Life Cycle Assessment is systematic methodology for an analysis of environmental load during entire product life cycle and evaluation of potential environmental effects. It can be useful to eco-design and dealing with environmental regulation. However, general LCA process requires a lot of money and times to collect related data and information. Although studies have been made on the streamlined LCA to overcome above limits, they still cannot be applied into early stage of product design. For this reason, existing method are not able to carry out active eco-design from the early design stage. Therefore, we will propose the approximated LCA methodology which can be applicable to early stage of product design and systematic selective-LCA methodology after detail design stage. For an approximated LCA, Environmental Character Evaluation Matrix (ECEM) and Case-based Reasoning system using FBSe expression was developed. This CBR system can be applied to each design stage for referring the LCA result of product or part/module. Also, the concept of relative importance was introduced to select import parts/modules considered in selective LCA. A case study using mobile phone shows the proposed SLCA methodology can be applicable to eco-product design effectively.

Body-on-frame type vehicle has a set of frame bushes between body and frame for vibration isolation. Such frame bushes are important vibration transmission paths to passenger space for excitations during driving. In order to reduce the vibration level of passenger space, therefore, change of complex stiffness of the frame bushes is more efficient than modification of other parts of the vehicle such as body, frame and suspension. The purpose of this study is to reduce the vibration level for ride comfort by optimization of complex stiffness of frame bushes. In order to do this, a simple finite element vehicle model was constructed and complex stiffness of the frame bushes was set to be design variables. The objective function was defined to reflect frequency dependence of passenger ride comfort. Genetic algorithm and sub-structure synthesis were applied for minimization of the objective function. After optimization level at a position of interest on the car body was reduced by about 43.7 % in RMS value. Causes for optimization results are discussed.

The concern with plant O&M (Operation and Maintenance) solutions has been growing for the last several years to increase continuous operation and to save operation cost. In order to maximize the effect of O&M applications, sensor-based integrated virtual plant platform is necessary. We therefore propose sensor-based virtual plant platform with virtual · simulation technology. In terms of sensor based plant O&M, key functions can be classified into four functions: process management, instrument management, structural safety management and maintenance guide. We discuss the outline of each functions and interconnectivity of them with simple UI of integrated SW. Finally, application plan of smart virtual plant platform in the virtual plant operation room with several monitors is proposed.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to find the location of acupoints that are effective for increasing parasympathetic nervous system(PNS) activity among acupoints used to relieve symptoms such as dizziness and nausea. Materials and Methods: Twenty healthy adult men participated in this experiment. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS) was applied to P6(Neiguan), ST36(Zusanli) and BL20(Pishu) for 30 minutes. For 5 minutes before and after stimulation, Electrocardiogram(ECG), Electrodermal activity(EDA), Respiration, and Skin temperature(SKT) were measured using biosignalsplux Professional(biosignalsplux; Portugal). Paired t-test was performed for the results before and after stimulation, and a one-way ANOVA test between stimulations was performed for the rate of change before and after stimulation. Results: When each acupoint was stimulated with TENS, it was found that the PNS was generally activated. In addition, when considering the change in biosignals after stimulation, the participants stimulated with P6 showed the most consistent results. Conclusion: As a result of stimulating each acupoint, it was found that stimulating P6 can effectively increase PNS activity. These results indicate that methods of stimulating P6 may be most effective in alleviating symptoms of motion sickness.

In the Product Design stage, it is essential to analyze the customer’s needs. And, to analyze them we have to summarize the customer’s opinions. But, it is very difficult because the product reviews is unstructured text. So, In this thesis, we propose an Effective Product Design Methodology based on Sentiment Analysis of Unstructured Text. We will use Latent Semantic Analysis to search the latent relations of the features. And, to define the initial sentiment values, we will use the SentiWordNet. We will define the features and sentiment words. Also, we will represent the patterns in the unstructured text.

When engineers design the product, it is essential to consider both function and performance of the product. Also, it must be clearly understood about what functions do customers prefer and what level of performance they need. Product reviews are the representative writings including these contexts about the customer needs. Since product reviews includes customer’s opinion about product feature, it is the vital elements to analyze the customer’s needs. Previous researches for analyzing customer reviews are mostly about the classification of the reviews’ polarity. In view of product design, it is more important to consider the information about how much they prefer the product feature. Therefore we propose a methodology of text processing and semantic analysis based on product feature for applying to product design. First, we analyze the sentences with the methodology of text processing and semantic analysis. And then, we extract the product features about the function and performance of product. And in this paper, to verify the suggested methodology, we collects the customer reviews about the tire. After extracting product feature and sentiment word with the collected reviews, we construct new algorithm which calculates sentiment value of product feature by using SentiWordNet.

Drunk driving defines a driver as unable to drive a vehicle safely due to drinking. To crack down on drunk driving, alcohol concentration evaluates through breathing and crack down on drinking using S-shaped courses. A method for assessing drunk driving without using BAC or BrAC is measurement via biosignal. Depending on the individual specificity of drinking, alcohol evaluation studies through various biosignals need to be conducted. In this study, we measure biosignals that are related to alcohol concentration, predict BrAC through SVM, and verify the effectiveness of the S-shaped course. Participants were 8 men who have a driving license. Subjects conducted a d2 test and a scenario evaluation of driving an S-shaped course when they attained BrAC’s certain criteria. We utilized SVR to predict BrAC via biosignals. Statistical analysis used a one-way Anova test. Depending on the amount of drinking, there was a tendency to increase pupil size, HR, normLF, skin conductivity, body temperature, SE, and speed, while normHF tended to decrease. There was no apparent change in the respiratory rate and TN-E. The result of the D2 test tended to increase from 0.03% and decrease from 0.08%. Measured biosignals have enabled BrAC predictions using SVR models to obtain high Figs in primary and secondary cross-validations. In this study, we were able to predict BrAC through changes in biosignals and SVMs depending on alcohol concentration and verified the effectiveness of the S-shaped course drinking control method.
