Korean society is in the middle of changing itself into multicultural society. In this era, the purpose of this study is to suggest new directions of unification education in the school. To cope with the new demands of multicultural society, it is desirable that unification education in the schools emphasize the unity in our society as the content of unification education. Unification education in the schools make students think unification as a process rather than a product. It is certain that the unified nation-state after national unification seek after the harmony of unity and diversity based on multicultural societal integration. Thus, school education in the school should focus on cultivating sense of open nationalism, multicultural citizenship, multicultural competencies, and global citizenship among the students. 이 논문의 목적은 다문화 사회에서 학교 통일교육이 지향해야 할 방향과 과제를 제시하는 것이다. 다문화 사회는 다양성과 통일성의 조화를 통하여 사회를 통합하고 국가 발전을 이루어야 하는 과제를 안고 있다. 이러한 과제를 달성하기 위해 다문화 사회에서 학교 통일교육은 학생들로 하여금 ‘우리 안의 통일’을 중시하고, 통일을 결과가 아닌 ‘과정’으로 파악할 수 있는 능력을 계발할 수 있도록 해야 한다. 통일 국가의 사회통합에 있어서 동화주의적 방식보다는 다문화주의적 사회통합이 더욱 바람직하므로, 학교생활의 모든 측면을 통해 실시되어야 할 기본교육으로서의 학교 통일교육은 다문화 시민을 육성한다는 차원에서 재정립될 필요가 있다. 아울러 학교 통일교육은 열린 민족주의 의식을 계발하고, 다문화 시민성을 함양하며, 다문화 역량을 계발하고, 세계시민의식을 함양하는데 초점을 맞추어야 한다.

싱가포르의 사회통합교육 - 도덕과교육에의 시사점을 중심으로 -

The purpose of this paper was to investigate the implications of the education for social integration in Singapore to the moral education in Korea. ‘National Education’ and ‘Civics & Moral education’ try to reach the harmony between diversity and unity in Singapore. ‘National Education’ is part of a holistic education. It aims to develop national cohesion, cultivate the instinct for survival as a nation and instil in our students, confidence in our nation's future. ‘Civics & Moral education’ as a separate subject matter for moral education in Singapore is designed to anchor students in sound moral principles. Education for social integration in Singapore focus on developing multicultural citizenship. It aims to develop a sense of emotional belonging and commitment to the community and nation. The Singaporean experience for coping with the challenges of multicultural age can be helpful for us to reorient our moral education. 이 논문은 다문화 사회 기반 구축을 위한 한 방안으로서 싱가포르의 사회통합교육의 사례를 분 석해보고, 우리나라 도덕과교육에 대한 시사점을 밝히는 데 목적을 두었다. 싱가포르의 사회통합교 육은 국가 차원에서 싱가포르가 지향해야 할 이념과 가치들을 분명히 설정하고, ‘국민교육’과 ‘공민 과 도덕교육’을 통해 그러한 이념과 가치들을 체계적으로 구현하고 있다는 점, 다양성을 보장하고 인정하면서도 사회통합을 강조함으로써 통합성 안에서의 다양성을 추구하고 있다는 점, 싱가포르의 사회통합교육 체제로서 ‘국민교육’과 ‘공민과 도덕교육’은 국가 정체성 함양을 위한 충분한 교육 시 수와 더불어 통합적 접근을 활용하고 있다는 점, 사회적 응집성 제고를 위해 싱가포르 국민들이 합 의할 수 있는 공통의 다문화적 유산을 사화통합교육의 핵심 내용으로 삼고 있다는 점 등에서 다문 화 사회에서 우리의 도덕과교육의 방향을 설정하는데 많은 도움을 줄 수 있다.

매우 유덕하고 칭찬을 받을만한 혹은 초인적인 방식에서 행동하는 사람들을 관찰할 때, 우리는 고양이라는 긍정적인 도덕 정서를 경험한다. 고양을 경험한 사람들은 자신에게서 무언가 상승된 느낌이 들고, 인간에 대해 낙관적으로 생각하며, 가슴 속의 온기를 풍부하게 느끼게 된다. 또한 그들은 타인을 도와주려는 욕망과 더불어 앞으로 자신이 더 나은 사람이 되겠다는 강한 포부와 열정을 갖게 된다. 그러므로 고양은 도덕적 행동을 매개할 수 있는 매우 중요한 긍정적인 도덕 정서이다. 하지만 긍정적인 도덕 정서로서의 고양에 관한 연구는 아직 초창기라서 국내외적으로 연구 결과가 많이 축적되어 있지 못한 상태이다. 이에 이 논문에서는 고양에 관한 지금까지의 연구 결과들에 대한 분석을 토대로 하여, 도덕교육에서 고양의 함의에 대해 살펴보았다. 이 논문에서는 긍정적인 도덕 정서로서의 고양의 의미와 효과에 대해 살펴보고, 도덕교육에서 고양이 중요한 이유를 도덕적 면허의 상쇄 효과라는 측면에서 규명하며, 도덕교육에서 학생들의 고양 경험을 증진하기 위한 방안을 제안하였다. Observing acts of moral virtues triggers moral elevation, a distinct emotion characterized by a sense of feeling morally uplifted and inspired. Elevation is the positive emotion elicited when observing others behaving in particularly virtuous, commendable, or superhuman way. Those who were in a state of elevation reported warm, pleasant, tingling feelings on their chest. They also felt open to other people as their attention turned outward, and they felt motivation to help others and to become better people themselves. Furthermore, elevation triggers prosocial motivation, positive emotion, and helping behavior. However, researches on elevation are not abundant in both domestic and foreign journals. In this regard, this article aimed to explore the implications of elevation to moral education. Based on a literature review, this article showed the meaning and effects of elevation, argued for the importance of elevation in avoiding moral licensing, and finally suggested the desirable way of promoting elevation among students. It is for us very important to acknowledge that elevation provides a special opportunity to turn students' core moral values into action.
