Gene Expression Profiling in the Silkworm, Bombyx mori, During Early Embryonic Development

<P>We prepared a cDNA library for a microarray from eggs of the silkworm, Bombyx mori, at the germ-band formation (24 hours after fertilization) stage. Using a microarray constructed with 2,445 ESTs, we screened gene expression profiles during germ-band formation at six specific time points in the early embryonic stages (from the unfertilized egg to the formation of abdominal leg appendages), and determined 241 of these cDNAs to represent genes that were expressed differentially during the germ-band formation stage. These differentially expressed genes grouped into two clusters. In the early and late clusters, 203 and 38 genes were upregulated, respectively. In the upregulated clusters, we isolated several genes that were associated with development and cell communication, including egalitarian, RAD23b, innexin 2, and senescence-associated protein. Northern blot hybridization revealed that the expression patterns of 14 genes had changed in each of the stages. In this study, we assessed changes in the levels of gene expression in relation to the germ-band formation stages in whole Bombyx embryos.</P>
Sensitivities of Entomopathogenic Fungus Aschersonia aleyrodis to Bordeaux Mixtures and Lime Sulfur

Aschersonia aleyrodis was well-known to be a biological control agent for citrus whitefly, Dialeurodes citri. This entomopathogenic fungus is naturally occurred in organic farming citrus orchards in Jeju. Both lime-sulfur and Bordeaux mixtures are extensively used today to control citrus diseases like citrus melanose and citrus scab, especially in organic farming pest management program. The high concentrated lime-sulfur is also used for pest control such as pink citrus rust mite and scale insects. This study was focused to test the conidial germination and sporulation of Aschersonia aleyrodis on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium containing different concentrations of two fungicides. The conidia of Aschersonia aleyrodis grown on PDA mixed with commercial bordeaux mixtures, CM150-505, at dilution rate 1:200 (water : bordeaux mixture) were well-germinated but not sporulated at all. On the other hand, Aschersonia aleyrodis did not sporulate and germinate on lime sulfur treated PDA medium even at extremely low dilution rate 1:2,048,000 (water : lime sulfur). However, when the mycelial cells grown at 25o C for at least 7 days at soluble starch-tryptone medium were added to PDA, they were well-sporulated even at high dilution rate 1:100 (water : lime sulfur). This result suggested that the spore mixtures of Aschersonia aleyrodis should be applied to field quite long after lime-sulfur spray.

Background/Aims : To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ledipasvir/sofosbuvir (LDV/SOF) therapy in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected Korean patients in a real clinical setting. Methods: A total of 273 patients who received LDV/SOF therapy between May 2016 and February 2021 were consecutively enrolled and analyzed. A per-protocol analysis was performed to evaluate the virologic response. Results: Seventy-five percent were infected with genotype 1, and 25% were infected with genotype 2. A hundred eightyone (66.3%) patients had chronic hepatitis, 74 (27.1%) had compensated cirrhosis, eight (2.9%) had decompensated cirrhosis, and 10 (3.7%) had undergone liver transplantation. Undetectable HCV RNA at week 4 was achieved in 90.2% (231/256) of patients, 99.2% (250/252) achieved the end of treatment response, and 98.1% (202/206) achieved sustained virologic response at 12 weeks post-treatment (SVR12). According to liver function, the SVR12 rates were 99.3% (135/136) in chronic hepatitis, 96.4% (53/55) in compensated cirrhosis, and 100% (6/6) in decompensated cirrhosis. The SVR12 rates according to the genotype were 98.2% (167/170) for genotype 1 and 97.2% (35/36) for genotype 2. An 8-week LDV/SOF treatment in treatment-naïve chronic hepatitis patients with HCV RNA < 6,000,000 IU/mL at baseline resulted in 100% (23/23) SVR12 rates. Overall, LDV/SOF was tolerated well, with a 0.7% (2/273) discontinuation rate due to adverse events that were unrelated to LDV/SOF. Conclusions: LDV/SOF is effective and safe for treating HCV-infected Korean patients with high SVR12 rates.

