Anti-Melanogenic Effect of Cannabis sativa Stem Extracts Fermented with Weissella paramesenteroides

Cannabis sativa (CS) has been in the spotlight not only for its medical uses but also as a raw material for cosmetics. As fermented cosmetics are known to have various health benefits, they have been extensively researched. Here, we investigated the characteristics of CS stems fermented using various gut microbes. The 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide assay and melanin content analysis revealed that melan-a cells containing CS stems fermented with Weissella paramesenteroides (CSWP) showed considerably reduced melanin content. Additionally, CSWP downregulated the expression of several melanogenesis factors, tyrosinase-related protein-1, and tyrosinase-related protein-2. This study suggests that the anti-melanogenic effect of CSWP could provide a new basis for the development of skinlightening agents.

A kinematically-hybrid 5-axis machine tool is analyzed from the perspective of machine tool design. Its kinematic characteristics are pointed out, which should be considered during the conceptual design process. A result of the structural analysis of the machine is presented, which is performed during the detailed design process. It is also presented how we improve the thermal characteristics of the machine tool by changing the installation position of the actuators.

<P>The first total synthesis of pactalactam was accomplished using substrate-controlled stereoselective aziridination and regioselective aziridine ring-opening to construct three continuous amino groups on an octasubstituted cyclopentane core. The cyclopentane framework was obtained by ring-closing metathesis and aldol coupling using a <SMALL>L</SMALL>-threonine-derived oxazoline compound. Cyclic urea formation, <I>m</I>-acetylphenyl group introduction by Chan-Lam coupling, and primary alcohol-selective acylation yielded the reported pactalactam structure. The presence of pactalactam in the fermentation broth of pactamycin-producing bacteria was also confirmed.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) is an important cellular process during which polarized epithelial cells become motile mesenchymal cells, which promote cancer metastasis. Ginger, the rhizome of Zingiber officinale, is extensively used in cooking worldwide and also as a traditional medicinal herb with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. Several pungent compounds have been identified in ginger, including zingerone, which has anticancer potential. However, the role of zingerone in EMT is unclear. We investigated the synergistic effect of zingerone and its derivative on EMT. Transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) induces the EMT to promote hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis, including migration and invasion. To understand the repressive role of the combination of zingerone and its derivative (ZD 2) in hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis, we investigated the potential use of each compound of ginger, such as zingerone, ZD 2 and 6-shogaol, or the mixture of zingerone and ZD 2 (ZD 2-1) as inhibitors of TGF-β1 induced EMT development in SNU182 hepatocellular carcinoma cells <I>in vitro</I>. We show that ZD 2-1, but not zingerone, ZD 2 and 6-shogaol significantly increased expression of the epithelial marker E-cadherin and repressed Snail upregulation and expression of the mesenchymal marker N-cadherin during initiation of the TGF-β1 induced EMT. In addition, ZD 2-1 inhibited the TGF-β1 induced increase in cell migration and invasion of SNU182 hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Furthermore, ZD 2-1 significantly inhibited TGF-β1 regulated matrix metalloproteinase-2/9 and activation of Smad2/3. We also found that ZD 2-1 inhibited nuclear translocation of NF-κB, activation of p42/44 MAPK/AP1 signaling pathway in the TGF-β1 induced EMT. Our findings provide new evidence that combined treatment with ZD 2, novel zingerone derivative, and zingerone synergistically suppresses hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis <I>in vitro</I> by inhibiting the TGF-β1 induced EMT.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>Two new tetracenedione derivatives, nocatriones A (<B>1</B>) and B (<B>2</B>), were discovered from the culture broth of a marine actinomycete, <I>Nocardiopsis</I> sp. KMF-002, which was isolated from the tissue of an unidentified dark purple marine sponge. The structures of <B>1</B> and <B>2</B>, which are tetracenediones containing α-pyrone substituents, were determined to be 3,8,10,11-tetrahydroxy-2-(4-hydroxy-2-oxo-2<I>H</I>-pyran-6-yl)-1-methyltetracene-5,12-dione (<B>1</B>) and 3,8,10,12-tetrahydroxy-2-(4-hydroxy-2-oxo-2<I>H</I>-pyran-6-yl)-1-methyltetracene-6,11-dione (<B>2</B>). Ultraviolet B (UVB)-irradiated cells treated with 10 μM nocatrione A (<B>1</B>) significantly decreased the level of MMP-1, a protein that degrades collagen and other extracelluar matrix components that comprise dermal tissue, when compared to untreated cells. Fast and robust geometric correction for mosaicking UAV images with narrow overlaps

