Exploring Photographic Writing about Korean Mothers’ Educational Strategies

Photography has been continuously attempted as a research tool in social science research. Photo-based qualitative research continues to this day while branching out into various methods such as the visual methodology (Rose, 2016), photovoice (Wang, 1999), and photo essay (Quinn et al., 2006). The purpose of this study is to present a case of reconstructing the research results presented in the existing text as photo-based qualitative research. The subject of the study is 'A Qualitative Case Study on the Educational Practice of Mothers for Their Children's Academic Success: Korean Bear Moms,' a study by Kyung-ri Kim, Young Chun Kim, and Jae-seong Jo (2022). The four significant subjects presented as the study's main results were converted into visual data, including photos, to reconstruct the existing results differently. The research methodology was participatory observation and in-depth interviews using photographs. The research participants were parents who actively supported their children's academic achievement. Data were analyzed using a comprehensive data analysis procedure among about 100 photos taken in 2022. One or two photos most suitable for the four areas of the research topic were presented. First, the participants turned their homes into places suitable for their children’s study. Second, parents become learning experts to teach their children effective learning methods. Third, parents make an intensive financial investment in children’s shadow education. Fourth, mothers use the coffee gathering to collect useful information for their children’s academic success. This study exemplifies how photography transcends the limits of text, delivering intuitive and implicit messages, including the symbolic expression of the inner feelings of the participants, which might not have been revealed in the written text.

CHARGE syndrome is a rare genetic disease caused by mutations in the chromodomain helicase DNA binding protein 7 (CHD7) gene, located on chromosome 8q12. This syndrome occurs in early fetal development and is characterized by defects in multiple organs. Reported oral manifestations of CHARGE syndrome are cleft lip and/or palate, micrognathia, retrognathia, mouth breathing, and bruxism. Dental anomalies such as taurodontism, hypodontia, and ectopic eruption are also reported. In this report, we describe the dental treatments of two children with CHARGE syndrome under general anesthesia, who showed multiple caries and dental erosion in primary teeth. From these cases, we describe several considerations that dental professionals should recognize in dental treatments of patients with this syndrome under general anesthesia. Considering that patients with CHARGE syndrome are suffering from defects in multiple organs, dental professionals should communicate with pediatricians before dental treatment to fully understand the medical state of patients. Also, regular preventive dental care is necessary for the management of oral health in patients with CHARGE syndrome.
디지털 시대 변화하는 박물관과 관람자 - SNS 해시태그 분석을 중심으로 -

오늘날 뮤지엄은 급변하는 디지털 환경과 관람객에 주목하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 온라인 플랫폼 중에서 SNS 해시태그 기록과 표현에 집중하였다. 국내 5개관 뮤지엄에 대한 관람객들의 해시태그를 하나의 도구로 인식하고, 이를 통해 뮤지엄에 대한 관람객 인식이 어떻게 변화되고 있는지 살펴보았다. SNS 활성화에 따른 가장 큰 변화는 ‘콘텐츠를 스스로 생성할 수 있는 관람자의 힘’이다. 뮤지엄을 효과적으로 운영하기 위해서는 변화하는 온라인 플랫폼과 관람자들의 특성을 파악하는 데 집중해야 할 것이다. 본 연구를 통해 뮤지엄과 관람객 사이의 효과적인 소통방안을 모색할 수 있기를 기대해 본다. Today, the museum are paying attention to the rapidly changing digital environment and visitors. In this study, the recording and expression of hashtags in the digital era were recognized as a single tool, and through this, We focused on the hashtags as a means of analysis, participation, and exchange for visitors. Through this study, we recognized the rapidly changing digital age and a new type of online platform, narrowing the gap between the museum and the audience, and finding effective communication methods based on participation and sharing.
발전부문 천연가스 사용 확대에 따른 도시가스 산업의 경제적 파급효과 분석

