        The performance of cooling tower is dependent on the thermal performance of the packings. It's assessed by measuring packing characteristic values and pressure drops. In this study, a hybrid fill packing cooing tower is developed by combining the counter flow type fill packing with the cross flow type fill packing. Numerical investigation on the hybrid fill packing cooling tower has been done preliminary to experimental investigation. The result shows that cooling capacity on the hybrid fill packing cooling tower is higher than existing counter and cross flow type cooling tower as the experimental study. But The pressure drops on hybrid fill packing cooling tower are about 20% higher than other type cooling towers.

        역류식 충전탑에서 Raschig Super-ring Random Packing의 수력학적 특성에 대한 연구

        오늘날 석유화학, 정밀화학, 대기오염 방지산업 등에서 증류, 흡수, 추출, 탈거 등 물질분리 단위공정으로 주로 충전탑을 사용해 왔다. 충전탑은 가스-액체, 가스-가스 시스템에서의 물질들과의 접촉에 의해 운전되어 진다. 이러한 충전탑은 낮은 압력손실, 경제적 효율, 고온성 액체물질 적용, 유지보수 용이, 유해가스 처리 등의 운영에서 장점들을 가진다. 충전탑의 성능은 충진물을 통해 가스와 액체를 고르게 분산함으로써 우수한 성능을 보이며, 이는 충전탑 설계에 있어 중요한 인자로 고려되어진다. 본 실험에서는 충진물에 대한 액체부하 및 가스용량인자에 따른 건조압력손실, 수력학적 압력손실, 액체함량 변화에 대한 기하학적 특성에 대하여 연구하였다. 결과로부터 설계인자와 운전조건 등의 유해가스 처리에 필요한 인자를 도출하였다. 임의 충진물인 raschig super-ring에 대한 건조압력손실을 측정한 결과, 가스용량인자가 증가할수록 일정하게 선형적으로 증가하였고, 가스용량인자가 0.630 ~3.448 kg<SUP>-1/2</SUP> m<SUP>-1/2</SUP> S<SUP>-1</SUP> 에서 건조압력손실은 1.892~47.312 mmH₂Om<SUP>-1</SUP> 기존 산업현장에서 보편적으로 사용되는 35 mm pall-ring보다도 낮은 압력손실을 보였다. 그리고 raschig super-ring에 대한 수력학적 압력손실을 측정한 결과, 고유 액체부하에 대하여 가스용량인자가 증가할수록 압력손실도 함께 증가함을 확인하였고, 액체부하 변화에 따른 가스용량인자가 1.855 ~ 2.323 kg<SUP>-1/2</SUP> m<SUP>-1/2</SUP> S<SUP>-1</SUP> 으로 20% 증가할 때, 압력손실은 약 17% 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 충진물 체적에 관한 액체함량은 가스용량인자에 의존된 액체부하 매개변수로서 액체부하 변화에 따른 가스용량인자 약 3.84kg<SUP>-1/2</SUP> m<SUP>-1/2</SUP> S<SUP>-1</SUP> 까지는 거의 일정한 액체함량을 보였으나, 그 이상에서는 급격하게 증가하였다. In recent years, packed column has been widely used in separation processes, such as absorption, desorption, distillation, and extraction, in the petrochemical, fine chemistry, and environmental industries. Packed column is used as a contacting facility for gas-liquid and liquid-liquid systems filled with random packed materials in the column. Packed column has various advantages such as low pressure drop, economical efficiency, thermally sensitive liquids, easy repairing restoration, and noxious gas treatment. The performance of a packed column is highly dependent on the maintenance of good gas and liquid distribution throughout a packed bed; thus, this is an important consideration in a design of packed column. In this study, hydraulic pressure drop, hold-up as a function of liquid load, and mass transfer in the air, air/water, and air-NH₃/water systems were studied to find the geometrical characteristic for raschig super-ring experiment dry pressure drop. Based on the results, design factors and operating conditions to handle noxious gases were obtained. The dry pressure drop of the random packing raschig super-ring was linearly increased as a function of gas capacity factor with various liquid loads in the Air/Water system. This result is lower than that of 35 mm Pall-ring, which is most commonly used in the industrial field. Also, it can be found that the hydraulic pressure drop of raschig super-ring is consistently increased by gas capacity factor with various liquid loads. When gas capacity factor with various liquid loads is increased from 1.855 to 2.323 kg<SUP>-1/2</SUP> m<SUP>-1/2</SUP> S<SUP>-1</SUP>, hydraulic pressure drop increases around 17%. Finally, the liquid hold-up related to packing volume, which is a parameter of specific liquid load depending on gas capacity factor, shows consistent increase by around 3.84 kg<SUP>-1/2</SUP> m<SUP>-1/2</SUP> S<SUP>-1</SUP> of the gas capacity factor. However, liquid hold-up significantly increases above it.

