No effective antiviral therapy is proven yet, but clinical use of ribavirin (RBV) has been tried. We investigated the antiviral effect of RBV against SFTSV in vitro. Methods: To test for cytotoxicity of RBV, Vero cells were treated with different concentrations of RBV (3.90 to 500 μg/mL, two-fold dilution) and analyzed by cell viability MTS assay 48h post-infection. To determine antiviral activity of RBV against SFTSV, Vero cells were infected with SFTSV strain Gangwon/Korea/2012 at 100 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) per well in a 96-well plate, and RBV was added at the concentrations showing no or minimal cytotoxicity. Viral RNAs were extracted from the culture supernatants and quantifi ed using one-step real-time reverse transcription- PCR to amplify the partial large segment of SFTSV. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA with Tukey`s post hoc test. Results: Cytotoxicity due to RBV was not observed at RBV concentration =31.3 μg/ mL. Viral RNAs at 24h post-RBV treatment were reduced with increasing RBV concentrations (1-32 μg/mL), compared with those of mock-treated cells (P <0.01, Figure). Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of RBV was 3.69 μg/mL at 24h post-RBV treatment. Conclusions: Our study shows that RBV has antiviral effect against SFTSV in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies are required to evaluate the effi cacy of RBV in SFTS.

비장티푸스 살모넬라증에 의한 장열과 장천공은 매우 드물다 저자들은 방어기전의 손상이 없는 건강한 성인에서 비장티푸스성 D군 살모넬라 장열에 동반된 장천공이 발생한 예를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. The case of enteric fever and bowel perforation caused by nontyphoidal Salmonella spp. is extremely rare. We report a case of a 28-year-old man who suffered from enteric fever with complicated a small bowel perforation, which is a known complication of S. typhi and S. paratyphi infections. The culprit later proved to be nontyphoidal group D Salmonella spp. in our case.

Concrete and shotcrete should withstand the conditions for which they have been designed, without deterioration, over a period of years. But concrete and shotcrete are being deteriorated according to aging by internal and external causes. Recently, many studies on the durability of concrete have been conducted. But the durability of shotcrete is rarely studied. So, in this study, chloride ion penetration test, freeze and thaw test, neutralization test were conducted to examine the durability characteristics of shotcrete with several accelerator and chemical admixture types. These results indicate that shotcrete with alkali free accelerator and with superplasticizer are durable. Therefore, the present study provides a firm base to make high performance shotcrete.
Effects of γ-Irradiation on the Antiallergic Activity of Alginate

This study was performed to determine the effects of γ-irradiation on the antiallergic activity of alginate. An alginate aqueous solution was γ-irradiated at 3, 5, 7, 10, 20, and 100 kGy. First, the molecular weight (Mw) of alginate rapidly decreased as the γ-irradiation dose increased up to 20 kGy. Then, the antiallergic activity of the γ-irradiated alginate was measured. Interlukin (IL)-4 cytokine and IgE level were significantly decreased in the γ-irradiated alginate groups as compared to the control group in vitro. The mice intraperitoneally administered with the γ-irradiated alginate exhibited lower ovalbumin-specific IgE and IgG1 level in serum than the control mice. Furthermore, the γ-irradiated alginate suppressed total and ovalbumin-specific IgE secretions in the splenocytes. Increased IL-2 level was observed in the culture supernatants of the splenocytes that were obtained from the mice administerd with the γ-irradiated alginate, while IL-4 level decreased. The present study indicates that γ-irradiated alginate can suppress allergy in a mouse allergy model.

<P>Umbilical cord blood (UCB)-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent adult stem cells, which can differentiation into cells of connective tissue and neural lineages. This study investigated the potential for neuronal differentiation of red fluorescent protein (RFP)-transgenic cat UCB-derived MSCs. The cells were cultured in pre-induction medium for 24 hr and in neuronal-induction medium for 72 hr. Immunofluorescent staining showed that 6.85% of the total cells were β III-tubulin-positive, 3.37% were neurofilament light (NF-L)-positive and 7.04% were neurofilament medium (NF-M)-positive. A β III-tubulin band was detected by western blot analysis. Our results demonstrate that RFP-transgenic UCB-derived MSCs can be differentiated into neuronal cells <I>in vitro</I>. Thus, RFP-transgenic MSCs could provide alternative tracing material for stem cell transplantation.</P>

모바일기기의 발달로 모바일 콘텐츠의 제작 패러다임이 2D에서 3D로 이동하고 있다. 최근 휴대폰에서의 DMB, 동영상 통화 서비스를 넘어 모바일 3D 엔진을 활용한 3D 게임이 출현되는 등 모바일 단말기에서 서비스 가능한 콘텐츠가 다양해지고 있다. 그러나 PC의 성능에 비교할 때 아직 모바일기기는 리소스 즉, 속도와 용량 면에서 아직 많이 부족하다. 제한된 자원을 이용하여 재미있고 현실감나는 3D게임을 제작하기 위해서는 눈에 보이지 않는 특별한 기법들이 사용되어야 한다. 본 논문은 해전 모바일 3D게임을 구현하면 서 사실감을 살리기 위한 몇 가지 기법들을 제안한다.
