      • 백혈병 세포주에 대한 (±)-ar-Turmerone, 자근 및 황금추출물에 의한 항암제의 세포독성 증강효과

        Using the colorimetric [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide](MTT)assay, we evaluated the chemosensitivity of 8 anticancer drugs{vincristine(VCR), vinblastine(VBL), adriamycin(ADR), cisplatin(CPDD), etoposide(VP-16), cytosine arabinoside(ara-C), bleomycin(Bleo) and cyclophosphamide(CYC)} and the cytotoxicity-enhancing effects of (±)-ar-turmerone and the extracts of the crude drugs {Lithospermum erythrorhizon(LE) and Scutellaria baicalensis(SB)}on the above mentioned anticancer drugs against HL-60 and KG-1 cells among 8 anticancer drugs, VCR, VBL, ADR, and CPDD inhibited the growth of both cell lines by more than 50% while VP-16, ara-C, Bleo, and CYC were less effective. (±)-ar-Turmerone had significant inhibitory effects against both cell lines, showing the ID_50 values of 11.730 ㎍/㎖ and 0.292 ㎍/㎖ for HL-60 and KG-1 cells. respectively. But the extracts of LE and SB roots showed no significant cytotoxic effects. According to ID_50 values, the cytotoxicities of VCR, VBL and ADR against HL-60 were enhanced two, eight and three times by mixing (±)-ar-turmerone, five, seven and three times by adding the extract of LE root, and twenty, six and three times by mixing the extract of SB root, respectively. The cytotoxicities of the above mentioned drugs against KG-1 cell were enhanced two, seven and three times by mixing (±)-ar-turmerone, two, three and three times by conbining wilth the extract of LB root, and two, five and two times by adding the extract of SB root, respectively. The cytotoxicity-potentiating effects of (±)-ar-turmerone and the extracts of LE and SB roots against HL-60 cell were greater than KG-1 cell.

        This article suggests a set of revised English stress rules which English teachers can apply in class. The revised rules are drawn from the word stress rules by chomsky & Halle, Kreidler and Liles. The rules are as follows: Condition 1. If the noun has the last lax vowel, the rule is applied to the rest of the noun except the last syllable. Condition 2. The suffix of a word, as -ly, -ment, -hood, -ing, cannot change the stress of root Rule 1. place stress on the last tense vowel of a word Rule 2. Place stress on the last vowel of a word if it is followed by a cluster of two or more consonants. Rule 3. Place stress on next to the last vowel of a word if neither of the above conditioon is met. The rules can help English teachers easily predict where the primary stress is placed in simple words and words with affixes.

        We had grown Cd_0.78Zn_0.22S polycrystal thin films on slide substrate using chemical vapour deposition(CVD) method. We measured X-ray diffraction patterns in order to study Cd_0.78Zn_0.22S polycrystal structure. We studied its band gap using transmission curves and photocurrent and also analyzed photoluminescence using configurational coordinate model. We measured Hall effect·on this sample by Van der Pauw method and studied on carrier density and mobility depending on temperature.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the pronunciation problem on high vowel in English, and to think about the resolution of it. The subjects of this experiment were 10 Korean high school students, and their identifying ability on /i, ι, u,υ/was measured. The result was that subjects could identify tense vowels better than lax vowel. That is, the pronunciation problem of high-vowels appears to be in lax vowel. The resolution was suggested that (a) English teachers and students should know that the difference of tense from lax vowel is in sound quality, not in duration; (b) to identify the high vowels, teachers should use in the classroom the tape that English native speakers record the minimal pair-words including the high vowels.

        Recently, PLC (Power Line Communication) on medium voltage power lines have been gaining much attention for high data rate access networking. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) schemes on medium voltage power line channels in the frequency range up to 20 ㎒. We analyze fading characteristics of multi-path channel models for medium voltage power lines, and simulations have been carried out for the OFDM using adaptive bit loading scheme. Simulation results indicate that the OFDM schemes with the adaptive bit loading show good bit error rate performance under harsh medium voltage power lines channel.

        리듬체조 Ring jump동작의 운동학적 분석

        본 연구는 리듬체조를 구성하는 기술 중에서 신체 기본요소군의 Jump에 포함되는 C난도 Ring jump의 3차원 동작분석을 통해 분석하여 선수들의 기술향상과 지도에 필요한 정량적 자료를 제공하는데 목적을 두었다. 이벤트별 소요시간에서는 E-3에서 0.409±0.017sec로 가장 긴 소요시간을 보였다. 신체중심의 변위에서는 E-3에서 88.5±1.3%로 가장 높은 높이를 보였다. 좌 · 우 발끝 속도에서는 E-2에서 각각 732.4±46.1cm/sec, 1958.4±625.1cm/sec로 가장 빠르게 나타났다. 상체후경각에서는 E-3에서 97.98degree로 가장 낮은 각도를 보였다. 슬관절 각변위에서는 E-3에서 좌 · 우 각각 69.2±5.7degree로 가장 낮은 각도를 보였다. 족관절 각변위에서는 E-3에서 좌 · 우 각각 171.3±6.9degree로 가장 큰 각도를 보였다. 이런 결과로 볼 때, Ring jump동작을 수행하기 위해서는 족관절의 신전을 통한 높은 점프로 상체를 후경할 수 있는 유연성과 체공을 시간을 갖추는 것이라고 사료된다. The study has a goal that produces abundant documents that needed for athletes to teach and progress skills by analyzing 3-dimensional action analysis of C-difficulties Ring jump included in body original elements among techniques constructing Rhythmic Sport Gymnastics. 1. It was the longest applied time delay that E-3 indicates 0.409±0.017sec in each event applied time delay. 2. It was the tallest height that E-3 indicates 88.5±1.3% in displacement of body's center. 3. It was the fastest velocity in E-2 where the velocity of left foot is 7.32.4±46.1cm/sec, the velocity of right foot is 1958.4±25.1cm/sec. 4. the lowest angle was founded at 97.8 degree in the E-3 on the trunk extension angle. 5. The lowest angle of both sides were seen at 92.8±14.9degree and 69.2±5.7degree in the E-3 on the each displacement of knee joint. 6. The highest angle of both sides were seen at 171.3±6.9degree and 167.9±8.4degree in the E-3 on the each displacement of ankle joint As a result of these studies, by jumping with ankle joint extension to accomplish the Ring jump action, it is considered to have the time of flexiblity and staying in the air which we can see in a back.

