This study explores the poetic world of Duksu Han, the Chairman of Jochongnyeon, the pro-Pyongyang federation of Korean residents in Japan. This federation spread North Korea’s Suryong doctrine to Korean residents in Japan during the prevalence of the Juche Idea. This study aims to fill the research gap in this field. The nationalism espoused by Duksu Han is more republican than that of the first generation of Namgi Heo or Siwoo Nam. Duksu Han’s efforts for the salvation of the Korean residents of Japan, who were marginalized by both postwar Japan and the Republic of Korea, are inevitably linked to ‘minority literature’ ; however, problems arise from Duksu Han’s excessive dependence on Suryong Juche ideology. Unlike the poetry of many Chongryeon Korean residents in Japan, who attempted to regard the Juche Idea as a fanciful notion seeking to uplift the diaspora by depicting their minority status, Duksu Han emphasized the unity of the republic-led fatherland. In fact, he published an order issued by Ilsung Kim on the subject of Art and Literature. His poetry focused more on the idea of ‘exodus’ (escaping Japan), which he expressed to his compatriots who were in dire circumstances, to make them return to North Korea. This comprised a narrative of salvation based on a comprehensive ‘Suryong belief,’ which he embedded in his compatriots’ subconscious through the notion of suffering, highlighting their ‘lives as slaves,’ as well as the ‘narrative of escape,’ particularly ‘escape to the republic.’ Political poet Duksu Han’s narrative of salvation seems to have been produced through an analogy between the path of suffering of the Jews who entered Canaan by crossing the wilderness and the nomadic circumstances of Korean residents in Japan. The most brilliant aspect of his poetry is his realistic depiction of his compatriots’ suffering, as well as his highlighting of his own role as a poet. In depicting Ilsung Kim as the Messiah, he adopts for himself the role of the prophet of the Messiah, and there is repeated allusion to the narrative of faith, of a claim to lead his compatriots into paradise. Accordingly, his poetry loses its luminescence once more. Duksu Han’s occasional borrowing of Old Testament motifs evidences the fact that his poetry accepted the salvation theology of the Juche period, which was strongly redolent of the effect of fundamentalist Christianity. 이 연구는 주체사상기 북한의 수령신앙을 재일조선인들에게 파급한 조총련 초대 의장 한덕수의 시세계를 살핌으로써 이 분야 연구 공백을 메우고자 한다. 한덕수의 민족주의는 1세대 허남기나 남시우가 보여준 것 이상으로 공화국 민족주의에 경사되었다. 전후의 일본은 물론 대한민국 측으로부터도 철저히 소외당한 재일조선인들의 구원을 위한 한덕수의 노력은 ‘소수자문학’의 입장에서 보면 불가피했던 측면도 없지 않았지만, 문제는 수령 주체사상에 대한 의존도가 지나치게 컸다는 데서 발생했다. 소수자로서 디아스포라와 그들을 구원하려는 판타지로서 주체사상 간의 균형을 맞추려 노력을 시도했던 수많은 총련계 재일조선인 시인들과 달리 그는 김일성이 자신에게 하달한 지령을 노골적으로 ≪문학예술≫지면에 게재하면서 공화국이 주도하는 조국통일의 당위를 강조했다. 그의 시가 좀 더 주력했던 것은 절박한 상황에 놓인 동포들을 북한으로 귀국시키기 위해 그들에게 전시했던 ‘엑서더스’(일본 탈출) 제스처였다. 이 제스처는 철저한 ‘수령 신앙’에 입각한 구원의 서사였다. 이는 ‘노예로서의 삶’을 부각하는 수난 서사, ‘공화국으로의 탈출’을 강조하는 ‘탈출서사’ 등을 통해 동포들의 무의식에 인입되었다. 정치 시인 한덕수의 구원 서사는 광야를 건너 가나안에 들어가는 유대인들의 고난 행로를 재일조선인의 유랑의 행로에 유비하면서 구안된 것으로 보인다. 동포들의 고난에 대한 사실적인 묘사는 한덕수 시에서 가장 빛나는 부분이자 시인으로서의 그의 면모가 부각되는 부분이다. 그러나 이는 김일성을 메시아로 설정하고 자신이 그 선지자가 됨으로써 동포들을 낙원으로 인도한다는 신앙 서사를 반복적으로 구사해 나가는 과정에서 이내 빛을 다시 잃는다. 한덕수 시가 간간이 차용한 구약 성서의 모티프들은, 그의 시가 기독교 근본주의의 영향을 강하게 섭수한 주체사상기의 구원 신학을 재수용하고 있었음을 보여준다.
