The extensive distribution of multidrug-resistant (MDR) methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) poses a threat to healthcare worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the MDR and molecular patterns of MRSA isolates in children admitted to the two biggest tertiary care pediatric hospitals in northern and southern Vietnam. A total of 168 MRSA strains were collected to determine antibiotic susceptibility by minimum inhibitory concentration tests. Antibiotic-resistant genes, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) typing, and multilocus sequence typing were used for the molecular characterization of MRSA. Among the total strains, the MDR rate (51.8%) was significantly higher in the northern hospital than in the southern hospital (73% vs. 39%, p < 0.0001). The MDR-MRSA with the highest rates were “ciprofloxacin-erythromycin-gentamicin-tetracyclines” (35.6%), followed by “erythromycin-tetracycline-chloramphenicol” (24.1%), and “ciprofloxacin-erythromycin-gentamicin” (19.5%), showing an accumulative total of 79.3%. The most susceptible antibiotics were rifampicin (100%) and vancomycin (100%), followed by doxycycline (94.0%), meropenem (78.0%), and cefotaxime (75.0%). The SCCmecII strains showed greater resistance to gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, meropenem and cephalosporins compared with the other strains. The SCCmecII strains exhibited the highest rate in the tested genes (aacA/aphD: 55.2%, ermA/B/C: 89.7%, and tetK/M: 82.8%). ST5-SCCmecII was the predominant clone in the northern hospital, whereas SCCmecIVa was more pronounced in the southern hospital. In conclusion, our results raised concerns about the predominant MDR-MRSA strains in the pediatric hospitals in Vietnam. The north-south difference in the antibiotic resistance patterns and genetic structure of MRSA suggests different MRSA origins and various uses of antimicrobial agents between the two regions.

In this study, we synthesize GAP-base particles as an adsorbent containing azide groups which are known as one of highly reactive groups and its ability to remove metal ions due to a strong coordination with these metal ions. The spherical particles containing azide groups are prepared by suspension method via a reaction of glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) and bis-propargyl succinate (BPS) and an aid of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Cu-free Click reaction occurs via azide groups of GAP and alkyne groups of BPS. The changing of agitation speed, concentration of PVA and content of organic phase affects to particle size and particle size distribution. The spherical shape and mechanical properties of particles are obtained by SEM and TGA, DMA, DSC measurements. The efficiency of removing metal ions is obtained by adsorption Hg2+ and Pb2+. Freundlich isotherm model is used to describe the adsorption process. GAP-base particle is the promising adsorbent for wastewater treatment containing metal ions.

Evidence shows that tobacco advertising and promotion activities may increase tobacco consumption and usage, especially in youth. Despite the regulation on prohibiting advertisement of any tobacco product, tobacco advertisement and promotion activities are still common in Vietnam. This article presents current exposure to tobacco advertising and promotion (TAP) among school children aged 13 to 15 years in Vietnam in 2014 and potential influencing factors. Data from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey 2014 in Vietnam covering 3,430 school aged children were used. Both descriptive and analytical statistics were carried out with Stata 13 statistical software. Binary logistic regression was applied to explain the exposure to TAP among youth and examine relationships with individual factors. A significance level of p<0.05 and sampling weights were used in all of the computations. In the past 30 days, 48.6% of the students experienced exposure to at least 1 type of tobacco advertising or promotion. Wearing or otherwise using products related to tobacco was the most exposure TAP type reported by students (22.3%). The internet (22.1), points of sales (19.2) and social events (11.5) were three places that students aged 13-15 frequently were exposed to TAP. Binary logistic results showed that gender (female vs male) (OR = 0.61, 95%CI: 0.52 - 0.71), susceptibility to smoking (OR = 2.12, 95%CI: 1.53 - 2.92), closest friends' smoked (OR = 1.43, 95%CI: 1.2 - 1.7) and parents smoking status (OR = 2.83, 95%CI: 1.6 - 5.01) were significantly associated with TAP exposure among school-aged children. The research findings should contribute to effective implementation of measures for preventing and controlling tobacco use among students aged 13-15 in Viet Nam.

<P>A new strategy has been developed for covalent incorporation of SiO2 nanoparticles (N-'s) in the CO2-based copolymer, poly(propylene carbonate-co-propylene oxide) (poly(PC-co-PO)). The poly(PC-co-PO)-g-SiO2 nanocomposites was prepared by the combination of epoxy-CO2 ring-opening polymerization and the condensation reaction of chloride and hydroxyl groups of the polymer and the SiO2 surface. FT-IR and NMR were employed for the characterization of the copolymers as well as nanocomposites. A uniform and spherical core-shell structure of poly(PC-co-PO)-g-SiO2 nanocomposites was demonstrated from TEM and SEM images. An improved thermal property of the polymer matrix with incorporating SiO2 nanoparticles was revealed by TGA study. The grafting of poly(PC-co-PO) considerably prevented the aggregation and improved the dispersibility of SiO2 nanoparticles in toluene.</P>

In this study, we synthesized GAP-based particles contain functional azide groups on the surface as a polymeric adsorbent applied to remove metal ions. The stable particles were prepared by suspension method. Glycidyl azide polymer was crosslinked by bis-propargyl succinate via Cu-free Click reaction. Effect of suspension parameters were studied on particle size and partilce size distribution to provide control size of particles. The presence of azide groups on particles was showed at 2097 cm-1 through FTIR result and its spherical morphology was observed by microscope measurement with different sizes from 0.25-1.4mm. TGA results showed high thermal stability of particles through high decomposition temperature at 240°C. Adsorption experiment was studied on Hg(II), Pb(II) metal ions. Freundlich isotherm model was used to describe the heterogeneous adsorption between particles and Pb(II) while Linear isotherm model predicted the adsorption process for Hg(II).

( Tran Thi Thuy Nga ),권영환 한국공업화학회 2018 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2018 No.0
Electrospinning technology is a simple and direct method for the fabrication of polymer nanofibers which are continuous polymer fibers ranging from several micrometers to several hundred nanometers. There are many types of nanofibers whose applications are in various fields, such as composites, protective clothing, biomedicines and drug delivery, filtration, and agriculture. In this study, the azide-containing nanofibers were fabricated using co-electrospinning PVAc/GAP/BPS solution, followed by Click reaction between GAP and BPS. The parameters of electrospinning process were controlled and then, click reaction was occurred at 50 °C. The morphology of nanofibers before and after click reaction were revealed by SEM result. In the future, we would like to point out the application of nanofiber in wastewater treatment by assembling nanofibers into membrane filtration, wherein PVAc nanofiber with azide functional groups as an adsorbent can remove heavy metal ions from contaminated water.

The Vietnamese economy is a developing country that has brought many opportunities and challenges for the banking system. Commercial banks have developed strongly from quality to quantity, which plays a vital role in developing the economy. They play an important role in capital formation, which is essential for the economic development of a country. They provide financial services to the general public and businesses, ensuring economic and social stability and sustainable growth of the economy. Therefore, the relationship between bank depth and economic growth is of importance in research. This paper used a VAR (Vector Autoregressive Models) estimator for time series data models. The data is collected quarterly from the first quarter of the year 2000 to 2020. The study uses the VAR model to examine the causal relationships of economic growth, growth in money supply expansion, private sector capital requirement, and banks' domestic credit. The results indicate a general short-run relationship between banking sector depth and economic growth with a positive connection, but in the long term, the relationship between these variables can be reversed because of other macro factors. The findings show the two-way causal relationship between GDP growth and banking depth factors. This research contributes to policy-making by underlining the banking sector depth determinants when setting regulations and policies to develop the banking sector.
