        참치 뼈에서 추출한 hydroxyapatite를 출발물질로 여러 가지 세라믹 복합체를 제조하여 인공체액에서의 hydroxyapatite 복합체간의 화학결합을 조사하였다. hydroxyapatite 복합체들은 인공체액에서 4주 후부터 화학 결합성질을 나타내었다. 결합강도는 bioglass가 가장 강하게 나타났으며, 조성에 따른 의존성은 관찰할 수 없었다. 인공체액에서 복합체들은 이들의 경계면에서 불균일 핵생성 및 성장에 의해 화학적 결합으로 이루어졌다. Chemical bonding was investigated in the simulated body fluid of several selected hydroxyapatite-containing composites. The hydroxyapatite-containing composites chemically bonded with each other in the simulated body fluid after 4 weeks. Bioglass was strongly bonded in the simulated body fluid, but bonding strength was not depended on composition. Their composite bodies were chemically bonded by heterogeneous nucleation and growth at the interfaces of the specimens in the simulated body fluid.

      • The State Estimator for Underwater Vehicle Systems

        In this paper, an estimation method for extimating teh states of underwater vehicle systems with external unknown disturbance is proposed. First, the dynamics of underwater vehicle are induced by Taylor series expansion in the vertical plane and horizontal plane, respectively. For constructing the vehicle model, the external efforts, i.e., the sea surface disturbances, the current, wave and etc., are regarded as external unknown disturbances. Thus the disturbances is added as external input into state-space form of underwater vehicle systems. To estimate the state of systems with unknown disturbance, a disturbance observer which does not effected the external unknown input is proposed, and the existence condition for the observer is given. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed disturbance observer for underwater vehicle systems is verified by using numerical simulation.

        급성 주정 중독 흰쥐에서 간의 Aryl sulfotransferase and UDP-Glucuronosyltransferase 활성에 미치는 총담관 결찰의 영향

        The activities of aryl sulfotransferase (AST) isozymes Ⅰ-Ⅱand Ⅲ-Ⅳand UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UDP-GT) were measured in rats with acute ethanol intoxication after common bile duct(CBD) ligation to investigate the adverse effects of alcohol ingestion to the liver under the hepatobiliary disease. Serum AST Ⅰ-Ⅱ and AST Ⅲ-Ⅳ activities in CBD ligated rats combined with acute ethanol intoxication showed greater increases than that in CBD ligation alone. These results indicate that the leak of hepatic AST isozymes into blood is facilitated in CBD ligated rats combined with acute ethanol intoxication than in CBD ligation alone due to aggravated hepatic membrane damage. Liver mitochondrial AST Ⅰ-Ⅱ and AST Ⅲ-Ⅳ activities in CBD ligated rats combined with acute ethanol intoxication showed less increases than that in CBD ligation alone. However, liver microsomal UDP-GT activity in CBD ligated rats combined with acute ethanol intoxication showed a more decrease than that in CBD ligation alone. On the other hand, when acute ethanol intoxication was combined with CBD ligation, the values of Vmax of the liver mitochondrial AST Ⅰ-Ⅱ, AST Ⅲ-Ⅳ and liver microsomal UDP-GT decreased significantly than that in CBD ligation alone. However, the values of Km of above hepatic enzymes did not change. Viewed from these results, when acute ethanol intoxication was combined with cholestasis, these enzymes in the liver seem to be decreases their biosynthesis than that in cholestasis. According to all of the results, if ethanol intoxication is combined with cholestasis, the hepatic damage is aggravated.

