The Impact of Chinese Interbank Liquidity Risk on Global Commodity Markets

We show how interbank liquidity risk in China impacts the commodity futures risk premium across the world through commodity nancing deals. Investors import commodities, collateralize them, and invest high-yielding shadow banking products to exploit the high-interest rate dierences under capital controls and nancial frictions in China. We reveal that the Chinese commercial banks act as market makers of the shadow banking system in China, and they use the interbank market to resolve the associated maturity mismatch. If maturity mismatch risk intensies, the demand for commodities as collaterals would reduce. To sum up, we empirically show both predictive and contemporaneous relations when interbank liquidity risk in China increases, measured by the 3-month and the overnight interbank loan rates, the commodity futures risk premium decreases due to contractions in the hedging demands for commodity nancing deals. Our ndings are robust with regard to other channels not related to commodity nancing deals.
CDN interconnection service trial: implementation and analysis

<P>Content delivery service has become a major traffic load on today's Internet, and this has triggered the interest of ISPs in operating their own content delivery networks (CDNs) to optimize Internet traffic considering both content delivery caching and user-network proximity. ISPs, however, are typically regionally bound or network-domain-wise isolated; hence, their CDN gain is somewhat limited. In order to enhance the gain of ISP CDN services to the level of incumbent global CDNs, a CDN interconnection (CDNI) model is introduced by IETF, where local ISP CDN services can be extended among heterogeneous CDNs across network domains. However, despite the multiple benefits of a CDNI system, it is difficult to apply a CDNI service to the current CDN market due to the platform independence. Hence, we introduced a CDNI gateway model that is standard-capable and platform-independent. With the CDNI gateway model, we design and implement a complete CDNI system and conduct a CDNI service trial with three major ISPs in South Korea. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first CDNI service trial complying with the IETF standard achieved by a multi-ISP collaboration. According to the analysis of experimental results from the service trial, we observe that CDNI can reduce content traffic by about 40 percent at the Internet exchange link compared to a legacy CDN system.</P>

This paper presents a longitudinal acceleration controller using a model-free control scheme, so-called model-free cruise controller(MFCC), for the automated bus. The MFCC could control throttle and brake without vehicle information by estimating the vehicle parameters using an adaptation algorithm. The adaptation algorithm of the vehicle parameters was modified to consider the driving condition and dynamic characteristics. Adaptation gain for the algorithm was adjusted in order to improve the acceleration tracking performance. Dynamic analysis model of the bus was developed using Carsim, and then the proposed algorithm was evaluated using Carsim and MATLAB/Simulink. The performance of the MFCC controller and the dynamic characteristics of the bus model were investigated. The results will be utilized to complement the adaptation algorithm and the switching algorithm of the controller.

This paper presents a vehicle mass and road grade estimator for developing an automated bus. To consider the dynamic characteristics of a bus varying with the number of passengers, the longitudinal controller needs the estimation of the vehicle's mass and road grade in real-time and utilizes the information to adjust the control gains. Discrete Kalman filter is applied to estimate the time-varying road grade, and the recursive least squares algorithm is adopted to account for the constant mass estimation. After being implemented in MATLAB/Simulink, the estimators are evaluated with the dynamic model and experimental data of the target bus. The proposed estimators will be applied to complement the algorithm of the longitudinal controller and proceed with algorithm verification.
