Error Types, Corrective Feedback and Uptake in Korean EFL Oral Discourse
( Yirang Lim ),( Jungmin Ko ) 성신여자대학교 인문과학연구소 2017 人文科學硏究 Vol.35 No.-
This study is designed to investigate the relationship between error types, corrective feedback, and uptake in Korean EFL contexts. Furthermore, the results are compared to the previous two studies related to feedback and uptake which showed contradictory results in Korean EFL contexts. Ten advanced adult learners participated in this study. Eight speaking classes were observed and audio-recorded. The data was transcribed and analyzed based on Lyster and Lanta`s (1997) taxonomies. Errors, feedback moves, and uptake with repair and needs-repair were tallied, and then statistical analysis was performed to examine the association between the variables. The results are not exactly in line with either of the previous two studies but show similar findings to Canadian immersion contexts. This study indicates that Korean learners have less sophisticated metalinguistic awareness, compared to those in the past. In addition, pedagogical orientation even in communicative classes is one of the variables influencing the rate of feedback after erroneous utterances and types of feedback.
Upper Bound for the Loss of Energy Detection of Signals in Multipath Fading Channels
Yirang Lim,Juho Park,Youngchul Sung IEEE 2009 IEEE signal processing letters Vol.16 No.11

The performance of energy detection under multipath fading is analyzed and compared with locally optimal detection using Pitman's asymptotic relative efficiency. Under the L-tap finite impulse response channel model with zero-mean independent and identically distributed tap coefficients, it is shown that the average performance loss of energy detection is no greater than 50% in sample size for the same performance compared with locally optimal detection exploiting signal correlation. Also, an algorithm exploiting signal correlation and improving the detection performance is proposed based on the estimation of signal correlation. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm almost achieves the performance of locally optimal detection.

Dynamics in the governance of smart cities: insights from South Korean smart cities
Yirang Lim,Jurian Edelenbos,Alberto Gianoli 서울시립대학교 도시과학연구원 2023 도시과학국제저널 Vol.27 No.-
This paper aims to explain how the governance model changes in smart cities by using South Korea's experience as a case study. South Korean smart city development is divided into three phases according to the national master plan and maturity of smart cities. Phase 1 took place from 2008 to 2013, phase 2 extended from 2014 to 2018, and phase 3 began in 2019 and will last into 2023. The cases under consideration are three representative smart cities: Seoul, Songdo, and Sejong. The analysis traces how the governance model of each city changes throughout the three phases. According to stakeholders’ roles and relationships, the governance model is categorized into four types (corporate, market, multilevel, and network governance). The governance model in all three cities showed little change. In Seoul and Songdo, market governance was dominant, while in Sejong, multilevel governance was. However, in phase 3, the institutional setting is changing to facilitate network governance in all three cities. The government guided the collaboration, giving more opportunities for private, academic, and civil actors to engage.
Vol.30 No.4
As internet technology advances, users can share content online, and many sharing services exist. According to a recently published digital forensic study, when playing an online streaming service, you can restore the played video by reconstructing the Chrome cache file left on local device such as a PC. This can be seen as evidence that the user watched illegal video content. From a different point of view, copyright infringement occurs when a malicious user restores video stream and share it to another site. In this paper, we selected 23 online streaming services that are widely used both at home and abroad. After streaming videos, we tested whether we can recover original video using cache files stored on the PC or not. As a result, the paper found that in most sites we can restore the original video by reconstructing cache files. Furthermore, this study also discussed methodologies for preventing copyright infringement in online streaming service.

To design Pt-based materials with a hollow structure via a galvanic reaction would be one of the effective ways to prepare electro- catalysts with high activity. The galvanic reaction between Pt ions and metal template is usually conducted under limited conditions, which makes the preparation of Pt hollow nanoparticles laborious. Here, we introduce a one-step and one-pot synthetic approach for the preparation of carbon-supported PtNi alloy hollow nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution. Prepared PtNi alloys were characterized by a nonporous shell consisting of a Pt-enriched surface layer and an inner alloy layer of Pt and Ni. Due to its unique structural advantages, this material showed excellent electrocatalytic performance for oxygen reduction (3.3- and 7.8-fold enhanced mass and specific activities compared to those of a commercial carbon-supported Pt nanoparticle). A possible mechanism for the formation of PtNi hollow structure is suggested.

Graphic Abstract

Carbon-supported PtNi alloy hollow nanoparticles with excellent electrocatalytic performance for oxygen reduction were prepared by a one-step and one-pot synthetic method.

Polymeric white organic light-emitting diodes with two emission layers.
Lee, Sungkoo,Im, Yirang,Lee, Kyeong K,Lim, Eunhee American Scientific Publishers 2012 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.12 No.4

A white light-emitting diode was fabricated by preparing multilayer emitting films with an inserted buffer layer. The device structures are ITO/PEDOT:PSS/Emissive layer/LiF/Al. The emissive layer comprises a yellow-emitting layer of Poly[9,9-dioctylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl]-co-1,4-benzo-(2,1,3)-thiadiazole (F8BT), a blue-emitting layer of Poly[9,9-di-(2'-ethylhexyl)fluorenyl-2,7-diyl] (BEHF) and PEDOT:PSS as a buffer layer between the emission layers. The solution processed multi-layer polymer light-emitting diodes (PLED) were prepared by introduction of a water-soluble buffer layer between organic solvent soluble layers. We present white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) that has bilayer emission zones. This device exhibits a brightness of 280 cd/m2 and emission efficiency of 1.18 cd/A at 12.6 V. The device with a doped PEDOT:PSS layer and a thicker blue-emission layer exhibits CIE color coordinates of (0.30, 0.34), which is close to the white coordinates of (0.33, 0.33) used by the standard CIE color coordinates.
