장편영화 <인 드림즈> 제작보고서 : 공동연출에 의한 기획 연구

본 연구자는 2021년 3월 동국대학교 영상대학원 영화영상제작학과 영화기획 전공에 입학하여 영상대학원 워크샵(workshop)작품 <낯선 아버지와 아들> (연출 주완의, 2021), <인 드림즈> (연출 관동휘, 2021), <닿을 수 없는 거리> (연출 김정호, 2022)의 제작 및 메인 프로듀서로 참여 하였다. 해당 보고서는 OTT 장편영화 <인 드림즈>의 제작보고서이다. 영화는 고등학교 시절 사건으로 인해 트라우마가 있는 여자 주인공이 꿈속의 남자를 찾기 위해 몽신과 거래하는 이야기를 다룬다. 이 영화는 권동휘, 원필, 유우현, 황하민 등 4명의 감독이 공동연출하였다. 이는 영화 제작 과정에서는 보기 드문 것으로 본 연구자는 권동휘 감독 팀의 메인 프로듀서로 영화에 참여해 공동연출에 의한 기획 연구를 했다. 과학기술의 발전과 사회의 진보에 따라 합작과 효율은 현대 사회 업무에서 없어서는 안 될 일부가 되었다. 영화, 드라마, 연극 등 예술 분야에서는 창작자의 개인성과 독특성이 중요하더라도 제작환경이 급변하면서 시청률 위주의 편성시간 늘이기는 연출자의 노동량을 증가시켰고, 그 해소 방안으로 정착된 공동연출 시스템은 연출 업무의 분업화를 가져왔다. 공동연출 시스템의 등장은 영화와 텔레비전 발전의 필수 과정이다. 현재 한국 드라마 제작 과정에서 공동연출 시스템은 잘 발달해 활용되고 있다. 드라마 제작 시간을 획기적으로 절약해 효율성을 높였다. 반면 한국 영화 제작 과정에서는 과거에도 공동 연출한 작품이 적지 않았지만, 예를 들어, <어쩌다, 결혼>, <마스터 클래스의 산책>, <미싱타는 여자들>등. 다만 드라마에 비해 덜 발전적이고 활용도가 떨어진다. 드라마에 비해 영화 길이가 짧고 예술성이 높아 공동 감독의 작품에서 영화적 통일이 없고 감독 개인의 예술성을 부각하기 어렵다는 단점이 있기 때문이다. 하지만 공동연출 시스템은 할리우드에서 이미 널리 활용되고 있다. 요즘 중국에서도 엄청 유행한다. 중국 영화시장의 큰 환경적 영향을 따라 프로젝트 추진의 효율성을 더욱 추구하려는 욕구를 충족시키기 위해 더 많은 영화들이 공동연출을 채택하고 있다. 구체적으로 보면 코로나19로 인한 장기간의 불가역적 충격, 현금 흐름의 막힘 등의 문제가 겹치면서 시장에서의 공급 부족에 대한 갈등이 증폭됐고, 이에 따라 적지 않은 영화들이 왕성한 시장 수요를 충족시키기 위해 그동안의 창작 주기를 단축하고 '시효성'을 더욱 중시해야 했다. 이런 상태가 단기적으로 크게 달라지지는 않을 것이다. 따라서 본 연구자는 영화 <인 드림즈>의 제작과정을 분석하여 공동연출 영화의 제작방법, 제작 특징과 제작과정에서의 문제점을 총결산하여 나중에 공동연출 영화의 발전에 참고가 되고자 하기로 한다. With the development of technology and the progress of society, cooperation and efficiency have become an indispensable part of modern social work. In artistic fields such as film, drama, and play, although the individuality and uniqueness of the creators are of great importance, the drastic change of the production environment has increased the complexity of time scheduling which mainly based on ratings. In order to lighten the burden of the director, the co-director system emerged and brought the function division of the directing. The emergence of the co-director system is a necessary process for the development of film and television industry. The co-director system has been well developed and applied in the production process of Korean dramas. The production time has been shortened greatly and the efficiency has been improved. Although there used to be many co-directed Korean film works in the past, the development and utilization of co-director system in film production are less mature compared with dramas. The film needs to express higher artistry within less duration, which means in a co-director system, it is difficult to keep the unity of the film and experss director's personal artistry. In foreign film industry like China, with the influence of the general environment of the Chinese film market, in order to meet the desire to further pursue the efficiency of project promotion, the co-director mode has become a common approach. Specifically, with the superposition of the long-term irreversible impact and cash flow blockage caused by the new COVID-19, the contradiction between supply and demand of the market has intensified which makes many films had to shorten the production cycle in order to meet the market demand in higher efficiency. The feature film "In Dreams" was co-directed by four directors. In Korea, feature film directed by more than two directors are extremely rare. This production report is aiming to analyze the co-director production process of the OTT feature film "In Dreams". In this article, we first gave the definition the co-directing, and then we explored the development of the co-directing system, summarized the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of the co-director system, how is the co-directing work generally allocated for the shooting part, and finally analyzed several co-directing works in detail. In addition, the production process of "In Dreams" is divided into the planning stage, the pre-production stage, the production stage, the promotion and marketing stage. The process of each stage was analyzed from the co-director's producer's aspect, and the expects and results of each stage were compared and analyzed. We gave a comprehensive summary of this article in conclusion part, reviewed the purpose of the research, and sought answers to the questions raised in the introduction part.
