Vol.23 No.1

The purpose of this study was to provide a fundamental information for enhancing 110m hurdlers` performance through conducting comparative biomechanical analysis between Skilled Group(SG) and Less- Skilled Group(LSG) those who are not in the first section of 110m hurdles. To persue the purpose of this study, total of 10 hurdlers participated. Then they were divided into two groups; SG: five hurdlers who have won awards with 14-second range at 2010 national track and field event, and LSG: five hudlers who did not win any awards with 15-second range. Three-dimensional motion analysis with 12 infrared cameras(Oqus 300, Qualisys) and 1 force plate(Type 9286AA, Kistler) was performed. From this study following conclusions were obtained. 1) For the overall runtime, SG revealed faster elapsed time than that of LSG. 2) At E4, LSG showed greater trunk angle than that of SG. 3) At E3 LSG revealed higher angular velocities than that of SG. 4) No significant differences was found for AP GRF between groups but LSG showed greater VGRF than that of SG.

A pilot study

Vol.26 No.3

The objective of this study was to utilize a new technique to reduce an athlete’s personal record time through the application of the 7-step approach. This approach is often used by elite, world-class hurdlers in men’s 110-m hurdle events. We performed a kinematic analysis of the 7-step approach and the universally accepted 8-step approach on the present Korean record holder in hurdles (13.43 s). Upon analyses, we derived the following conclusions for the 7-step approach: 1) elongated start technique was used at the start; 2) higher stride length and rate in the 7-step approach than in the 8step approach; 3) extended trunk lean angle in the sprint phase and increased angular velocity at takeoff; 4) the point at which the maximum horizontal velocity of the center of mass was; 5) at takeoff, the distance between the foot and the hurdle was greater and the center of mass was closer in the 7-step approach than in the 8step approach; 6) at the peak of flight, the height of the center of mass, horizontal velocity, and size of the trunk lean angle of the upper body were greater in the 7-step approach than in the 8-step approach; and 7) at landing, the distance between the center of mass and the foot was lesser in the 7step approach than in the 8-step approach.

Vol.41 No.3

This study analyzed the kinematic characteristics of 30m records using block starts among male university short-distance track and field athletes. Ten subjects were divided into two groups for comparative analysis: a 3-second group (age 19.40±1.67 years, height 180.80±3.83 cm, weight 74.94±4.72 kg, record 3.92±0.06 seconds) and a 4-second group (age 19.80±1.30 years, height 182.32±2.28 cm, weight 72.18±4.21 kg, record 4.13±0.12 seconds). Movements were measured using the Theia3D Markerless System and analyzed in a 3D joint coordinate system. Differences between groups were assessed by analyzing the time taken, the sagittal plane angular velocity, and the direction of 11 joints, as well as the position and velocity of the Center of Mass and total angular momentum. Independent T-tests and Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) were used for comparisons. The 3-second group exhibited a shorter standby position in the set position (p<.05), a lower Center of Mass at block starting (p<.05), and faster flexion angular velocity of the non-dominant arm’s elbow at block starting (p<.05). A difference was observed in the angular velocity of the non-dominant arm’s elbow at the 4-step propulsion point (p<.05). SPM analysis revealed newly mapped statistical domains in all categories except for total angular momentum variables in the P1 and P3 sections. Thus, maintaining a low Center of Mass and accelerating the non-dominant arm are effective strategies for a fast block start.

Vol.25 No.5

The asymmetry of lower muscle strength is a factor to induce injuries during physical activities. The purpose of this study was to investigate of effects of a 12-week Pilates exercise on the asymmetry of lower muscle strength. Eleven adults who performed Pilates exercise (TG: age: 22.0±1.2 years, height: 167.7±8.7 cm, body weight: 62.1±9.7 kg) and eleven adults who did not exercise (CG: age: 25.5±2.7 years, height: 174.3±7.7 cm, body weight: 72.1±14.7 kg) participated in this study. The left hip extension strength at TG was greater post-test than pre-test (p<.05). The knee strength at TG was greater post-test than pre-test (p<.05). The asymmetry index of hip joint muscle strength at TG was smaller post-test than pre-test(p<.05). Based on the findings, we affirmed that Pilates exercise had a significant effect on the lower muscle strength and the asymmetry of hip joint muscle strength.

Vol.35 No.4

PURPOSE This study analyzed the relationship between the center of pressure (CoP) trajectory area and ankle inversion/eversion movement across different walking speeds and established a new assessment method for predicting ankle instability. METHODS Twenty-seven healthy young adult males (20 yrs) performed treadmill walking trials at three speeds (slow, normal, and fast). Their cumulative CoP trajectory area and ankle inversion/eversion angles were analyzed, with particular focus on the third quadrant area (3QA). RESULTS During slow walking, mediolateral CoP range (p < .05) and 3QA (p < .05) increased significantly compared to normal and fast walking. Concurrently, ankle inversion/eversion angle (p < .05) and range of motion (p < .05) also increased. Furthermore, 3QA exhibited significant negative correlations with maximum ankle eversion angle (p = .001) and eversion angular velocity (p = .005). CONCLUSIONS This study provides findings that the CoP trajectory’s cumulative area, specifically 3QA, serves as a critical predictor of ankle joint eversion kinematics. These findings have potential implications for ankle instability assessment, prevention, footwear design, and rehabilitation protocols.

하성희 ( Sung He Ha ),류시현 ( Si Hyun Yoo ),김주년 ( Joo Nyeon Kim ),길호종 ( Ho Jong Gil ),류지선 ( Ji Seon Ryu ),윤석훈 ( Suk Hoon Yoon ),박상균 ( Sang Kyoon Park ) 한국운동역학회 2014 한국운동역학회지 Vol.24 No.2

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of combined exercise on injury risk factors of lower extremity during landing. Ten sports talented athletes participated in this study. Sports talented athletes participated in a combined exercise (sports talented exercise, coordination) for 16 weeks. A three-dimensional motion analysis was performed using eight infrared cameras (sampling rate of 100 Hz), one force plate, and electromyography system (sampling rate of 1000 Hz) during landing. Kinetic, and kinematics analysis including average impulsive force, angle of lower extremity, vertical stiffness, onset of muscle activation were calculated by Matlab2009a software. Paired t-test was performed at alpha=.05. The average impulsive force in landing phase was not statistically significant (t=-.748, p=.474). The hip joint angle was more decreased in post test compared to pre test (E1: t=2.682, p=.025, E2: t=5.609, p=.000, E3: t=2.538, p=.032). The knee joint (E1: t=-.343, p=.739, E2: t=1.319, p=.220, E3: t=.589, p=.570) and ankle joint (E1: t=.081, p=.937, E2: t=.784, p=.453, E3: t=.392, p=.704) angle were tended to decrease after combined exercise. The vertical stiffness was tended to decrease after combined exercise (t=1.972, p=.080). Onset of quadriceps femoris (t=.698, p=.503) and medial gastocnemius (t=1.858, p=.096) were tended to be faster than biceps femoris (t=-.333, p=.747) after combined exercise. Although thses findings were not statistically significant except on a hip joint angle, risk factors of lower extremity such as joint angle, vertical stiffness and onset of quadriceps femoris, medial gastrocnemius were positively changed after the combined exercise but an additional training for improved onset of biceps femoris would be required in the future.
