• Control of Cascaded H-Bridges STATCOM based on the Power Flow Management

        Ping-Heng Wu,Chia-Tse Lee,Hsin-Chin Chen,Po-Tai Cheng 전력전자학회 2015 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2015 No.6

As smart grid techniques are getting more positive perspective and expected to grow in the future, the STATic synchronous COMpensator (STATCOM) has become one of the most important roles to manage the power flow and regulate the grid voltage. The Modular Multilevel Cascaded Converter (MMCC) based on single star bridge cell (SSBC) is very suitable for STATCOM application at the medium-voltage level in the power system. The dc capacitors voltage balancing control is a critical issue to secure the stable operation of MMCCSSBC converter. Four different control methods based on power flow analysis have been considered. The performance of each controller is evaluated under steady state or even Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) operation. Each controller has its power flow management and its feature. Experimental test results are given to verify these control methods can well regulated the dc bus voltages under the unbalanced grid voltages.

Lytic Bacteriophage as a Biomaterial to Prevent Biofilm Formation and Promote Neural Growth

        Liu Zi-Hao,Chiang Ming-Tse,Lin Hsin-Yi 한국조직공학과 재생의학회 2022 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.19 No.5

BACKGROUND Although non-lytic filamentous bacteriophages have been made into biomaterial to guide tissue growth, they had limited ability to prevent bacterial infection. In this work a lytic bacteriophage was used to make an antibacterial biomaterial for neural tissue repair. METHODS Lytic phages were chemically bound to the surface of a chitosan film through glutaraldehyde crosslinking. After the chemical reaction, the contact angle of the sample surface and the remaining lytic potential of the phages were measured. The numbers of bacteria on the samples were measured and examined under scanning electron microscopy. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to observe the phages and phage-infected bacteria. A neuroblast cell line was cultured on the samples to evaluate the sample’s biocompatibility. RESULTS The phages conjugated to the chitosan film preserved their lytic potential and reduced 68% of bacterial growth on the sample surface at 120 min (p\0.001). The phage-linked surface had a significantly higher contact angle than that of the control chitosan (p\0.05). After 120 min a bacterial biofilm appeared on the control chitosan, while the phagelinked sample effectively prevented biofilm formation. The TEM images demonstrated that the phage attached and lysed the bacteria on the phage-linked sample at 120 min. The phage-linked sample significantly promoted the neuroblast cell attachment (p\0.05) and proliferation (p\0.01). The neuroblast on the phage-linked sample demonstrated more cell extensions after day 1. CONCLUSION The purified lytic phages were proven to be a highly bioactive nanomaterial. The phage-chitosan composite material not only promoted neural cell proliferation but also effectively prevent bacterial growth, a major cause of implant failure and removal.

Final report on APMP.M.F-K4.b key comparison for 2 MN force

        Ueda, Kazunaga,Bartel, Thomas W,Liok, Goh Hok,Hsin-Tse, Lee,Man, John,Park, Yon-Kyu,Wong, Seung-yin Springer-Verlag 2012 METROLOGIA -BERLIN- Vol.49 No.-

This report gives the results of the APMP.M.F-K4.b key comparison in 2 MN force range. This regional key comparison was conducted under the Asia Pacific Metrology Program (APMP) to establish a link to the global CCM.F-K4.b key comparison.

Seven institutes participated in this key comparison. The National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ/AIST) served as the pilot institute. The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) together with NMIJ/AIST provided links to the CCM.F-K4.b key comparison. A pair of force transducers having 2 MN nominal capacities was circulated among the participants in a star formation.

This regional key comparison revealed that all measurement results of the seven participants are coherent with the CCM.F-K4.b key comparison reference value within their uncertainties and that these participants are equivalent to each other.

Main text.To reach the main text of this paper, click on Final Report. Note that this text is that which appears in Appendix B of the BIPM key comparison database kcdb.bipm.org/.

The final report has been peer-reviewed and approved for publication by the CCM, according to the provisions of the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA).