앞으로 우리나라의 발전원 구성은 신정부의 에너지 정책에 따라 석탄화력과 원자력이 감소하고 가스복합과 신재생에너지가 증가할 것으로 예상되며, 그러한 변화로 도시가스 산업에도 변화가 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 발전원 변경에 따른 영향을 정량적으로 살펴보기 위하여 석탄화력과 원자력을 각각 가스복합과 연료전지로 대체하는 시나리오를 설정하여 시나리오별로 도시가스 산업이 다른 산업에 미치는 경제적 파급효과의 변화를 분석하였다. 이 과정에서 정책의 영향이 나타날 시점을 고려하여 2030년 산업연관표를 추정하여 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 가스복합으로 발전원을 대체하는 경우는 전체 산업에 유발하는 생산이 감소하고 연료전지를 사용하는 경우 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며, 모든 시나리오에서 전체 산업에 유발하는 부가가치는 동일한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 발전원 변경 시, 변경 영향이 상대적으로 작게 나타나며 진입장벽이 낮은 가스복합을 단기적으로 활용하고, 장기적으로는 경제적 파급효과가 큰 연료전지를 활용하는 방안이 적절함을 의미한다. Recently, power mix of Korea is planned to be changed from coal-fired and nuclear to gas-combined and renewables by the energy policy of new government. This change will also affect city-gas industry. This paper analyze the economic impact of city-gas industry by scenario that switching coal-fired and nuclear power generation into gas-combined and fuel cell. 2030 input-output table is estimated to take the transfer period into account. As results, the induced impact by city-gas industry to the others was negative when switching into gas-combined while that was positive when switching into fuel cell. This results imply that the gas-fired can be a feasible alternative for short-run but fuel cell is more helpful for our economy in long-run.
Induction of IL-8 in Periodontal Ligament Cells by H₂O₂

Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease caused by bacteria. In periodontitis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) are released from inflammatory cells in response to bacteria. Interleukin (IL)-8 is one of pro-inflammatory cytokines. To investigate the role of ROS in pathogenesis of periodontitis, we estimated the effect of H₂O₂, one of ROS, on the expression of IL-8 in human periodontal ligament (PDL) cells. PDL cells were treated with H₂O₂. IL-8 expression was determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38) and c-jun NH₂-terminal kinase (JNK) was estimated by Western blotting. Treatment with H₂O₂ at concentration of up to 250 μM increased IL-8 mRNA expression and production in a concentration-dependent manner. However, treatment with 500 μM H₂O₂ did not increase IL-8 production. Catalase, an inhibitor of H₂O₂, down-regulated the production of IL-8 induced by H₂O₂. H₂O₂ increased the phosphorylation of ERK, p38, and JNK. Pretreatment with PD98059 (ERK inhibitor), SB203580 (p38 inhibitor), or SP600125 (JNK inhibitor) decreased the IL-8 production induced by H₂O₂. These results indicate that H₂O₂ acts as an inducer of IL-8 secretion via activation of ERK, p38, and JNK in PDL cells. H₂O₂ deposited in periodontal tissue during inflammation against bacteria may accelerate tissue destruction via induction of IL-8 in PDL cells.
투명 전도막 개선을 통한 CIGS 박막태양전지 효율 향상

In this study, sputtering method was used to grow Ga-dopes ZnO films on a CIGS absorber layer, in order to examine the effect of TCO on properties of CIGS solar cell devices. Structural, electrical and optical properties were investigated by varied thickness of Ga-dopes ZnO films. Also, relation to the application as a window layer in CIGS thin film solar cell were studied. It was found that the electrical and structural properties of ZnO:Ga film improved with increasing its thickness. However, the optical properties degraded. Jsc of the fabricated CIGS based solar cells was significantly influenced by the variation of the ZnO:Ga window layer thickness. Because ZnO:Ga window layer is one of the Rs factors in CIGS solar cell. Rs has the biggest influence on efficiency characteristic. In order to obtain high efficiency of CIGS solar cell, ZnO:Ga window layer should be fabricated with electrically and optically optimized.
