      • 충주 지역에서 10년간 급성심근경색의 임상관찰에 대한 연구

        Background: The current treatments of acute myocardial infarct(AMI) Include noninvasive method using thrombolytics and invasive methods such as primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty(PTCA) and coronary artery bypass graft(CABG)surgery. Although there are many studies comparing the effectiveness of noninvasive and invasive methods, when large clinical centers, 20% of totar hospitals, were excluded, most middle-sized hospitals lacked personnels and facilities for the invasive methods. Thus they opted for the noninvasive methods. Therefore, in this study, the clinical characteristics of AMI patients and the results of thrombolytic & conservative treatment were observed. Method: 137 patients with acute myocardial infarct, who visited KonKuk University Medical Center, ChoongJu Hospital during Sept. 1990 to Sept. 1999 were analysed retrospectively using medical records. Result: The sexual compositions of patients were 63.5% male, and 36.5% female. The mean age for male patients were 56±12.9, and for female patients 68.7±9.6 (p<0.05). The mean age for female patients was significantly older than male patients. The patients in the thrombolytic treatment group had mortality rate of 6.25% which is lower than that of the conservative treatment group at 12% (p>0.05). Conclusion: Although in our study, small number of acute myocardial infarct patients caused the statistical insignificance, rapid revascularization by thrombolytic therapy within 6 hours of onset of symptoms improved mortality rate and early ambulation. And we had good results on AMI with thrombolytic agent in ChungJu including near rural area as primary emergency hospital. Therefore a prospective research with greater number of subjects is needed to develop better treatments for AMI.

      • Poly(ρ-phenylenesulfide)와 Poly(ρ-phenylene)으로부터 제조된 탄소의 리튬 이온 2차전지 anode 재료로서의 전기화학적 특성

        Poly(p-phenylenesulfide)와 poly(p-phenylene)으로부터 제조된 탄소를 리튬이온 2차전지용 음극재료로 사용하여 전기화학적특성을 연구하였다. 이들 고분자들을 질소 분위기하에서 승온속도 2℃/min로 1000℃까지 상승시킨 후, 1시간 동안 탄화시켜 탄소를 제조하였다. Poly(p-phenylene)으로부터 제조된 탄소가 보다 더 규칙적인 구조를 가지기 때문에 Poly(p-phenylenesulfide)으로부터 제조된 탄소보다 더 많은 용량과 충방전 효율을 나타내었다. 수산화리튬과 염화주석(Ⅱ)을 첨가하여 용량의 증가와 충방전 효율의 증가를 가져올 수 있었다. 이중에서 poly(p-phenylene)에 염화주석(Ⅱ)을 첨가시켜 제조된 탄소가 가장 큰 충방전 용량과 충방전 효율의 향상을 가져왔다. Carbon inaterials manufactured from poly(p-phenylene sulfide) and poly(p-phenylene), were studied on electrochemical characteristics as anode materials for lithium ion secondary battery. These polymer precursors were heat treated for 1hr at 1000℃ with the rate 2℃/min under nitrogen atmosphere. Carbon manufactured from poly(p-phenylene) showed higher capacity and coulomb efficiency of charge/discharge than carbon from poly(p-phenylene sulfide) because the former has better ordered structure. Carbon manufactured from polymer precursors adding stannous chloride or lithium hydroxide showed higher capacity and better efficiency of charge/discharge. Also, carbon manufactured by adding stannous chloride to poly(p-phenylene) showed the highest capacity and efficiency of charge/discharge.

