To evaluate the influence of brain injury(cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, head injury due to traffic accident) on the thyroid funtion test, T_(3), T_(4), TSH, FT_(4), FT_(3), T_(3)RU, TBG, rT_(3), and FT_(4)I were measured in the 54 clinically euthyroid patients with brain injury. The results are summurized as follows : 1. The serum T_(3) concentration was significantly -lower in patients with brain injury(45.50±12ng/㎗) than in the control group(136.0±14ng/㎗) 2. The serum T_(4) concentration in patients with brain injury(6.18±4.0/㎍/㎗) was slightly diminished but not significantly lower than in the control group(7.7±1.3㎍/㎗) 3. The serum rT_(3) concentration in patients with brain injury(51. 66±13.0ng/㎗) was significantly higher than in the control group(26. 86±14ng/㎗) 4. The serum FT_(4) concentration in patients with brain injury(2.03±0. 4ng/㎗) was slightly increased but not significantly higher than in che control group(1.71±0.4ng/㎗) 5. The T_(3)RU was significantly higher in the patients group(32.33±7. 4%) than in the control group(28.31±8.2%) 6. The FT_(4)I was slightly diminished but not significantly lower in the patients group(2.04±1.5) than in the control group(2.50±0.5) 7. The serum TSH concentration in patients with brain injury(3.83±0.8uIu/㎖) and in the control group(3.40±1.1ulu/㎖) were not significantly different in 87% of patients with brain injury. Thc serum TSH concentration was within normal range. 8. The serum TBG concentration in the patients group(16.48±5.6㎍/㎖) was significantly lower than in the control group (20.07±2.8㎍/㎖)
