        Design and Simulation of Foundation Technology for Zigbee-based Smart Grid Home Network System using OPNET Simulation

        The Internet of Things (IoT) and the Smart Grid both are being discussed as the technologies that would dominate Korean IT industry by 2020. The PLC, Zigbee, NFC, ANT, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and RFID are considered to be the foundation technologies for the Smart Grid and in this paper, we propose a Zigbee-based Smart Grid Home Network System. A comparative analysis has been carried out by performing additional Mobile WiMAX-based simulations with respect to the research paper published in the conference proceedings and we confirmed that all the proposed system worked normally. Although the simulation results showed that the Mobile WiMAX has a better capability than Zigbee, the latter has more advantages in terms of scalability and the possibility of reducing the battery size as it features low-cost and low-power characteristics. As a standard technology for the low-cost and low-power oriented networks, the scalability can be achieved by its low-cost characteristic (i.e., many Zigbee equipments can be installed widely) and the size of battery can be reduced its low-power use characteristic. Considering the operating life, we’ve concluded that Zigbee could be more efficient for certain areas. The proposed foundation technology used for the system in this paper can be adapted to various areas of the IoT. Thus, in this paper, the OPNET Modeler 14.5 PL8, Zigbee-based scenario and WiMAX-based scenario had been used for the designing and simulations of both systems. We expect that it would be possible to apply the technology to a variety of fields of health-care, building and facility management, accident and disaster monitoring and meteorological observation as well.

      • 광디스크 디지털 서보의 저전력 구현 아키텍쳐

        광디스크 재생기에서 사용되는 디지털 서보는 주변 블록과의 집적화가 유리하고, 온도변화에 따른 열화가 적으며, 각종 픽업에 대한 유연한 대응이 가능한 장점 때문에 이용도가 점점 높아지고 있는 추세이다.[6] 그러나 디지털 시그널 프로세서를 내장한 디지털 서보는 전력 소비량이 매우 큰 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 광디스크 재생기의 특성 상 초기화 시간에 대부분의 기능이 몰려 있으므로 DSP의 사이클 수는 많이 차지 하나, 실제로 전력 소비에 주된 영향을 끼치는 시간은 초기화 시간이 아닌 재생 모드 시간 임에 착안하여 디지털 서보의 소비 전류를 획기적으로 줄일 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다. 재생 모드에서의 필터 처리 사이클 수를 최대한 줄일 수 있도록 아키텍쳐를 변환함과 동시에 디지털 서보의 재생 모드를 병렬 처리함으로써, 전체 시스템의 소비 전력을 크게 줄이는 효과를 얻을 수 있도록 하였다. 즉, 광디스크 재생기의 디지털 서보에 포함되는 DSP 코아의 리소스 공유를 통해DSP의 동작 속도와 부하를 크게 줄임으로써 소비 전류를 획기적으로 줄이는 효과를 얻어낸 것이다. 이러한 개념은 DSP-코아 뿐만 아니라, ROM, RAM에도 모두 적용되어 기존 아키텍쳐의 디지털 서보에 비해 소비 전류를 83% 가까이 줄일 수 있는 효과를 얻을 수 있었다. Digital servo implementation in optical servo chip has been spotlighted since it is easy to integrate with other blocks and it has less sensitive characteristics change in terms of temperature variation and better flexibility to the system variation like pick-up. Therefore, Optical disc players adopted digital servo are increasing in market. However, one drawback of digital signal processor embedded digital servo is power consumption that is one of the most important factors of portable optical disc player system. For that reason, this paper introduces new architecture to reduce power consumption of digital servo by means of reducing DSP load but increasing minimum hardware size. The main idea of reducing power consumption of digital servo greatly is utilizing CDP characteristics as most operations are done and used up most operating steps of DSP at the initial time, but most power consumption is occurred in play mode. Therefore, if operating steps for digital filtering in play mode could be reduced greatly, power consumption of overall system can be reduced greatly. This paper shows an example that low power digital servo architecture whose current is reduced almost 83%, compare to that of digital servo which is not applied by the low power architecture introduced in this paper.

        Design and Simulation of a Platform Technology for the Mobile WiMAX-based Micro Grid Home Network System using OPNET Simulation

        Currently, ICT (Information & Communication Technology), IoT (Internet of Things), Smart Grid and Micro Grid technologies are seen as the technologies that will dominate the IT industry of the Republic of Korea till 2020. There are communication technologies such as Mobile WiMAX, PLC, Zigbee, NFC, ANT, Mobile Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID applicable for Smart Grids but we are proposing a Mobile WiMAX-based Micro Grid Home network system in this paper. As a result of simulation, we were able to confirm that the propose system worked normally. The platform technology used in this study can be used for the Smart Grids and Micro grids, as well as other IoT-applied fields. Also, many other simulations in relation to healthcare, building and facility management, disaster and accident monitoring, weather observation and other areas can be conducted using this platform technology prior to constructing an actual system to save costs by checking system’s feasibility.

        A Case Study of the Base Technology for the Smar t Gr id Secur ity: Focusing on a Per formance Improvement of the Basic Algor ithm for the DDoS Attacks Detection Using CUDA

        Since the development of Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) in 1999, the development speed of GPUs has become much faster than that of CPUs and currently, the computational power of GPUs exceeds CPUs dozens and hundreds times in terms of decimal calculations and costs much less. Owing to recent technological development of hardwares, general-purpose computing and utilization using GPUs are on the rise. Thus, in this paper, we have identified the elements to be considered for the Smart Grid Security. Focusing on a Performance Improvement of the Basic Algorithm for the Stateful Inspection to Detect DDoS Attacks using CUDA. In the program, we compared the search speeds of GPU against CPU while they search for the suffix trees. For the computation, the system constraints and specifications were made identical during the experiment. We were able to understand from the results of the experiment that the problem-solving capability improves when GPU is used. The other finding was that performance of the system had been enhanced when shared memory was used explicitly instead of a global memory as the volume of data became larger.

