        Design and Simulation of Foundation Technology for Zigbee-based Smart Grid Home Network System using OPNET Simulation

        The Internet of Things (IoT) and the Smart Grid both are being discussed as the technologies that would dominate Korean IT industry by 2020. The PLC, Zigbee, NFC, ANT, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and RFID are considered to be the foundation technologies for the Smart Grid and in this paper, we propose a Zigbee-based Smart Grid Home Network System. A comparative analysis has been carried out by performing additional Mobile WiMAX-based simulations with respect to the research paper published in the conference proceedings and we confirmed that all the proposed system worked normally. Although the simulation results showed that the Mobile WiMAX has a better capability than Zigbee, the latter has more advantages in terms of scalability and the possibility of reducing the battery size as it features low-cost and low-power characteristics. As a standard technology for the low-cost and low-power oriented networks, the scalability can be achieved by its low-cost characteristic (i.e., many Zigbee equipments can be installed widely) and the size of battery can be reduced its low-power use characteristic. Considering the operating life, we’ve concluded that Zigbee could be more efficient for certain areas. The proposed foundation technology used for the system in this paper can be adapted to various areas of the IoT. Thus, in this paper, the OPNET Modeler 14.5 PL8, Zigbee-based scenario and WiMAX-based scenario had been used for the designing and simulations of both systems. We expect that it would be possible to apply the technology to a variety of fields of health-care, building and facility management, accident and disaster monitoring and meteorological observation as well.

        Digitalization of Seafarer's Book for Authentication and e-Navigation

        Currently, the crew working on a ship is required to carry a seafarer's book in most countries around the world,including the Republic of Korea (ROK). Yet, many fishermen working in the international waters of the ROKdo not abide by this rule as the procedure of obtaining it is rather inconvenient or they do not understand thenecessity or the benefits of having it. Also, as the regulation of carrying the certificate has been strengthened, itis important for them to avoid making a criminal record unintentionally. This study discusses the digitalizationof the seafarer’s book based on several security measures in addition to BLE Beacon-based positioningtechnology, which can be useful for the e-Navigation. Normally, seamen’s certificates are recorded by thecaptain, medical institution, or issuing authority and then kept in an onboard safe or a certificate cabinet. Thematerial of the certificates is a cloth that can withstand salinity as the certificate could be contaminated by mold. In the past, the captains and their crews were uncooperative when the ROK’s maritime police tried to inspectseveral ships simultaneously because of the time and cost involved. Thus, a system with which the maritimepolice will be able to conveniently manage the crews is proposed.

        GPS-Based Augmented Reality System of Past TopographyUsing Antique Maps

        Although it has been considered that antique maps have significant means in the field of liberal arts and are of important cultural heritage that contains valuable scientific signals of past ages, available foundational technologies that analyze such signals and use these for further study are scarce. For this reason, the technology which allows comparisons between past and present topographies and structures of the same area was developed using GPS and constructing systemized databases for both antique and current maps. For the development, a GPS-based augmented reality has been employed to schematize topographies and features described on an antique map. For the calculations and estimations, reference points have been created. This application is written with Java Android and can be installed on Smart Phones and GPS. More subtle geographical elements or features are expected to be found with this proposed technology which supplements modern surveying techniques. The costs involved in the analysis process will be reduced despite of its precision results. Moreover, the commercial value of the proposed technology will be increase widely once it has been improved for an introduction to market.

      • Typhoid Vi Capsular Polysaccharide Vaccine의 임상시험에 관한 연구

        목적 : 장티푸스 예방 접종 중 살모넬라 Ty2 균주에서 강력한 항원성을 갖는 Vi 협막성 다당질항원을 분리 정제한 백신이 국내에서 개발된 바 그 효능과 부작용에 대하여 알아보고자 이 연구를 시행하였다. 대상 및 방법 : 1993년 4월부터 1995년 4월까지 주식회사 녹십자의 타이포박스®를 경남 울산군소재 애리원생 86명을 대상으로 접종 전과 접종 후 1개월, 3개월 및 12개월에 혈액 3㎖를 채취하여 혈청을 분리하고, 이를 녹십자 종합연구소에 의뢰하여 수동혈구응집반응법(passive hemagglutination)으로 Vi 항체가를 측정하였다 결과 : 예방 접종 후 Vi 항체의 양성율은 1개월에 96.5%(검사 대상 86례 중 83례), 3개월에 96.5%(86례 중 83례), 12개월에 96.4%(86례 중 81례)였으며 부작용으로는 경미한 국소 발적 반응과 경한 통증이 각각 5례, 경한 발열이 2례에서 있었다. 결론 : Vi 협막성 다당질 항원을 분리 정제한 타이포박스®는 접종 후 높은 항체가와 경미한 부작용을 나타내어 장티푸스 예방 접종 주사로서의 임상적 가치가 높다고 사료된다. Purpose : Recently, Vi capsular polysaccharide from Salmonella typhi Ty2 has been purified and manufactured as a vaccine(Typhovax®, Korea Green Cross) in Korea. To evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of Vi capsular polysaccharide vaccine this study was performed. Methods : A single dose of 0.5㎖(25㎍) was injected subcutaneously to 86 persons aged 8-44 years. Anti-Vi antibody titers were measured by passive hemagglutinarion test before and 1, 3, and 12 months after vaccination. Results : The rate of seroconversion was 96.5% at 1 month after vaccination. The antibody titers were sustained for at least 12 months. Transient local reactions, including pain and erythema, were noted in 5 cases(5.8%) and mild fever was developed in two cases(2.3%). Conclusions : To see whether this acquired level of Vi antibody titers protects infection from typhoid fever and the elevated level of Vi antibody titers persists, further clinical and epidemiological studies would be required.