      • 백혈병 세포주에 대한(±)-ar-Turmerone, 자근 및 황금추출물에 의한 항암제의 세포독성 증강효과

        Using the colorimetric [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] (MTT) assay, we evaluated the chemosensitivity of 8 anticancer drugs{vincristine(VCR), vinblastine(VBL), adriamycin(ADR), cisplatin(CPDD), etoposide(VP-16), cytosine arabinoside(ara-C), bleomycin(Bleo) and cyclophosphamide(CYC)} and the cytotoxicity-enhancing effects of (±)-ar-turmerone and the extracts of the crude drugs {Lithospermum erythrorhizon(LE) and Scutellaria baicalensis (SB)} on the above mentioned anticancer drugs against HL-60 and KG-1 cells among 8 anticancer drugs, VCR, VBL, ADR, and CPDD inhibited the growth of both cell lines by more than 50%, while VP-16, ara-C, Bleo, and CYC were less effective. (±)-ar-Turmerone had significant inhibitory effects against both cell lines, showing the ID_50 values of 11.730 ㎍/㎖ and 0.292 ㎍/㎖ for HL-60 and KG-1 cells. respectively. But the extracts of LE and SB roots showed no significant cytotoxic effects. According to ID_50 values, the cytotoxicities of VCR, VBL and ADR against HL-60 were enhanced two, eight and three times by mixing (±)-ar-turmerone, five, seven and three times by adding the extract of LE root, and twenty, six and three times by mixing the extract of SB root, respectively. The cytotoxicities of the above mentioned drugs against KG-1 cell were enhanced two, seven and three times by mixing (±)-ar-turmerone, two, three and three times by combining with the extract of LB root, and two, five and two times by adding the extract of SB root, respectively. The cytotoxicity-potentiating effects of (±)-ar-turmerone and the extracts of LE and SB roots againg HL-60 cell were greater than KG-1 cell.

        인천 인현동 호프집 화재 피해자 분석

        Purpose : This study was conducted to develop field triage, transportation, distribution, and prehospital care at a fire disaster by analyzing the victims of the fore that broke out at a bar in Incheon. Method : We analyzed the cases of the victims of a fire in Incheon in Oct. 1999. We determined the primary care hospital, the arrival time, the burn size, the outcome, and the injury type from the medical records, the concerned organ records, and interviews with concerned persons. Result : The total number of victims was 137: 56 prehospital deaths, 1 hospital death, and 80 survivals. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the burn size and the severity was -0.175. There were 121(89.6%) cases of inhalation injury, 59 (43.7%) cases of flame burns, 66 (48.9%) cases of hypoxic brain damage, and 16 (11.9%) cases involving other types of injury. Conclusion : The causes of death of the fire victims were inhalation injury and hypoxic brain damage due to CO poisoning and other toxic inhalants. We propose the use of a simple triage and rapid treatment(START) system and a reassessment the delayed category in fire disasters.

        Antibacterial and remineralization effects of orthodontic bonding agents containing bioactive glass

        Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the mechanical and biological properties of orthodontic bonding agents containing silver- or zinc-doped bioactive glass (BAG) and determine the antibacterial and remineralization effects of these agents. Methods: BAG was synthesized using the alkali-mediated solgel method. Orthodontic bonding agents containing BAG were prepared by mixing BAG with flowable resin. TransbondTM XT (TXT) and CharmfilTM Flow (CF) were used as controls. Ion release, cytotoxicity, antibacterial properties, the shear bond strength, and the adhesive remnant index were evaluated. To assess the remineralization properties of BAG, micro-computed tomography was performed after pH cycling. Results: The BAG-containing bonding agents showed no noticeable cytotoxicity and suppressed bacterial growth. When these bonding agents were used, demineralization after pH cycling began approximately 200 to 300 μm away from the bracket. On the other hand, when CF and TXT were used, all surfaces that were not covered by the adhesive were demineralized after pH cycling. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that orthodontic bonding agents containing silver- or zinc-doped BAG have stronger antibacterial and remineralization effects compared with conventional orthodontic adhesives; thus, they are suitable for use in orthodontic practice.

        Correlation among Residual PCDDs/PCDFs, Co-planar PCBs, and HCB in Ambient Air

        A total of 35 ambient-air monitoring sites were selected in residential, industrial, commercial, urban, and rural areas. A total of 1,132 data for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDDs/PCDFs) and hexachlorobenzene (HCB), and co-planar polychlorinated biphenyls (co-PCBs) have been measured since 1999 and 2002, respectively. The result was used for this correlation study. A fairly good correlation of R2=0.7222 was observed between the TEQ values of PCDDs/PCDFs and co-planar PCBs, but there were poor correlations of R2=0.0655~0.1644 between the residual PCDDs/PCDFs or co-planar PCBs and HCB, either TEQ or total values. Major reasons for little correlations between them can be explained as followings: 1) HCB` three orders higher detection limit, principally caused by low-resolution work of mass spectrometry, than PCDDs/PCDFs and co-planar PCBs, 2) HCB`s less adsorption onto polyurethane foams (PUFs) due to breakthrough influenced by ambient-air temperature, and 3) area-specific characteristics of unintentionally-produced persistent organic pollutants (UPOPs) due to source-specific emission characteristics. Consequently, analysis of ambient HCB, in which gaseous HCB was sampled with only PUPs and determined by low-resolution work of mass spectrometry, might not be a useful approach to prediction of the levels of PCDDs/PCDFs and co-planar PCBs.