        A Study on the Perceived Health Status, Activities of Daily Living, Depression for the Elderly at Nursing Homes

        The purpose of this study was to investigate perceived health status, activities of daily living and depression of the elderly in nursing facilities and to identify correlations among them. The collected data is to improve healthy life for the aged people in communities. This study was performed by using of questionnaire which was consisted of perceived health status, activity of daily living(ADL) and depression. The survey was conducted by 180 aged people at nursing homes. The results of perceived health status show that 64.9% of elderly feel very bad or bad, 61.6% of elderly have a degree of independent level of activity of daily living(ADL) and 48.6% of elderly have a degree of depression. There were statically revealed meaningful correlation between ability of activity of daily living(ADL) and perceived health status, ability of activity of daily living(ADL) and depression. This study about connection among perceived health status, activity of daily living(ADL) and depression is necessary for number of the affiliation function of elderly at nursing homes and development of intervention programs concerned about depression are necessary.

        Tautomycetin inhibits growth of colorectal cancer cells through p21cip/WAF1 induction via the extracellular signal-regulated kinase pathway.

        <P>Tautomycetin is an antifungal antibiotic retaining potent immunosuppressive function. We have identified the roles of tautomycetin on cellular proliferation and transformation of colorectal cancer cells. The proliferation and anchorage-independent growth of HCT-15, HT-29, and DLD-1 colorectal cancer cells were efficiently inhibited without induction of apoptosis by 150 nmol tautomycetin. These growth inhibitory effects were dependent on p21Cip/WAF induction via the extracellular signal-regulated kinase pathway, and the tautomycetin effects were abolished in HCT-116 colon cells and eight other types of cells that did not induce p21Cip/WAF by 150 nmol tautomycetin. The crucial role of p21Cip/WAF1 in the extracellular signal-regulated kinase pathway-dependent antiproliferative responses by tautomycetin was confirmed by using p21Cip/WAF1 gene-deleted HCT-116 cells. The growth inhibitory effect of tautomycetin was acquired by regulation of Raf-1 activity through inhibition of protein phosphatase type 1 and protein phosphatase type 2A with high preference toward protein phosphatase type 1. Tautomycetin could be a potential drug for colorectal cancer.</P>

        Induced Phenotype Targeted Therapy: Radiation-Induced Apoptosis-Targeted Chemotherapy

        <P><B>Background:</B></P><P>Tumor heterogeneity and evolutionary complexity may underlie treatment failure in spite of the development of many targeted agents. We suggest a novel strategy termed induced phenotype targeted therapy (IPTT) to simplify complicated targets because of tumor heterogeneity and overcome tumor evolutionary complexity.</P><P><B>Methods:</B></P><P>We designed a caspase-3 specific activatable prodrug, DEVD-S-DOX, containing doxorubicin linked to a peptide moiety (DEVD) cleavable by caspase-3 upon apoptosis. To induce apoptosis locally in the tumor, we used a gamma knife, which can irradiate a very small, defined target area. The in vivo antitumor activity of the caspase-3–specific activatable prodrug combined with radiation was investigated in C3H/HeN tumor-bearing mice (n = 5 per group) and analyzed with the Student’s <I>t</I> test or Mann-Whitney U test. All statistical tests were two-sided. We confirmed the basic principle using a caspase-sensitive nanoprobe (Apo-NP).</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>A single exposure of radiation was able to induce apoptosis in a small, defined region of the tumor, resulting in expression of caspase-3. Caspase-3 cleaved DEVD and activated the prodrug. The released free DOX further activated DEVD-S-DOX by exerting cytotoxic effects on neighboring tumor or supporting cells, which repetitively induced the expression of caspase-3 and the activation of DEVD-S-DOX. This sequential and repetitive process propagated the induction of apoptosis. This novel therapeutic strategy showed not only high efficacy in inhibiting tumor growth (14-day tumor volume [mm<SUP>3</SUP>] vs radiation alone: 848.21±143.24 vs 2511.50±441.89, <I>P</I> < .01) but also low toxicity to normal cells and tissues.</P><P><B>Conclusion:</B></P><P>Such a phenotype induction strategy represents a conceptually novel approach to overcome tumor heterogeneity and complexity as well as to substantially improve current conventional chemoradiotherapy with fewer sequelae and side effects.</P>