        A Design of Foundation Technology for PLC-based Smar t-gr ave(Tumulus) System

        In the Republic of Korea, there’s been a culture called ‘Hyo’ since Koryo Dynasty and this word represents the meaning of paying utmost respects to one’s own parents and ancestors whether they are alive or have passed. However, nowadays, most of people live away from their family gravesites so that they do not and cannot take care of them except on the special holidays. For this reason, people could not respond promptly to the incidents occurred at the sites as they receive notifications much later dates most of the time. Thus, in this paper, we propose a low-cost gravesite monitoring system which the users can immediately respond to the disastrous events after being informed of current situations through PLC without delay. For the performance evaluation, the lab and test bed experiments were performed on an actual ship using 200Mbps and 500Mbps products instead of performing an on-site experiment after the system has actually been constructed. The Mountain Region PLC was installed on the power lines and the result showed successful 36.14Mbps communication. Therefore, we expect that this study will contribute in time and cost reduction while constructing the internet infrastructures in mountain regions or building the Smart-graves, tumulus, and charnel houses.

        Implementation of the PLC-based Foundation Technology of Electric Power Control/Monitoring for Micro Grid

        Recently, in the Republic of Korea, Smart Grid, Micro Grid and IoT (Internet of Things) are at the center of discussion. Accordingly, various companies are competing to take the advantageous position by preoccupying technical patents and establishing their own standards to become a platform company for the Smart Homes, completing individual test bed experiments at the Smart Grid test beds Complex in Jeju Island. However, despite of a variety of product lines introduced to the market, their capacities are rarely being discussed academically and remain as popular subjects of study these days. Current research trend in both domestic and foreign studies has been focused on the subjects related to wireless communication technologies like WiFi and Zigbee or a typical cable communication technology like LAN, although the wireless communication technologies are now favoured more in terms of usability and cost-effectiveness as they do not require additional wiring works. That being said, at the last phase of Smart Home operation, one may encounter the problems in their reliability due to signal interference and attenuation and of course, it is not conceivable to use a cable-type communication like LAN for the Smart Homes. Thus, in this paper, we have implemented a foundation technology for the Micro Grid using the PLC technology. Proposed technology is fundamental to Smart Metering System which monitors, controls, and manages the household power flows, forming essential part of the Micro Grid system. The PLC technology applied here does not require extra installation works as it uses existing 220V power line(s) to transmit data so that we expect that it would supplement both wireless and cable-based methods.

      • 태권도 경기력 및 운동수행능력과 PNF운동

        Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate PNF exercise, the athletic performances and the ability of exercise capacity in Taekwondo. Methods : This is a literature study with books and articles, seminar note and books for PNF international course. Results : The PNF exercise was efficient at improving flexibility and muscle strengthening in Taekwondo athletes. Kinematic characters of Yupchagi and Dollyuchagi in Taekwondo were analogous to Lower extremity Flexion-Abduction-Internal Rotation patterns in PNF, and the kinematic character of Apchagi was to analogous to Lower extremity Flexion-Adduction-External Rotation pattern in PNF. Movements of Upper extremities and Lower extremities during kicking were similar to PNF patterns. The PNF is efficient at improving athletic performances and the ability of exercise capacity in Taekwondo. Conclusion : The result of this study showed that PNF patterns and kicking that is one of the basic movement in Taekwondo have many similarities. With that PNF patterns was the training methods to improve flexibility and muscle strengthening, PNF patterns are considered to improve athletic performances and the ability of exercise capacity in Taekwondo.
