The pH of red ginseng extracts fermented with Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Saccharomyces carlsbergensis decreased rapidly during 3 days of fermentation, with no further significant change thereafter. After 20 days of fermentation, a relatively small difference remained in the acidity of extracts fermented with S. cerevisiae (0.54%)and S. carlsbergensis (0.58%). Reducing sugar in the S. cerevisiae and S. carlsbergensis extracts decreased from 258.6 to 45.4 and 43.2 mg/mL glucose equivalents,respectively; and ethanol contents increased from 1.5% at day 0 to 16.0 and 15.0%, respectively, at day 20. Ginsenosides Rb_1, Rb_2, Rc, Re, Rf, and Rg_1 decreased during the fermentation with S. cerevisiae, but Rd and Rg_3 increased by day 12. Ginsenosides Rb_1, Rb_2, Rc, Re, and Rg_1decreased gradually in the extract with S. carlsbergensis,but Rd and Rg_3 were increased at day 6 and 9, respectively.
구글 티처블머신을 활용한 보이스피싱 예방 STEAM 프로그램 개발

보이스피싱의 피해 가능성이 높은 대상은 범죄의 대처가 미흡한 미성년자이며, 그 중에서도 스마트폰을 많이 사용하는 중학생이다. 보이스피싱은 범죄 특성상 예방이 중요하므로, 사전 예방 교육이 매우 중요하다. 본 연구는 중학생 대상으로 보이스피싱 예방을 위한 STEAM 프로그램을 제안한다. 제안 프로그램에서 보이스피싱 예방을 학습하기 위해, 웹 기반의 음성인식이 가능한 구글의 티처블머신을 실습 도구로 사용한다. 따라서 프로그램을 통해 보이스피싱 예방법 뿐 아니라, 인공지능의 음성인식 기술도 학습 가능하다. 개발된 프로그램은 M 중학교의 125명을 대상으로 보이스피싱 예방 교육에 활용되었다. 사전·후 태도 검사 결과, 수학 교과의 “유용성/가치 인식”과 과학 교과의 “자아개념”, “이공계 진로선택”에 대하여 긍정적 인식이 가장 높은 증가율을 보였다. 프로그램 만족도 조사의 경우 “흥미”에 대한 점수가 가장 높게 측정되었다. 추후 제안 프로그램의 완성도를 높여 중학교 범죄 예방 교육에 활발히 활용되기를 기대한다. The main targets of voice phishing are people under age, and among them, teenagers using smartphones are most vulnerable. Given the characteristics of voice phishing, advanced prevention is essential; thus, prevention education should be preceded. This study proposes a STEAM program to educate prevention of voice phishing for middle school students. We utilize Google's Teachable Machine based on web-based voice recognition in the proposed program, which facilitates education regarding artificial intelligence and voice-phishing prevention at once. The developed program was applied to 125 students of the appointed middle school. As a result of the pre-and post-attitude survey, the following three items had the highest positive increase rate: "Usefulness/value perception" in mathematics and "Self-concept" and "Scientific and engineering career choice" in science. In the satisfaction survey, "Interest" was one of the most positively measured items. We expect that the proposed program will be actively used for voice-phishing prevention in schools.
Anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities of devil’s club (Oplopanax horridus) leaves

This study aimed to investigate the anti-oxidative properties of the ethanolic extracts of the devil’s club (Oplopanax horridus) leaves, stems, and roots. Furthermore, the anti-inflammatory activity of the leaf extract was analyzed. The leaf extract had higher total phenolic and flavonoid contents and anti-oxidative activity (radical scavenging, reducing power, and inhibition of lipid oxidation) than the root and stem extracts. The leaf extract also had anti-inflammatory effects. It significantly reduced lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO; 71.0% at 50 μg/mL), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α (87.6% at 100 μg/mL), and interleukin (IL)-6 (36.2% at 100 μg/mL) production in murine RAW 264.7 macrophages. Furthermore, LPS-induced inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression was decreased by the leaf extract (IC50=24.4 μg/mL). The ultra performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector (UPLC-DAD) analysis showed that the leaf extract contained gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, chlorogenic acid, and maltol. These findings suggest that the leaf extract could be utilized as a functional food material because of its anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities.

The anti-inflammatory activity of 4 plant extracts [guava (Psidium guajava) leaf, capillary wormwood (Artemisia capillaris Thunb.), Chinese goldthread (Coptis chinensis), and dandelion (Taraxacum platycarpum)] was investigated in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Six phenolic compounds (gallic acid, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, catechin, quercetin, and baicalin)were analyzed using LC-MS/MS. Guava leaf extracts showed the highest inhibitory effects on LPS-induced nitric oxide (NO, 52.58%) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2, 43.45%)production. The total phenolic contents (TPC) in guava leaf, capillary wormwood, Chinese goldthread, and dandelion were 426.84, 154.42, 41.73, and 122.04 mg of gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g of extract, respectively. TPC was positively correlated with the NO-inhibitory effect (r=0.963, p<0.05) and the PGE2-inhibitory effect (r=0.971,p<0.05) at 30 μg/mL of treatment. The guava leaf extracts contained the highest levels of gallic acid and catechin,while the capillary wormwood extracts contained the highest levels of chlorogenic acid and quercetin.

Objective:The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between late-life depression and resilience in the Korean community-dwelling elderly with depression. Methods:The subjects were 102 depressed elderly people who lived in Suwon and Gwangju, Korea. Each subject was administered the questionnaires regarding the socio-demographic characteristics, Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination for Dementia Screening (MMSE-DS), Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), and Short Form Geriatric Depression Scale-Korean version (SGDS-K). Results:In a cross-sectional aspect, BRS score were negatively correlated with SGDS-K score in the Pearson’s correlation test (r=-0.301, p=0.002). After multivariable adjustments, linear mixed model analysis showed that subjects with baseline higher BRS score had significantly lesser SGDS-K score (β=-0.16, p=0.006). Conclusion:The level of resilience should be considered in predicting the change of depressive symptoms in the elderly.

This study aims to investigate the effect of syllable position on the articulation of English obstruents produced by Korean learners of English and English native speakers. It has been found that segmental properties are affected by prosodic position. However, it is uncertain how the acoustic properties depending on different syllable positions are different between native speakers and L2 learners. The results of present study indicate that for English speakers and Korean learners of English, F2 onset/offset and RMS burst energy for stops are enhanced in syllable initial position. In the results of duration, Korean learners produce longer fricatives in syllable final position than in initial position, while English speakers do not show consistent pattern between the two different syllable positions. The present study provides evidence that Korean learners of English show syllable dependant properties in the articulation of English consonants. However, the enhancing strategies are found to be different across language groups and segment categories.
