Production of Ginkgolides and Bilobalide from Optimized the Ginkgo biloba Cell Culture
최명석,김선원,정영관,박용구,Su-Jung Kim,Young-Min Kang,Hee-Young Jung,D. Theertha Prasad 한국생물공학회 2004 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.9 No.1
The influence of various culture conditions on growth and ginkgolides (GKA and GKB), and bilobalide formation in callus and suspension cultures of Ginkgo biloba were investigated. Callus induced from the leaf petioles exhibited distinct morphological and physiological responses. The cell biomass and ginkgolides content varied among the cell lines; brownish callus lines produced high levels of ginkgolides and bilobalide in spite of poor cell growth. Among the culture media used, MS medium showed significant effect on cell growth and ginkgolides production. Low concentration of sucrose (3%) improved cell growth, while higher sucrose levels (5 and 7%) improved ginkgolides production. Cultivation of callus cultures above 28oC dramatically reduced their growth rate; however the cell lines grown at 36oC showed increased levels of bilobalide content. A 2.5-L balloon type bubble bioreactor (BTBB) was successfully developed for the cell growth and ginkgolides production.

Congenital bronchoesophageal fistula is a rare anomaly that can appear in adult life uncommonly. There was a largest review that include 100 cases in the literature. In our case, he was 48 years old male patient who admitted for chronic coughing and recurrent lobar pneumonia on the right lower lobe since 10 years old. We could confirmed the fistular preoperatively by barium swallow examination and performed division of the fistula. The patient’s postoperative course was unremarkable. According Braimbridge’s classification, it was belonged to the type II.
한국자생 음나무집단 및 채취부위에 따른 Kalosaponin 함량 변이

The concentrations of 4 kalosaponins from tissues of Kalopanax septemlobus (Thunb.)Koidz grown in 7 provenances in Korea were determined by HPLC. Kalosaponin contents in plant part were much higher in the inner bark(30.59 mg/g on the dry weight basis) than those of young leaves(22.74 mg/g on the dry weight basis) and root bark(18.02 mg/g on the dry weight basis). A considerable range of variation in the contents was observed among population. The kalosaponin contents in inner bark from each population were highest in the Mt. Barwang (30.37 mg/g on the dry weight basis) followed by Mt. Gariwang, Hanra II, Mangun, Paltan, and Hanra I population. A variation of kalosaponin contents among population may be affected by both environmental and genetic factors. Establishment of selection and propagation of high kalosaponin containing trees can be a good source for the development of valuable forest products.

Hamartoma had been considered as a congenital malformation of a tumerous lesion since the original description by Albrecht in 1904. Pulmonary hamartoma is able to classified as endobronchial and intrapulmonary hamartoma clinically, and is considered to benign mesenchymal neoplasms which originated in peribronchial connective tissue, and so called mesenchymoma by someone. We have experienced 3 cases intrapulmonary hamartoma which were discovered during routine chest film check up at all cases and are able to detailed histologic examination by electron microscopy at one case.
Enzymatic Release of Ferulic Acid from Ipomoea batatas L. (Sweet Potato) Stem

Ferulic acid is a phenolic compound that serves as a major biosynthetic precursor of vanillin in higher plants. We investigated the ability of the 3 commercial enzymes - Ultraflo L, Viscozyme L, and α-Amylase - to induce the release ferulic acid from the Ipomoea batatas L. (sweet potato) stem. The rate of release for ferulic acid was optimal when Ultraflo L (1.0%) was used compared with the other enzymes, whereas Viscozyme L was most effective for the release of vanillic acid and vanillin. Thus, these enzymes may be useful for the large-scale production of ferulic acid and other phenolic compounds from sweet potato stem.

This experiment was designed to assess the physical and chemical properties of growingmedia substituted with a range of increasing concentrations of pretreated wood and to relatethese properties to plant growth responses. For preparing the growing media, each material wascombined with rural soil, peat, perlite and pretreated wood. Physicochemical properties studiedwere similar to ideal substrate ranges for plant growth on growing media, including pretreatedwood. Physical properties were also well maintained over time. In comparison to plants growingin 100% rural soil, tall fescue(Festuca arundinacea) in the prepared growing media achievedbetter growth, especially when using the 50% rural soil + 50% PPW(peat + perlite + pretreatedwood, 3:1:6(w/w/w)) and 30% rural soil + 70% PPW (peat + perlite + pretreated wood,3:1:6(w/w/w)), and showed improved germination percentage. We confirmed the potential use ofgrowing media, including pretreated wood. Furthermore, our results show a correlation amongthe physicochemical properties of tall fescue(Festuca arundinacea); physical properties weresignificantly influenced by germination and aerial parts. The root length of physicochemicalproperties was correlated with bulk density and organic compound (p<0.01).
