Optical properties of ZnO thin lms with/without MgO-buer annealing were investigated by low and room temperature photoluminescence measurements. The ZnO lms were grown onc-sapphire substrates by plasma-assisted molecular-beam epitaxy employing a thin MgO-buer layer. Dislocation density of ZnO layer was reduced from 5.3· 109 to 1.9· 109 cm. 2 by annealingMgO-buer prior to the growth of ZnO. The intensity of free exciton emission from the sample with MgO-buer annealing wasalmost twice of that from the sample without annealing, while the deep level emission from the sample with MgO-buer annealingwas about 1/3 of that without annealing. The MgO-buer annealing improves optical quality of overgrown ZnO lms.

Visual evoked potentials (VEPs) are the electrical responses from the brain concerned with visual information processing. Amplitude of VEPs is smaller than that of background EEG activity, and the stimulus-locked averaging method is usually used for obtained the waveform. VEP response to each stimulus is not completely the same however it is varying with its amplitude and duration. Therefore, amplitude of averaged VEP waveform deteriorates due to their variability in raw data. Feature extraction of background EEG activity during visual stimulation is also a one of significant items in VEP analysis. In that case, separation of VEP component and background EEG component (mainly posterior dominant rhythm) is crucial. In the past, we proposed the method of estimating both amplitude of VEP and dominant rhythm by use of EEG model. This present study, the proposed method was applied to actual recorded VEP data and its effectiveness was evaluated. EEGs with visual stimulus were recorded from nine healthy young adults. Usefulness of the proposed method was investigated by comparing the conventional power spectrum averaging method. The proposed method will be applicable to show an accurate VEP analysis and characteristic analysis of background activity under visual stimulus.

Study Design: This experimental study was performed using human ligamentum flavum–derived cells (HFCs).Purpose: To investigate the intracellular signaling mechanism of interleukin-6 (IL-6) secretion in transforming growth factor-β (TGF- β)-stimulated HFCs.Overview of Literature: Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a prevalent disease among the elderly, characterized by debilitating pain in the lower extremities. Although the number of patients with LSS has increased in recent years, the underlying pathomechanism remains unclear. Clinical examinations typically rely on magnetic resonance imaging to diagnose patients, revealing ligamentum flavum hypertrophy. Some studies have suggested an association between ligamentum flavum hypertrophy and inflammation/fibrosis, and expression of TGF-β and IL-6 has been observed in surgically obtained ligamentum flavum samples. However, direct evidence linking TGF-β and IL-6 expression in HFCs is lacking. Methods: HFCs were obtained from patients with LSS who had undergone decompression surgery. The cells were stimulated with TGF-β and pretreated with either the p38 mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase inhibitor SB203580 or the p44/42 MAP kinase inhibitor FR180204. IL-6 secretion in the cell culture medium and IL-6 messenger RNA (mRNA) expression levels were analyzed using an enzyme-linked immunoassay and real-time polymerase chain reaction, respectively. Results: TGF-β administration resulted in a dose- and time-dependent stimulation of IL-6 release. Treatment with SB203580 and FR180204 markedly suppressed TGF-β–induced IL-6 secretion from HFCs. Moreover, these inhibitors suppressed IL-6 mRNA expression in response to TGF-β stimulation. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that TGF-β induces IL-6 protein secretion and gene expression in HFCs through the activation of p38 or p44/42 MAP kinases. These results suggest a potential association between IL-6–mediated inflammatory response and tissue hypertrophy in LSS, and we provide insights into molecular targets for therapeutic interventions targeting LSS-related inflammation through our analysis of the MAP kinase pathway using HFCs.