연구의 목적은 지체장애인들의 신체적 특성을 고려하여 움직이기 편하면서 외관이 보기좋은 기능성 의복을 제작하는데 있다. 휠체어, 크러치를 사용하는 여성 장애인을 대상으로 쟈켓, 바지, 휠체어 랩을 제작하여 외관상 기성복과 차이가 나지 않으면서 보조기구를 사용하는데 불편함이 없는 디자인을 제시하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 휠체어사용자 쟈켓은 어깨와 팔의 동작을 쉽게 하기 위해서 뒤 bodice 소매둘레부위에 action pleats를 주었으며 팔꿈치 부위에 주름으로 처리하여 당김과 움직임을 수월하게 하였다. 바지는 허리선 위치를 수정하고 굽혀져 있는 무릎부위에 앞은 주름, 뒤는 다아트로 처리하였다. 둘째, 크러치 사용자는 전체적으로 외관이 올라간 것처럼 보이는 것을 막기 위하여 쟈켓길이을 길게 하고 쟈켓 위에 조끼를 덧입은 것처럼 보이게 하였다. 바지의 허리선은 고무벨트를 달았으며 양쪽 옆트임을 하여 지퍼를 달았다. 셋째, 휠체어 랩은 방수와 방한을 대비하여 만든 옷으로 전체적인 외관이 롱 원피스 형이 발부위에 사각형 발판을 만들어 바람이 들어오지 못하도록 하였고, 양쪽 옆 지퍼를 사용하여 여밈 처리하였다.
Microsatellite Sequence Variation of Eleven Lineages of European Honeybee(Apis mellifera) in Korea

Honeybees (Apis mellifera) adapted themselves to different geographical and climatical conditions since they had been introduced in Korea. Beekeepers have tried to breed valuable lineages with artificial insemination or conventional mating techniques. However, evaluation of breeding resultants still relies on timeconsuming observation data. Genetical characterization of breeds has proven its usefulness to preserve genetic resources of livestock. In recent years, microsatellites are most commonly used to evaluate population structures and diversities of living organisms in that the characteristics of locus specificity, rich polymorphism, abundant and random distribution over the genome, and their co-dominant inheritance. Determining classic genetic distances using neutral, highly polymorphic microsatellite markers is a reliable method to investigate genetic relationships and breed differentiation. This methodology can be used to establish preservation priorities for livestock breeds. The final aim of this study was to develop potent markers for assessing genetic structure of lineages after artificial insemination. In this study, the genetic structure of ten microsatellite markers were sequenced or analysed with polymerase chain reaction for eleven European honeybee populations. The results may help to develop reliable microsatellite markers for more efficient preservation strategies of valuable honeybee breeds.
Radical Scavenging Effects of Propolis collected in Korea

Propolis, bee glue is a sticky substances, which is used to prevent corruption of the ones who broke into the hive, and which is known as a substance that inhibits the growth of microorganisms within the hive. In order to use this propolis, is required to extract the active ingredients from the raw propolis. Mainly goes through the process of extraction with ethanol. Propolis is registered as health functional food for food and drug safety with a valid registration which is anti-oxidant effects and anti microbial effects of oralflora. Inthis study, in order to determine the antioxidant effect of propolis produced in various regions collected 58 regions. Antioxidant effects were tested by DPPH free radical scavenging effects method. Asa result, the propolis concentrations by 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000㎍ were 43, 73, 78, 82, and 73%, in Gangwon province, Gyeonggi Province, 57, 83, 83, 79, and 71%, Chungcheong Province, 55, 80, 80, 76, and 68%, Jeolla province 48, 75, 78, 78, and 71%, Gyeongsang province 47, 77, 81, 79, and 71%, respectively. More than a certain concentration was to determine antioxidant falling rather. These results can be said to suggest if you use the edible excess should be avoided.
