        척수경색 환자의 보행불가 증상에 대한 한의복합치료 1례

        Spinal cord infarction is one of the rare strokes with no clear signs of serious nerve damage or after-effects. This study reports on the effectiveness of a combined treatment of Korean medicine and acupuncture on bilateral paraplegia, dysuria, and constipation in a patient with sudden-onset spinal cord infarction. An 84-year-old male patient was diagnosed with spinal cord infarction in August 2022. After diagnosis by whole spine MRI, he received treatment for two months at another hospital, but the improvement was insignificant. He then received Korean medicine treatment, and during this period, his lower extremity manual muscle test grade improved from 3 to 4 and his modified Rivermead mobility index score increased by 13 points, compared with hospitalization. Dysuria improved with acupuncture, and constipation improved with herbal medicine treatment. A combination of herbal medicine and acupuncture can be used to treat paraplegia, dysuria, and constipation caused by spinal cord infarction.

      • 소각재에 함유된 중금속성분의 농도 분석

        The disposal of municipal solid waste is a serious problem in Korea and throughout the world General diposal methods-incineration or dumping in landfills-creat more problems than they could be solved. Incineration generates toxic ashes and gase, and landfills will soon reach capacity and do not gurarantee the safe containment of harmful substances. Recently the fly ash has been classified as hazardous waste and diposal is no longer allowed unless it is treated by new law, the bottom ash also has become a very controversial issue due to their harmfulness. Sampling and analysis of ash at the three MSW incinerators was performed to determine if beneficial use could be made of this material. According to the results of analysis with HELOS, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry, and ICP-MS, bottom ashes included only 8.8% of PM-10 and Fly ashes, on the other hand, included approximately 50% which represented a very dangerous level. Among 17 heavy metals, tested Pb was detected to the extent harmful to human body, while the rest were discovered relatively to be lower level compared to Po.

      • 사람과 토끼에서 tocopherol 투여가 high density lipoprotein subfraction과 lipoprotein pattern에 미치는 영향

        The effect of tocopherol on serum high density lipoprotein(HDL) subfraction and lipoprotein pattern was evaluated in human and rabbit. Twenty three college women on a self-selected diet were given 800 IU tocopherol daily for 4 weeks, and white young rabbits (male) were fed chow diet supplemented with the different dietary fat at 10%(w/w) with or without tocopherol 1,800 ㎎/㎏ diet for 4 weeks. No significant change was noted in the relative amount of HDL. low density lipoprotein and very low density lipoprotein fractions separated by electrophoresis of both human and rabbit serum. In human, HDL-chol fractionated by polyanionic precipitation was slightly increased at 4 week by a significant increase in HDL2-cholesterol but no significant change in HDL3-cholesterol. which resulted in a significant increase of HDL2:HDL3 ratio. However, no significant effect by tocopherol supplement could be observed in rabbit, and tocopherol supplement could improve HDL2:HDL3 ratio when high polyunsaturated fatty acid diet was fed to rabbit. Serum triglyceride and total cholesterol were slightly reduced both in human and rabbit by tocopherol supplement.

      • 사람과 쥐에서 식이내 n6 와 n3 불포화지방산이 혈장 지질조성에 미치는 영향

        To compare the plasma lipid-lowering effect of dietary n6 and n3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) in human and rats, ten college women were divided into 5 groups and treated for 5 weeks with 1 week interval between treatments and subjects serving as their own controls. Male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups and fed the experimental diets for 6 weeks. The experimental diets were corn oil diet for n6 linoleic acid, perilla oil diet for n3 α-linolenic acid and fish oil diet for n3 eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid(DHA). Dietary fat was supplied at 30% Cal and modified to give the total amount of satu-rated fatty acid(SFA) and monoenoic acid(MEA)at constant level. In human, there was no significant effect on plasma cholesterol (Chol)level by different PUFA. However, on a gram­for­gram basis, there was a trend that the decrease in plasma Chol was proportionate to the degree of fat unsaturation. HDL―Chol content was significantly increased only in fish oil diet but no change in the relative proportion of its chemical components of HDL. In rat, plasma Chol and HDL―Chol levels were significantly lowered by fish oil than corn oil and perilla oil. Plasma Chol―lowering effect in human and rats was greater by n3 EPA and DHA than n6 linoleic acid. Plasma triglyceride(TG)level in human was significantly lowered only in fish oil diet but no significant effect on the relative proportion of TG in VLDL. Plasma TG in rats was significantly decreased by both perilla oil and fish oil than by corn oil. Therefore, plasma TG―lowering effect was in the order of n3 EPA+DHA>n3 α­linolenic acid >n6 linoleic acid. In conclusion, perilla oil and fish oil which contain n3 series PUFA may have important nutritional benefit in the prevention and treatment of atherosclerotic disease.

      • 어유와 pectin의 혈장 cholesterol 저하 효과에 관한 비교연구

        The present study was designed to compare the mechanism of plasma cholesterol lowering effect of fish oil and pectin by measuring the levels of plasma lipids, hepatic cholesterol and HMG CoA reductase activity and fecal excretion of total bile acids and neutral sterol in rats. Male Sprague Dawley fats (7 weeks-old) were divided into three groups according to their fat sources, beef tallow(BT), corn oil(CO), and fish oil(FO) and then each group subdivided into three groups again depending on fiber(cellulose or pectin and fiber-free as control). Rats were fed the experimental diet containing dietary fat at 15%(w/w) and fiber at 6%(w/w) level for 20 weeks. Fish oil significantly reduced the levels of plasma total cholesterol, VLDL-Chol, LDL-Chol and HDL-Chol. Fish oil inhibited hepatic HMG CoA reductase activity compared to those of other dietary fat(p<0.05). Compared to cellulose, pectin significantly reduced the levels of plasma total cholesterol, VLDL-Chol and LDL-Chol but increased HDL -Chol level in all dietary fat groups. Pectin significantly increased the excretion of total neutral sterol in feces and lowered hepatic content of cholesterol. Pectin also significantly increased hepatic HMG CoA reductase activity. Overall, pectin could reduce plasma lipid level by interfering absorption of biliary cholesterol and bile acid, which resulting in the higher excretion of neutral sterol and bile acid in feces and increased hepatic cholesterol synthesis. However, fish oil reduced plasma lipid level by inhibiting HMG CoA reductase activity. Therfore, it is recommended to consume more fish and its product and vegetable source of dietary oil rich in ω-3 fatty acid and also more fruit and vegetable and grain product rich in fiber to reduce the risk factor against cardiovascular disease.
