 지식습득은 의료인 및 의료기사들과 같은 의료전문인들에게는 필수적 요구사항이다. 심장의 모형을 통한 의료지식의 습득은 환자의 생명과도 직결되는 중요한 사항이기 때문에 보다 정확한 의료지식이 필요하다. 따라서 심장모양 및 심장혈관질환에 대한 다양한 의료교구재의 연구 및 개발이 필요하다. 이번 연구에서 만들어진 심장 및 심장혈관의 투시 모형장비를 사용하여 심장 혈류의 투시조영시의 볼 수 있는 방사선학적 사진 영상을 미리 습득할 수 있으며, 또한 투시 조영 중 환자의 자세의 따른 심장의 위치와 모형을 미리 예측해 볼 수도 있다. 결론적으로 우리가 고안한 심장혈관 투시 장비를 사용하여 심장혈관의 해부학적 지식을 미리 습득함으로서 면허 취득 후에 임상생활에 있어서의 심장혈류에 관한 정확한 이해에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. The understanding of medical knowledge regarding cardiac shape and cardiovascular system is essentially required for a medical personnel as well as a medical technician. Correct acquisition of medical knowledge through cardiac miniature model is very critical because it is directly related to a patient life. therefore replica model is necessary for the education regarding cardiac and cardiovascular system. In this study anatomical cardiovascular system on fluoroscopy can be shown by cardiac and cardiovascular fluoroscopy replica model. Also, it helps to understand a cardiovascular radiograph. Consequentially medical personnel and medical technician are able to take advantage of this equipment to understand cardiovascular fluoroscopy system.

      • Neurotrophin-3 Regulates Synapse Development by Modulating TrkC-PTPσ Synaptic Adhesion and Intracellular Signaling Pathways

        <P>Neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) is a secreted neurotrophic factor that binds neurotrophin receptor tyrosine kinase C (TrkC), which in turn binds to presynaptic protein tyrosine phosphatase sigma (PTP sigma) to govern excitatory synapse development. However, whether and how NT-3 cooperates with the TrkC-PTP sigma synaptic adhesion pathway and TrkC-mediated intracellular signaling pathways in rat cultured neurons has remained unclear. Here, we report that NT-3 enhances TrkC binding affinity for PTP sigma. Strikingly, NT-3 treatment bidirectionally regulates the synaptogenic activity of TrkC: at concentrations of 10-25 ng/ml, NT-3 further enhanced the increase in synapse density induced by TrkC overexpression, whereas at higher concentrations, NT-3 abrogated TrkC-induced increases in synapse density. Semi-quantitative immunoblotting and optogenetics-based imaging showed that 25 ng/ml NT-3 or light stimulation at a power that produced a comparable level of NT-3 (6.25 mu W) activated only extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and Akt, whereas 100 ng/ml NT-3 (light intensity, 25 mu W) further triggered the activation of phospholipase C-gamma 1 and CREB independently of PTP sigma. Notably, disruption of TrkC intracellular signaling pathways, extracellular ligand binding, or kinase activity by point mutations compromised TrkC-induced increases in synapse density. Furthermore, only sparse, but not global, TrkC knock-down in cultured rat neurons significantly decreased synapse density, suggesting that intercellular differences in TrkC expression level are critical for its synapse-promoting action. Together, our data demonstrate that NT-3 is a key factor in excitatory synapse development that may direct higher-order assembly of the TrkC/PTP sigma complex and activate distinct intracellular signaling cascades in a concentration-dependent manner to promote competition-based synapse development processes.</P>
