Vol.22 No.2

This essay explores the ways in which Herbert deals with the issues concerning poetic contents and the methods he should face in Temple. Herbert constructs himself as a sacred reader who experiences God's love with all his presence and should express its wonderful, mysterious life-giving power without any distortion. Especially in "Love(III)", Herbert attempts to establish fully his relationship with God based on His love, being done with the poetic difficulties and agonies he has suffered during the process of purifying himself to make his spiritual eyes open with the start of the first poem "The Alter". In "Love(III)" Herbert is invited as a guest to participate in a heavenly banquet where God serves as a warm-hearted host. However, the poet has been very hesitant or mistaken in responding graciously and properly to God's welcoming reception, feeling guilty for sin or posing the problem of worthiness and responsibility as a guest. God has expected Herbert to accept His invitation of love that is a crucial testimony for him to be redeemed through God's act of sacrifice and death on the Cross. In God's viewpoint Herbert is qualified enough to "sit and eat" His body and blood in Sacramental ceremony and through digesting the "meat" can be united with God's presence. However, Herbert decides to justify himself by performing willing rewards to God instead of acknowledging God's way of salvation. Herbert wants to become the subject of redeeming himself in the course of writing poems, refusing to stay as an object of God's grace and love. The poet continues to write a story containing his poetic agony of how he can dialogue with God as a subject to a subject, not as a guest to a host. By trying to be concerned with his incomplete actions rather than God's complete love in "Love(3)", he emphasizes the importance of human positive activities in the process of conducting exchange programs with God. Nevertheless, in this very moment, the poet is aware obviously that whatever he does for his justification, including the works of writing poetry, necessarily fails due to human mortal sin. Furthermore, he recognizes the difficulties of how he can express perfectly God's love in a fallen language. Here lies Herbert's poetic agony as a sacred reader.

Vol.37 No.-

Today, we face a missional situation composed of multi-religious societies at home and abroad. Therefore, we should always try to evangelize while keeping the identity of our faith and becoming friends with people of other religions at the same time. In this sense, it is worthwhile reassessing Ezra’s reforms on Intermarriage from the missiological perspectives. Ezra grieved deeply about the marriage with gentile women which was being commonly practiced among the community of exiles, and wanted to reform it. The international marriage was the key issue of Ezra-Nehemiah’s reforms, and it was carried out immediately after Ezra’s return. There are two views on the purpose of Ezra’s reforms. One view is that it aimed at keeping the identity of faith, and the other, keeping the land-economic wealth. In this paper, the writer supports the former view. Ezra’s reform was a necessary action to awaken the Jews to protect their religious purity once again. However, banishing women who had been married altogether with their children causes a few problems in the writer’s view. Ezra’s action was not in accordance with the laws including the ones in Deuteronomy, nor ethical in that it banished even children, did not allow the women o be converted through the education of the law, hence causing the isolation of Israelites from the neighboring tribes. The purpose of Ezra’s reform was to separate Israelites from gentiles, because he thought that Israelites were the holy people while the gentiles were “the people of the land.” Compared with the case in which God commanded every gentile staying in the house of Abraham to be circumcised just like Abraham’s descendants were and other incidents where the gentiles living under the influence of Israel were treated as the people of the LORD, Ezra’s reform is not easy to accept. Ezra’s prohibition of intermarriage became a turning point for Israel to hold exclusive Judaism and place themselves in strict isolation and hostility relation with their neighboring tribes and countries. Today, identity and communication are important issues among the Christian missionaries. Missionaries should not lose their identity, and at the same time preach Gospel while communicating with their neighbors. This paper proposes to study Ezra’s marriage reforms, starting with the previous scholarly works, sociological or exegetical, and concluding with today’s missiological and ecclesiastical application of them.

Vol.25 No.2

This essay explores the way in which ideal knowledge functions in the construction of a Utopian society in Macaria. A scholar and a traveller, two characters in Macaria, try to find the appropriate method for England to become an ideal nation full of material wealth, spiritual prosperity and peaceful happiness, which are fulfilled in Macaria. They are certain that the state can be realized when English people, who have been called dull by other European counties, are armed with the proper knowledge and rightly identify themselves as the chosen nation for the reformation. Here the proper knowledge is not pure knowledge characteristic of abstraction and logic but practical knowledge which can contribute to solving current problems. This knowledge focuses more on transforming historical situations than on explaining historical processes. Practical knowledge is formed through the principle of experience which can overcome abstract knowledge’s lack of transformative power. Experience is the main factor in suggesting what knowledge is needed, and a great agent in the empowerment of produced knowledge. In Macaria, the “college of experience” operated by the state produces the proper knowledge, which is tested by the society of experimenters. During knowledge formation process in laboratory, the contaminated parts of knowledge are refined by eliminating the evil brought by the Fall. The refined knowledge, as an embodiment of prelapsarian Adamic knowledge, exercises its healing power of restoring the soul as well as the body. More specifically, scientific knowledge is worth no more than spiritual knowledge, and a doctor of the body is the same as a pastor of the soul. This leads to a pansophic search for knowledge, in which all kinds of knowledge are united in the worship of God, who is the ultimate source of knowledge. This unification of knowledge types demonstrates how much this knowledge is crucial for constructing an ideal state in Macaria and England, because these countries are based upon and directed by a system of knowledge unifying God, man and nature. In this situation, the more knowledge spreads, the more a nation can be changed into a happy state, with speeding up the reformation. In Macaria the knowledge produced by the “college of experience” is delivered throughout the land through printing, the most effective communication device. In England, painting also makes it possible that enlightened readers and public debate spaces appear in keeping with the massive publication of pamphlets and books, especially publications regarding human liberties and rights. The active readers of awakening, each as the production of independent individuals, participate in hot public debate and are in the vanguard of reproducing the knowledge necessary for the reformation. These readers then become modern subjects who must attempt to build a reformed and ideal England using the precious and powerful knowledge “worth all the merchandize in the Kingdom.”

        이종우,김유섭,김성동,이재원,채진석,Lee, Jong-Woo,Kim, Yu-Seop,Kim, Sung-Dong,Lee, Jae-Won,Chae, Jin-Seok 한국정보처리학회 2003 정보처리학회논문지B Vol.10 No.3

In the context of a dynamic trading environment, the ultimate goal of the financial forecasting system is to optimize a specific trading objective. This paper proposes a two-phase (extraction and filtering) stock trading system that aims at maximizing the rates of returns. Extraction of stocks is performed by searching specific time-series patterns described by a combination of values of technical indicators. In the filtering phase, several rules are applied to the extracted sets of stocks to select stocks to be actually traded. The filtering rules are automatically induced from past data. From a large database of daily stock prices, the values of technical indicators are calculated. They are used to make the extraction patterns, and the distributions of the discretization intervals of the values are calculated for both positive and negative data sets. We assumed that the values in the intervals of distinctive distribution may contribute to the prediction of future trend of stocks, so the rules for filtering stocks are automatically induced from the data in those intervals. We show the rates of returns when using our trading system outperform the market average. These results mean rule induction method using distributional differences is useful.
