To find out the safety problems in children's play apparatus(slider), several structural and physical characteristics of sliders including surface temperature, surface friction of sliding boards were measured and compared between the board materials. As a result, it was found that Carbon Steel board had irregular friction characteristics but Stainless Steel and FRP boards had more proper' resisting power. And the difference of surface temperature from the air temperature in each material found to be the order of Carbon Steel>STS>FRP, and the slide boards toward south to be higher temperature than east-west oriented ones. As a additional result, we found that over 30% of sliding boards were installed with the angle of 30 degree sliding slope, and most sliders the angle of 70 degree in step slope, on the contrary to recommended safety standards.

To develop the amenity and safety factor as some standards for play apparatus design, heat characteristics of play apparatus materials were studied. Major focuses were on the related-affection of body from the surface temperature of each material. For this study, 7 kinds of materials were selected and surface temperature of 3 seasons(spring, summer, winter) were measured from the play apparatus installed on apartment's play grounds in Chongju. The results are summarized as followes; 1) The materials of rubber and iron representd higher relative-surface temperature in spring and summer than in winter; 2) In summer season, the temperature of materials rose to human's endurance limit-temperature(46℃) and injury minimum temperature(44℃) on that, infants and children could suffered injuries by using the play apparatus. 3) Considering the limitation of skin-temperature for sensing amenity, most materials except FRP and lumber represented bad heat environment(heat-stress, pain) in summer