        양식 은어의 미포자충 감염예에 대한 병리조직학적 관찰

        1998년 9월 말경, 경남 지역의 양식 은어(Plecoglossus altivelis)에서 미포자충증이 발생하였다. 채집 당시, 하루 약 200마리씩의 폐사가 10일째 진행되고 있었으며 약 10%의 누적폐사율을 나타내었다. 병어는 입올림을 하거나 기면 상태에 있었으며, 대부분 체색흑화 및 복부팽만 소견을 보이고 있었다. 아가미, 아가미 뚜껑, 각종 내장, 복강벽 및 생식소에 직경 1~3㎜의 흰색 결절이 다수 형성되어 있었다. 감염 어종, 기생충의 형태 및 xenoma 분포 장기의 다양성에 근거하여 Glugea plecoglossi에 의한 감염증으로 추정되었다. 병리조직학적 검사를 실시한 결과, 광범위한 장기에 걸쳐 xenoma를 형성하고 있었으나 xenoma 인접조직에 변성 변화는 없었다. 아가미 새변, 비장, 두신 및 체신의 조혈영역에 심한 울혈 소견이 인정되었고, 간장, 심근 및 신세뇨관 국소에는 응고 내지 액화괴사 소견이 확인되었다. 따라서, xenoma의 인접조직에 대한 물리화학적인 영향보다는 xenoma형성 장기 및 조직에 야기된 국소 순환장애가 은어의 폐사와 직접적인 관련을 갖는 것으로 사료되었다. On September in 1998, a microsporidian infection was recognized in ayu, Plecoglossus altivelis, farmed on Kyongnam province of South Korea. Cumulative mortality was around 10% in 10 days. Infected fish which were piping for air near the surface of the water or in the asphyxic, lethargic condition revealed darkening of body and abdominal distention. Numerous whitish nodules up to 3㎜ in size were observed throughout most of body organs and tissues including gill, operculum, peritoneal wall and organs. Xenomas were also histologically confirmed in multiple internal organs with the evidences suggesting circulatory disturbance. Based on the morphology of spore and xenoma, and the distribution of xenomas in organs and tissues, this disease was diagnosed to be a microsporidiosis caused by Glugea plecoglossi. The mortality might be deeply related to the local circulatory disturbance by xemonas rather than the mechano-chemical effect of xenomas on adjacent tissues.

      • Role of Grain Boundary Defects During Grain Coarsening of Lamellar Block Copolymers

        <P>The evolution of grain size and shape as well as type and frequency of grain boundary structures during thermal annealing of lamellar diblock copolymer microstructures is established using large area image reconstruction and analysis. Grain coarsening is found to proceed via an initial transient stage that is characterized by the rapid relaxation of unstable “frozen-in” defects such as kink boundaries and the subsequent quasi-stationary coarsening that is dominated by the continuous relaxation of low-angle symmetric tilt boundaries. The particular relevance of low-angle symmetric tilt boundaries to grain coarsening is interpreted as the consequence of both the associated decrease of boundary energy as well as the availability of favorable kinetic pathwayssuch as grain boundary splittingto facilitate the coarsening process. The inverse relation between grain boundary energy and frequency suggests that the reduction of boundary energy is a relevant governing parameter for the evolution of grain boundary structuresas it is in inorganic materials. The existence of “inert” boundary types (such as asymmetric tilt and twist) thatwithin the experimental windowdo not participate in the coarsening process is expected to have dominant influence on the final morphology that can be attained by thermal annealing of the microstructure.         Effects of Dietary Habits on General and Abdominal Obesity in Community-dwelling Patients with Schizophrenia

        Objective: To investigate the effects of dietary habits on general and abdominal obesity in community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder according to sex. Methods: A total of 270 patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder registered at mental health welfare centers and rehabilitation facilities were recruited. General obesity was defined as a body mass index ≥ 30 kg/㎡, and abdominal obesity was defined as a waist circumstance ≥ 90 cm in men and ≥ 85 cm in women. Dietary habits were evaluated using dietary guidelines published by the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare. Demographic and clinical characteristics along with dietary habits and information related to obesity were collected. Factors related to obesity were evaluated separately by sex. Results: Dietary habits differed according to sex, in that scores for healthy eating habits were lower in men than in women. In men, the prevalences of general and abdominal obesity were 17.0% and 37.3%, respectively. In women, the prevalences of general and abdominal obesity were 23.1% and 38.5%, respectively. Regression analysis showed that the scores of regular eating habits were negatively associated with general and abdominal obesity in men, and the scores of healthy eating habits were negatively associated with general and abdominal obesity in women. Conclusion: Among patients with schizophrenia, regular eating habits might reduce the risk of obesity in men, and healthy eating habits might reduce the risk of obesity in women. Nutrition education should be provided to community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia to prevent obesity in this population.

