With the increasing interests in and needs for eco-friendly vehicles worldwide, compressed natural gas (CNG) is recognized as one of the most promising alternative fuels, for its excellent fuel efficiency and low pollutant emission. Subsequently, the performance of the CNG regulator as one of the CNG fuel supply modules, which depressurize the highly pressurized CNG, is increasingly important. In this study, a test equipment, wherein the supply pressure, supply rate and coolant temperature could be controlled, was prepared to evaluate the performance of the CNG regulator. The changes in the outlet pressure and water jacket performance were observed while changing the supply pressure and supply rate. The results of the study showed that the rapid drop of the gas temperature at the regulator outlet, which is called icing, more influenced the regulator performance when the supply pressure was higher, and a method to maximize the water jacket performance would be necessary to solve the problem.
Expeditious low-temperature sintering of copper nanoparticles with thin defective carbon shells.
Kim, Changkyu,Lee, Gyoungja,Rhee, Changkyu,Lee, Minku RSC Pub 2015 Nanoscale Vol.7 No.15

The realization of air-stable nanoparticles, well-formulated nanoinks, and conductive patterns based on copper is a great challenge in low-cost and large-area flexible printed electronics. This work reports the synthesis of a conductively interconnected copper structure via thermal sintering of copper inks at a low temperature for a short period of time, with the help of thin defective carbon shells coated onto the copper nanoparticles. Air-stable copper/carbon core/shell nanoparticles (typical size 23 nm, shell thickness 1.0 nm) are prepared by means of an electric explosion of wires. Gaseous oxidation of the carbon shells with a defective structure occurs at 180 C, impacting the choice of organic solvents as well as the sintering conditions to create a crucial neck formation. Isothermal oxidation and reduction treatment at 200 C for only about 10 min yields an oxide-free copper network structure with an electrical resistivity of 25.1 μω cm (14.0 μω cm at 250 C). Finally, conductive copper line patterns are achieved down to a 50 μm width with an excellent printing resolution (standard deviation 4.0%) onto a polyimide substrate using screen printing of the optimized inks.

Kim, Bomi,Seo, Bohyung,Park, Sanghyun,Lee, Changkyu,Kim, Jong Oh,Oh, Kyung Taek,Lee, Eun Seong,Choi, Han-Gon,Youn, Yu Seok Elsevier 2017 Colloids and surfaces Biointerfaces Vol.158 No.-

Abstract

Albumin nanoparticles are well-known as effective drug carriers used to deliver hydrophobic chemotherapeutic agents. Albumin nanoparticles encapsulating curcumin and doxorubicin were fabricated using slightly modified nanoparticle albumin-bound (nab™) technology, and the synergistic effects of these two drugs were examined. Albumin nanoparticles encapsulating curcumin, doxorubicin, and both curcumin and doxorubicin were prepared using a high pressure homogenizer. The sizes of albumin nanoparticles were ∼130nm, which was considered to be suitable for the EPR (enhanced permeability and retention) effect. Albumin nanoparticles gradually released drugs over a period of 24h without burst effect. To confirm the synergistic effect of two drugs, in vitro cytotoxicity assay was performed using B16F10 melanoma cells. The cytotoxic effect on B16F10 melanoma cells was highest when co-treated with both curcumin and doxorubicin compared to single treatment of either curcumin and doxorubicin. The combined index calculated by medium-effect equation was 0.6069, indicating a synergistic effect. Results of confocal laser scanning microscopy and fluorescence-activated cell sorting corresponded to results from an in vitro cytotoxicity assay, indicating synergistic cytotoxicity induced by both drugs. A C57BL/6 mouse model induced by B16F10 lung metastasis was used to study in vivo therapeutic effects. When curcumin and doxorubicin were simultaneously treated, the metastatic melanoma mass in the lungs macroscopically decreased compared to curcumin or doxorubicin alone. Albumin nanoparticles encapsulating two anticancer drugs were shown to have an effective therapeutic result and would be an excellent way to treat resistant lung cancers.

Highlights

We developed curcumin and doxorubicin co-loaded albumin nanoparticles.

The nanoparticles were fabricated by high pressure homogenization via Nab® technique.

The nanoparticles exhibited synergistic cytotoxicity on the B16F10 cells.

These new albumin nanoparticles would be potential as a treatment for metastatic lung cancers.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

The perception that call center operators’ interactions with customers make effects on service quality or customer satisfaction is getting proliferated. Accordingly, emotional labor of call center operators attracts attentions. Call Center Information System plays very important role in interactions between call center operators and customers, and call center operators can reduce their stress when they can use information system effectively. It would decrease emotional labor of call center operators and increase performances of individuals and organization. Accordingly, in this study a hypothesis is made that call center information systems quality and emotional labors make effects on the organizational performance. In test of hypothesis, it is verified that the information systems quality makes effects on emotional labor of call center operators, and emotional labor makes effects on organizational performance, in other words it makes effects on customer-orientedness and organizational satisfaction.
Reanalysis of Ohno's hypothesis on conservation of the size of the X chromosome in mammals
Kim, Hyeongmin,Lee, Taeheon,Sung, Samsun,Lee, Changkyu,Kim, Heebal The Korean Society for Integrative Biology 2012 Animal cells and systems Vol.16 No.6
In 1964, Susumu Ohno, an evolutionary biologist, hypothesized that the size of X chromosome was conserved in mammalian evolution, and that this was based on chromosomal length. Today, unlike Ohno's method which was based on estimated lengths, we know the exact lengths of some mammalian sequences. The aim of this study was to reanalyze Ohno's hypothesis. In mammalian species, variation in the length of the X chromosome is greater than in the autosomes; however, this variation is not statistically significant. This means that differences in chromosomal length occur equally in the X chromosome and in the autosomes. Interspersed nuclear elements and genetic rearrangements were analyzed to maintain the same variance between the length of the X chromosome and the autosomes. The X chromosome contained fewer short interspersed elements (SINEs) (0.90 on average); however, it did contain more long interspersed elements (LINEs) than did autosomes (1.56 on average). An overall correlation of LINEs and SINEs with genetic rearrangements was observed; however, synteny breaks were more closely associated with LINEs in the autosomes, and with SINEs in the X chromosome. These results suggest that the chromosome-specific activities of LINEs and SINEs result in the same variance between the lengths of the X chromosome and the autosomes. This is based on the function of interspersed nuclear elements, such as LINEs, which can inactivate the X chromosome and the reliance of non-autonomous SINEs on LINEs for transposition.