Background: The serum level of soluble CD30 (sCD30) is known to be increased with several lymphomas and to correlate with prognosis. Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is a highly aggressive malignant lymphoma with poor prognosis, but the existence and significance of sCD30 in PEL have not yet been investigated in detail. Objectives: Since the membrane type of CD30 is frequently expressed on the surface of PEL cells, we compared the expression of the membrane type of CD30 and the production of sCD30 among PEL cell lines as well as other lymphomas. Methods: The expression of surface CD30 in various lymphoma cell lines was analyzed with flow cytometry ans sCD30 was quantified by ELISA. Results: Both surface and sCD30 were detected on PEL cell lines as well as on Hodgkin's lymphoma and adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma cell lines. Surface CD30 and sCD30 levels of each cell lines correlated with each other. Conclusion: The serum level of sCD30 appear to be a useful biological tumor marker for the diagnosis and management of CD30-positive PEL.
Inductance Vector Angle Based Sensorless Speed Estimation in Switched Reluctance Motor Drive
Fuat Kucuk,Hiroki Goto,Hai-Jiao Guo,Osamu Ichinokura 전력전자학회 2007 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.- No.-
Feedbacks signals of rotor speed and motor torque are essential in most of Switched Reluctance (SR) motor control applications. An SR motor has highly nonlinear characteristics that do not allow to be modeled by simple equations. Hence, the feedback signals can not be mathematically calculated from the model. Instead of calculation, they should be measured or estimated. In Direct Torque Control (DTC) drive, which enables easy control of torque ripple in the SR motor, position sensor is employed to obtain the feedback signals. Position sensor causes DTC drive not only less reliable but also more expensive. Estimation of feedback signals is required in order to eliminate position sensor (or encoder). This paper concerns about sensorless speed estimation under the DTC condition and presents a simple method. The proposed method is based on inductance vector angle. The inductance vector angle is obtained by applying α ? β transformation to the phase inductances. A relay triggers a speed calculation circuit according to its band limits and the inductance vector angle. Inside the circuit, triggering time is kept in a memory until the next triggering. Then, rotor pole pitch is divided by the time difference between two consecutive triggerings. Finally, the estimation circuit outputs the rotor speed. Estimation method is simulated and verified experimentally to show its validity.

We report on GaN growth on Zn-polar ZnO substrates using plasma-assisted molecular-beam epitaxy (P-MBE). Before GaNgrowth, ZnO substrate annealing conditions were optimized. Reection high-energy electron diraction (RHEED) patterns afterlow-temperature GaN buer layer annealing changed from streaky to spotty, suggesting that zinc and oxygen atoms interdiusefrom the ZnO substrate into the GaN epilayer. This interdiusion results in a mix-polar GaN epilayer.

GaN films were grown on ZnO substrate under various beam equivalent pressure ratios by plasma-assisted molecular beamepitaxy (P-MBE). We theoretically calculated the thermal stress caused by the dierence of thermal expansion coecients betweenGaN and ZnO. The changes of stress and critical thickness were evaluated by measurement of XRD for HT GaN and LT GaNbuer grown under Ga-rich and N-rich conditions. From this study, we observed that GaN grown under Ga-rich condition causesGaN lm to under compressive-stress, while GaN grown under N-rich condition was tensile-stressed. Consequently, interdiusionhas no eect on the variation of the critical thickness.
Diethyldithiocarbamate Suppresses an NF-κB Dependent Metastatic Pathway in Cholangiocarcinoma Cells
Srikoon, Pattaravadee,Kariya, Ryusho,Kudo, Eriko,Goto, Hiroki,Vaeteewoottacharn, Kulthida,Taura, Manabu,Wongkham, Sopit,Okada, Seiji Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.7
Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a tumor of biliary ducts, which has a high mortality rate and dismal prognosis. Constitutively activation of the transcription factor nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-${\kappa}B$) has been previously demonstrated in CCA. It is therefore a potential target for CCA treatment. Effects of diethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC) on NF-${\kappa}B$-dependent apoptosis induction in cancer have been reported; however, anti-metastasis has never been addressed. Therefore, here the focus was on DDTC effects on CCA migration and adhesiond. Anti-proliferation, anti-migration and anti-adhesion activities were determined in CCA cell lines, along with p65 protein levels and function. NF-${\kappa}B$ target gene expression was determined by quantitative RT-PCR. DDTC inhibited CCA cell proliferation. Suppression of migration and adhesion were observed prior to anti-CCA proliferation. These effects were related to decreased p65, reduction in NF-${\kappa}B$ DNA binding, and impaired activity. Moreover, suppression of ICAM-1 expression supported NF-${\kappa}B$-dependent anti-metastatic effects of DDTC. Taken together, DDTC suppression of CCA migration and adhesion through inhibition of NF-${\kappa}B$ signaling pathway is suggested from the current study. This might be a promising treatment choice against CCA metastasis.

Hen egg-white lysozyme was conjugated with 7~9 mers xyloglucan hydrolysates (MW=1,400) at 60℃ and 79% relative humidity for 3 days. SDS-PAGE showed that the conjugation between lysozyme and the oligosaccharide began from 1-day incubation, and three molecules of carbohydrate chains were attached to a protein molecule after 3-day incubation. The enzymatic activity of lysozyme was totally conserved in the neoglycoprotein, when measured by using glycol chitin as substrate. Besides, the emulsifying properties of lysozyme were vastly improved by the conjugation with the oligosaccharide, in which emulsifying activity of the neoglycoprotein was five times higher than that of native one.