        Construction of Druglike 2-Amido Benzo[<i>d</i>]imidazole Analogues via Desulfurative Cyclization of Thiourea Intermediate Resin on Solid-Phase

        <P>A 2-amido benzo[<I>d</I>]imidazole library has been constructed by solid-phase synthesis. The key step of this solid-phase synthesis involves the preparation of polymer-bound 2-amino benzo[<I>d</I>]imidazole resin through desulfurative cyclization of thiourea resin using 2-chloro-1,3-dimethylimidazolinium chloride and <I>N</I>,<I>N</I>-diisopropylethylamine in dichloromethane (DCM), and the resin is then functionalized by acylation at the 2-amine position to afford 2-amidobenzo[<I>d</I>]imidazole resin. In the case of 2-amidobenzo[<I>d</I>]imidazole resin having a <I>p</I>-I or <I>m</I>-NO<SUB>2</SUB>, the resin was further functionalized by Suzuki/Sonogashira-coupling (<I>p</I>-I) and reduction to the primary amine (<I>m</I>-NO<SUB>2</SUB>) followed by acylation. Finally, the functionalized 2-amido-benzo[<I>d</I>]imidazole resin was cleaved from the polymer support by treatment with a cocktail of trifluoroacetic acid and DCM. As a result, we obtained 2-amidobenzo[<I>d</I>]imidazole analogues in high yield and good purities.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

        Sphingosine 1-phosphate as a regulator of osteoclast differentiation and osteoclast-osteoblast coupling

        <P>Sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P), produced by sphingosine kinase (SPHK), acts both by intracellular and extracellular modes. We evaluated the role of SPHK1 and S1P in osteoclastogenesis using bone marrow-derived macrophage (BMM) single and BMM/osteoblast coculture systems. In BMM single cultures, the osteoclastogenic factor receptor activator of NF-kappaB ligand (RANKL) upregulated SPHK1 and increased S1P production and secretion. SPHK1 siRNA enhanced and SPHK1 overexpression attenuated osteoclastogenesis via modulation of p38 and ERK activities, and NFATc1 and c-Fos levels. Extracellular S1P had no effect in these cultures. These data suggest that intracellular S1P produced in response to RANKL forms a negative feedback loop in BMM single cultures. In contrast, S1P addition to BMM/osteoblast cocultures greatly increased osteoclastogenesis by increasing RANKL in osteoblasts via cyclooxygenase-2 and PGE(2) regulation. S1P also stimulated osteoblast migration and survival. The RANKL elevation and chemotactic effects were also observed with T cells. These results indicate that secreted S1P attracts and acts on osteoblasts and T cells to augment osteoclastogenesis. Taken together, S1P plays an important role in osteoclastogenesis regulation and in communication between osteoclasts and osteoblasts or T cells.</P>

      • Downregulation of protein kinase CKII is associated with cellular senescence

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Protein kinase CKII (CKII) plays a critical role in cell growth and proliferation. In this study, we examine how CKII activity is regulated during cellular senescence. Our results demonstrate that CKII activity apparently decreases during both replicative and H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-induced senescence in human diploid fibroblast IMR-90 cells. The mRNA and protein levels of CKIIα decreases significantly during replicative and H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>-induced senescence, while only slight reduction in those of CKIIβ is observed during replicative senescence. Treatment of IMR-90 cells with CKII inhibitors 5,6-dichloro-1-β-<SMALL>D</SMALL>-ribofuranosylbenzimidazole and apigenin led cells to acquire a senescent phenotype as judged by the senescence-associated β-galactosidase marker and overexpression of p53 and p21<SUP>Waf-1</SUP>. Knockdown of CKIIα in IMR-90 cells by RNA interference also dramatically induced the senescent phenotype. In parallel, CKII activity was transcriptional downregulated in rat liver and testis with advancing age. Taken together, these results suggest that downregulation of CKII activity is tightly associated not only with cellular senescence but also with organism aging.</P>