        Experimental Study of Ammonia-based Post-combustion CO2 Capture Process Using Fibrous Tower Packings: Capture Efficiency and Conditions

        Aqueous ammonia is a promising alternative solvent for the post-combustion CO2 capture technology due to its high CO2 removal capacity, low material costs and regeneration energy. However, its high volatility and low reactivity to CO2 limit its application. Therefore, more effort is still needed to improve ammonia-based CO2 capture process. In this work, the performance of CO2 capture in a packed tower using the ammonia solution and fibrous packing was experimentally investigated. The effects of key operating factors, such as packing type, packing height, liquid-gas (L/G) ratio, aqueous ammonia concentration and pH of absorbent, on the CO2 removal efficiency, CO2 capture capacity, and outlet gaseous NH3 concentration have been revealed. The CO2 capture efficiency was greatly improved when using the fibrous packing. Of the operating factors investigated, the one that had a greater effect on CO2 capture was the gas flow rate; the lower the gas flow rate, the higher the CO2 capture efficiency and the lower the ammonia evaporation. Considering the CO2 capture efficiency and ammonia evaporation, an L/G ratio ≤ 5 and a superficial velocity ≤ 5.1 cm/s could be recommended.

        The main purpose of this research was to suggest packed tower dehumidification effectiveness correlations for liquid desiccant integrated system design and analysis. In this research, Liquid desiccant air conditioning system performance data produced using established literature reviews were statistically analyzed by design of experiments. The normal aqueous desiccant solutions; LiCl and TEG and common types of tower; packed tower, were analyzed. Suggested correlation relate to the packed bed tower dehumidification effectiveness as a function of five parameters; L/G(Liquid to gas ratio), inlet air and solution temperature, inlet air relative humidity, solution concentration.

        충진탑(Packed Tower)이 적용된 액체식 제습시스템의 제습효율 예측모델에 관한 연구

        The main purpose of this research was to propose a packed tower dehumidification effectiveness correlation useful for liquid desiccant integrated system design and analysis. In this research, liquid desiccant system’s performance data collected from established literatures were statistically analyzed using the 2<SUP>k</SUP>-factorial design method. The conventional desiccant solutions; LiCl and LiBr solutions used in a packed tower type absorber were analyzed. The proposed model predicts the dehumidification effectiveness of a packed tower type liquid desiccant dehumidification unit as a function of four quantitative system operation parameters. The impact of each system operation parameters on the dehumidification effectiveness were quantitatively estimated. It was found that the proposed model can be used to predict the dehumidification effectiveness, using LiCl solution within 9%, using LiBr solution within 4%, respectively.

      • Optimization of CO<sub>2</sub> stripping systems for removing inorganic carbons from anaerobic digestate of food waste

        The CO<sub>2</sub> stripping could be used to remove inorganic carbon species and alkalinity in wastewater with a high carbonate contents. The aim of the present work was to optimize the performance of two CO<sub>2</sub> stripping systems, so diffused and packed tower aerator. Experiments were conducted using anaerobic digestate of food waste in different agitation speed (0-500 rpm), temperature (25-65℃) and air flow rate (0-50 vvm). The results showed that the packed tower stripper was more efficient than diffused aerator. Most 80% of dissolved CO<sub>2</sub> was successfully removed at the conditions of 65℃, recirculation ratio of 10, packing volume of 60% and gas/liquid ratio of 20 in the continuous packed tower stripper.       • Experimental Study on Heat and Mass transfer Coefficient Comparison Between Counterflow Types and Parallel in Packed Tower of Dehumidification System

        In summer electrical energy is consumed in very high rate. It is used to operate conventional air conditioning system. Hot and humid air can germinate mould spores, encourage ill health, and create physiological stress (discomfort). Dehumidifier solar cooling effect is the one alternative solution saving electrical energy. We use surplus heat energy in the summer, to get cooling effect and then to get human reach to comfort condition. These devices have two system, dehumidifier and regeneration system. This paper will be focus in dehumidifier system. Dehumidifier system use for absorbing moisture in the air and decreasing air temperature. When the liquid desiccant as strong solution contact with the vapor air in the packed tower, it works. The heat and mass transfer performances of flow pattern in the packed tower of dehumidifier are analyzed and compared in detail. In this experiment was introduced, the flow patterns are parallel flow and counter flow. The performance of these flow patterns will calculate from air side. Which is the best flow pattern that gave huge mass transfer rate? The proposed dehumidifier flow pattern will be helpful in the design and optimization of the dehumidifier solar cooling system.

        하수처리장으로부터 분리한 황산화 박테리아를 포괄고정한 2단 충진반응기의 황화수소 제거특성

        This study has implemented an experiment in which hydrogen sulfide was removed by establishing a two-stage packed tower effector filled with nutritious medium and also filling a tower that was immobilized in ceramic media after isolating and identifying the sulfur oxidizing bacteria from a sewage treatment plant. As a result, strains isolated from the sewage treatment plant were found to be similar, including Bacillus fusiformis, Bacillus anthracis sp., Paenibacillus sp., Serratia marcescens sp., Bacillus thuringiensis. The effector that immobilized isolated strains in the ceramic media achieved an approximately 90% removal rate of hydrogen sulfide, while the sterilized ceramic media not immobilized with isolated strains showed a removal rate of about 65%. In addition, the removal rate of hydrogen sulfide in the primary media packing effector immobilized with sulfur oxidizing bacteria was about 92%, while the secondary effector filled with medium had a hydrogen sulfide removal rate near 100%. In addition, 90% efficiency of removal was shown in conditions of EBCT 60s in the experiment that investigated removal rate of hydrogen sulfide according to residence-time, while the efficiency was rapidly reduced up to 45% in conditions of EBCT 30s. On the other hand, when operating for an extended period time while increasing the concentration of injected hydrogen sulfide, the amount of sulfate was increased from 2 mg/L to 12.7 mg/L, and pH was rapidly reduced to 2.7.