<P>Image mosaicking is essential for monitoring a wide target area using unmanned aircraft vehicle (UAV) images. An image mosaicking process requires accurate and robust geometric correction of individual images with respect to the reference plane. Tiepoint-based geometric correction methods developed so far usually assume wide overlaps between adjacent images. This article focuses on fast monitoring applications where UAVs fly very fast and image mosaics are to be generated immediately. In this case, wide overlaps might not be ensured. For this reason, we investigate a fast and robust geometric correction method for mosaicking UAV images with narrow overlaps. To ensure quickness in geometric correction, an image resampling approach using a resampling grid is presented. To ensure accuracy and robustness in geometric correction, existing transformation models are analysed in depth, and optimal models are proposed. Our proposed method shows the potential for fast monitoring applications. We also show that while existing transformation models work for images with a large overlap, perspective transformation models with full orientation parameters may suffer in images with a narrow overlap. We hope that our results can be useful when implementing an optimal solution that can simultaneously handle UAV images with different overlaps.</P>

<P>A novel series of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole-containing potassium trifluoroborates were prepared in good to excellent yields from the corresponding organohalides and potassium ethynyltrifluoroborate through a regioselective one-pot Cu-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction. Further Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of these (organo-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)trifluoroborates with aryl and alkenyl bromides by using a PdCl2(dppf)center dot CH2Cl2/TBAB [dppf = 1,1-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)ferrocene, TBAB = tetrabutylammonium bromide] system under microwave irradiation was explored.</P>

본 연구는 내용분석과 네트워크 텍스트 분석을 활용하여 학교스포츠클럽 연구동향을 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 자료분석을 위해 2007년부터 2016년까지 발표된 총 137편의 논문을 연구대상으로 선정하였고, 자료처리는 SPSS 20.0, KrKwic 소프트웨어, UCINET 6 프로그램의 NetDraw 기능을 활용하였다. 이와 같은 연구 절차를 거쳐 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학교스포츠클럽에 관한 연구는 2012년 이후부터 양적인 성장을 나타냈다. 둘째, 연구 대상별로 논문 현황을 분류한 결과, 혼합대상 연구가 가장 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 연구방법별로 분석한 결과, 양적연구와 질적연구에 비해 통합연구는 저조한 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 통계기법에 대한 연구 분석결과, 변인 간 인과관계와 차이를 분석하는 통계기법이 주로 활용 되었으며, 다차원 분석이 가능한 통계기법 활용은 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 논문 초록의 주제어에 대한 빈도분석 결과, `만족도`, `정책`, `지도자`가 높은 빈도수를 차지하는 것으로 나타났다. 여섯째, 네트워크 텍스트 분석을 통해 핵심 주제어간 연결 중심성을 확인한 결과, `학교스포츠클럽`과 `만족도`가 연결 중심성, 근접 중심성, 매개 중심성 값이 모두 높은 핵심어로 나타났다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the research trends on school sports clubs using the Content Analysis and Network Text Analysis. Data included 137 journal articles published from 2007 to 2016 and were analysed using SPSS 20.0, KrKwic software and the NetDraw of UCINET 6 program.The results were as follows. First, the number of research articles on school sports clubs were increased since 2012. Second, research studies using mixed subjects were most popular in comparison to more narrow target population. Third, the mixed methods approach was less utilised in comparison to quantitative and qualitative research methods. Fourth, correlational studies were more frequently used while multivariate analyses were less common in terms of statistical methods. Fifth, satisfaction, policy, and leader were the most frequently used keywords among the keywords provided by journal articles. Lastly, the results of Network Text Analysis indicated that school sports clubs and user satisfaction showed the highest degree centrality, closeness centrality, and betweenness centrality.
