<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Unregulated activation of microglia is a key risk factor contributes to neurodegenerative diseases and suppression of this phenomenon is considered as a potential therapeutic target. The compound isolated from sea horse <I>Hippocampus kuda</I> Bleeler; 1-(5-bromo-2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)ethanone [SE1] was characterized for its ability in suppressing LPS mediated activation of murine BV-2 cells. Despite the presence of various active molecular groups in the structure, SE1 has not well explored for its biological activities. The outcome of this study clearly indicated that SE1 inhibited the production of inflammatory mediators; nitric oxide, prostaglandin E<SUB>2</SUB> and pro-inflammatory cytokines. Furthermore, it inhibited the protein and gene expression levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β and interleukin-6. The responsible signaling mechanisms leading to these inhibitions were identified as SE1 mediated blocking of phosphorylation of mitogen activate protein kinase (MAPK) molecules; C-jun-N-terminal kinase (JNK), p38 and nuclear translocation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) p65 and p50 subunits. These results suggest that SE1 has the potential to be further developed as therapeutic against neuro-inflammation.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P><P><ce:figure id='f0045'></ce:figure></P>

This study was conducted to investigate the preventingeffects of OPB (Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch and Eleuth-erococcus senticosus Max extracts) and combined OPB/Calcium therapy on bone loss in ovariectomized rats. SixtySprague Dawley rats of 12-week-old were divided into eightgroups: OVX (ovariectomized), OPBL (OPB 50mg/kg),OPBM (OPB100mg/kg), OPBH (OPB 200mg/kg), OPBL/CAL(OPBL+CAL), OPBM/CAL (OPBM+CAL), OPBH/CAL (OPBH+CAL) and CAL (Calcium citrate 88.33mg/kg+1α, 25-dihydroxy-vitamin D3 33.33IU/kg). Bone mineraldensity (BMD), bone mineral content (BMC), bone strengthindices and cortical thickness were analyzed by peripheralquantitative computerized tomography (pQCT). pQCTscanning showed that OVX induced a significant decreasein trabecular bone mineral density and bone mineralcontent in the proximal tibia (-36.4±2.4%, -21.8±12.7%).These decreases were significantly prevented by theadministration of OPBM and OPBM/CAL. Cortical BMDand BMC of tibia were slightly enhanced by OPB and OPB/CAL. However there was no significant difference betweenOVX and OPB, OPB/CAL treated group. Bone strengthindices and cortical thickness were not significantly different.Our results suggest that OPB and combined OPB/Calciumtherapy are effective in preventing the development of boneloss induced by ovariectomy in rats.

The neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser is most widely used for treatment of lesions affecting the oral mucosa. A pulsed Nd:YAG laser (SDL-300EN, Samsung Electronics, Korea) with a wavelength of 1.32㎛ was used. In all cases, contact mode was used. Four cases of soft tissue oral lesions are presented to document the clinical aspects. Surgery proceeded without complication and healing was uneventful. This study indicate that the Nd:YAG laser can be used successfully for intraoral soft tissue applications are well tolerated and minimal bleeding.
E-learning의 정서적 반응 및 학습성과가 전이성과에 미치는 영향 : 직무몰입의 매개효과를 중심으로

최근 정보통신기술의 발달에 따라 기업 교육훈련 체계가 전통적인 소집형 교육에서 e-learning으로 전환되고 있다. 기업교육의 궁극적인 성공은 교육을 이수하고 난 뒤 현업에 돌아가서 자신이 배웠던 교육내용을 실무에서 적극적으로 사용함으로써 전이성과를 높이는 데 있다. 본 연구는 기업교육의 전이성과에 영향을 주는 제 요인들을 살펴보는 것이 연구목적이다. 전이성과 결정요인으로 기업교육의 일차적 성과인 정서적 반응과 학습성과를 가정하고, 이들 간의 관계에 영향을 미치는 직무몰입의 매개효과를 실증 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 국내 기업교육 전문업체 C사와 직장인 재교육 교육기관인 K기관으로부터 최근 3개월에서 6개월 사이에 e-learning을 이수한 피교육자를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 그리고 구조방정식모형에 의한 분석결과를 제시하고 토의하였다. 분석 결과, 직무몰입의 매개효과가 검증되었으며 분석 결과에 대한 해석 및 토론을 하였다. The development of information technologies has contributed virtual training as one of important education methods. E-Learning in firms provides trainees with more education opportunities in diverse ways. It has developed a range of innovative services with an one-stop solution of education within the electronic sector. Also under the e-learning environment, trainees can undertake customized training packages at anytime and any places. Moreover, information technology allows both the trainers and other trainees to be decoupled in any of the elements of time, Place, and space. This study explores the relationship between reaction/learning performance and transfer performance, and analyzes the mediating effect of individual characteristics on training effectiveness in e-learning settings. Based on the previous literature conducted on the traditional training environment, four sub-hypotheses are developed and tested by questionnaires survey data. The collected data have been analyzed by SPSS12.0 Results indicate that 1) reaction to the e-learning program are revealed as factor affecting the improvement of the transfer performance; and 2) mediating effects of personal characteristics(job involvement) are partially identified. The contribution and limitations of this research are also discussed with future studies.

Nitric oxide(NO) is a labile, uncharged, reactive radical that functions as a sensitive mediator of intercellular communication in diverse tissues. It has been reported that NO is produced by osteoblast and these results may suggest that NO is integrally involved in the regulation of osteoclast formation and osteoclast resorption activity by osteoblastic cells. We examined the effect of cytokines on NO release by mouse bone marrow cell. We also examined the effects of cytokokines and sodium nitroprusside(SNP) on the formation of osteoclast-like cell from mouse bone marrow cells in culture. Cytokines stimulated NO production of mouse bone marrow cells, and N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester, a specific inhibitor of NO synthase, suppressed the cytokine-induced NO production. SNP showed dual action in the generation of osteoclasts. The addition of 30μM SNP inhibited the formation of tartrate resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP)(+) multinucleated cell, whereas lower concentration(3μM) of SNP enhanced it. Althogh the precise action of NO remains to be elucidated in detail, the action of NO in osteoclast generation in our studies seems to be associated, at least in part, with bone matabolism and bone pathophysiology.
Lidocaine으로 Retrobulbar block時 發生한 過敏反應 1例

This report shows a fatal hyperergy occurring during retrobulbar block using lidocaine on a 42 years old male patient. When we injected 60㎎ of lidocaine into the retrobulbar space, following signs were noticed in one minute: hypertension, convulsion, dyspnea and loss of consciousness. In addition to the above symptoms, cardiac arrest developed in 2∼3 minutes and did not respond to any resuscitative effort. It is considered that 60㎎ of lidocaine for retrobulbar block can induce hyperergy and cardiac arrest. The clinical picture and treatment of such reaction is discussed with particular attention to the importance of close observation of all anesthetic patients whether under general or local anesthesia.
