This study attempted to examine the effects of concept mapping as an instructional strategy in geography education. The subjects were 195 first-year students (90 males and 105 females) of a high school in Seoul. The control group was instructed with traditional teaching methods, lectures and summarizing units. The experimental group was instructed with lectures and student-centered concept mapping. The instruction about urban geography lasted 3 weeks for the two groups. The students' performance in three achievement tests and one post test were compared. The major findings of this study are as follows. 1. Instructional strategy of concept mapping is effective at 0.05 significant level in achievement and retention. 2. The difference between the control group and the experimental group is greater in male groups than female groups. 3. Instructional strategy of concept mapping is found more effective in the upper learning ability group than in the lower learning ability group.

This paper describes system and its algorithm which can measure traffic flow on the road by using industrial television applied in industry. This algorithm is using the real-time processing of dynamic scenes. The processing algorithm of dynamic scenes is developed and proved its validity by designing VISC (Video Information Sampler and Converter). The accuracy of this algorithm is enhanced by allocating sampling points in cross-direction of the vehicles.

산업, 의용, 교통, 사회의 각 분야에서 응용되고 있는 공업용 텔레비젼(ITV)을 사용하여 동영상의 실시간 자동처리방법에 의한 고속도로상의 교통류를 계측하는 시스템과 그 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 영상계측 시스템에서는 ITV에 의한 실시간 처리를 가능하게 하기 위하여 VISC를 설계하여 그 유효성을 증명하였고, 그 시스템을 이용하여 각종 동영상의 처리 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 실제로 ITV 영상을 이용하여 고속도로상에서 도로의 횡단방향에 하나의 샘플점열을 설치하고, 1레인당 7점정도의 밀도로 샘플점열을 배치하여 계측알고리즘을 표시하고, 실험예에서는 계측 오차가 1∼2%의 정확도로 계측되는 결과를 표시하였다. This paper describes system and its algorithm which can measure traffic flow on the road, using industrial television applied in industry, medicine, traffic and society, by real-time processing of dynamic scene. We have proved its validity by designing VISC(Video information Sampler and Converter) and developed processing algorithm of dynamic scene by use of its system. In practice, a sample point is allocated in cross-direction. With the results, we have represented accuracy of this algorithm.