        Simulation of Power Line Communication Slient Node Problem Using OPNET

        The Information & Communication Technology (ICT) and the Internet of Things (IoT) have become the major issues in Republic of Korea recently. While RS-232, Zigbee, and WiFi-related technologies are used in the ICT-based systems, we focus on the Power Line Communication (PLC) in this paper. By carrying out OPNET simulations, we've implemented the PLC Router Node Model, PLC Terminal Node Model, PLC Link Model, and PLC Palette Model and executed the simulations arranging 20 holds within the range of 400m (20m apart). As a result, we confirmed that the slient node problem had occurred at the point of 200m-2000m (as of 2016) distance preventing further communications. However, the control group, by contrast, was able to carry out the communications by installing a router. We expect that this paper will contribute to the development of a foundation technology which will saves costs by performing the simulation prior to building actual large-scale ICT Complex in the future work.

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate PNF exercises for balance ability in elderly. Methods: This is a literature study with books and articles. Results: The balance ability in elderly is reduced by decreasing proprioception, visual and vestibular sensation. PNF exercise is highly efficient for functional activities to control posture and movement. It is also highly efficient for balance ability in elderly. This is considered effective exercise program for maintain and to promote balance ability in elderly. Conclusion: PNF exercise is highly efficient for functional activities to control posture and movement. In addition, it is also efficient for balancing posture and movement in cooperation with visual information and vestibular system. This exercise is considered to be effective exercise program to maintain posture and improve balance ability.

      • Typhoid Vi Capsular Polysaccharide Vaccine의 임상시험에 관한 연구

        목적 : 장티푸스 예방 접종 중 살모넬라 Ty2 균주에서 강력한 항원성을 갖는 Vi 협막성 다당질항원을 분리 정제한 백신이 국내에서 개발된 바 그 효능과 부작용에 대하여 알아보고자 이 연구를 시행하였다. 대상 및 방법 : 1993년 4월부터 1995년 4월까지 주식회사 녹십자의 타이포박스®를 경남 울산군소재 애리원생 86명을 대상으로 접종 전과 접종 후 1개월, 3개월 및 12개월에 혈액 3㎖를 채취하여 혈청을 분리하고, 이를 녹십자 종합연구소에 의뢰하여 수동혈구응집반응법(passive hemagglutination)으로 Vi 항체가를 측정하였다 결과 : 예방 접종 후 Vi 항체의 양성율은 1개월에 96.5%(검사 대상 86례 중 83례), 3개월에 96.5%(86례 중 83례), 12개월에 96.4%(86례 중 81례)였으며 부작용으로는 경미한 국소 발적 반응과 경한 통증이 각각 5례, 경한 발열이 2례에서 있었다. 결론 : Vi 협막성 다당질 항원을 분리 정제한 타이포박스®는 접종 후 높은 항체가와 경미한 부작용을 나타내어 장티푸스 예방 접종 주사로서의 임상적 가치가 높다고 사료된다. Purpose : Recently, Vi capsular polysaccharide from Salmonella typhi Ty2 has been purified and manufactured as a vaccine(Typhovax®, Korea Green Cross) in Korea. To evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of Vi capsular polysaccharide vaccine this study was performed. Methods : A single dose of 0.5㎖(25㎍) was injected subcutaneously to 86 persons aged 8-44 years. Anti-Vi antibody titers were measured by passive hemagglutinarion test before and 1, 3, and 12 months after vaccination. Results : The rate of seroconversion was 96.5% at 1 month after vaccination. The antibody titers were sustained for at least 12 months. Transient local reactions, including pain and erythema, were noted in 5 cases(5.8%) and mild fever was developed in two cases(2.3%). Conclusions : To see whether this acquired level of Vi antibody titers protects infection from typhoid fever and the elevated level of Vi antibody titers persists, further clinical and epidemiological studies would be required.

        Adult-Onset Juvenile Xanthogranuloma of the External Auditory Canal: A Case Report

        Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) is a benign, spontaneously regressing lesion that usually occurs during the first year of life, but may also occur in adulthood. Although the most common presentation of JXG is the cutaneous lesion, it can also manifest in various visceral organs. JXG of the external auditory canal is extremely rare, and there have been only a few reports of those cases in the English literature. In this study, we present a case of pathologically proven JXG that occurred in the external auditory canal with a symptomatic clinical presentation.

        Digitalization of Seafarer's Book for Authentication and e-Navigation

        Currently, the crew working on a ship is required to carry a seafarer's book in most countries around the world,including the Republic of Korea (ROK). Yet, many fishermen working in the international waters of the ROKdo not abide by this rule as the procedure of obtaining it is rather inconvenient or they do not understand thenecessity or the benefits of having it. Also, as the regulation of carrying the certificate has been strengthened, itis important for them to avoid making a criminal record unintentionally. This study discusses the digitalizationof the seafarer’s book based on several security measures in addition to BLE Beacon-based positioningtechnology, which can be useful for the e-Navigation. Normally, seamen’s certificates are recorded by thecaptain, medical institution, or issuing authority and then kept in an onboard safe or a certificate cabinet. Thematerial of the certificates is a cloth that can withstand salinity as the certificate could be contaminated by mold. In the past, the captains and their crews were uncooperative when the ROK’s maritime police tried to inspectseveral ships simultaneously because of the time and cost involved. Thus, a system with which the maritimepolice will be able to conveniently manage the crews is proposed.
