A Review of Exercise Intervention Research on Timing of Treatment in Cancer Patients

Vol.33 No.2

Surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy are common treatments for many cancer patients, and these treatments are associated with side effects. Exercise has been reported to be an effective way to reduce side effects during and after treatment for cancer patients. Regular exercise has been demonstrated to enhance muscle strength, diminish fatigue, and alleviate energy depletion, a prevalent side effect of chemotherapy. This treatment also improves patients' overall physical well-being. Additionally, exercise exerts a direct impact on tumour suppression and immune system strengthening. The efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy in cancer patients can be enhanced by the incorporation of an appropriate exercise programme. Further investigation is required to elucidate the specific types and intensity of exercise that are most beneficial for cancer patients. The development of bespoke exercise programmes by healthcare providers can effectively support cancer patients in managing their treatment and improving their overall quality of life. Additionally, research has indicated that exercise can enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. Despite these promising findings, there is a paucity of research on exercise interventions according to the timing of chemotherapy in Korea. The objective of this study is to analyse the effects of exercise interventions following surgery, during and after chemotherapy, and to investigate the potential of exercise as a treatment for cancer patients.

Role of T-type Ca2+ Channels in the Spontaneous Phasic Contraction of Pregnant Rat Uterine Smooth Muscle

2009 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.13 No.3

Although extracellular Ca2+ entry through the voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels plays an important role in the spontaneous phasic contractions of the pregnant rat myometrium, the role of the T-type Ca2+ channels has yet to be fully identified. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of the T-type Ca2+ channel in the spontaneous phasic contractions of the rat myometrium. Spontaneous phasic contractions and [Ca2+]i were measured simultaneously in the longitudinal strips of female Sprague-Dawley rats late in their pregnancy (on day 18∼20 of gestation: term=22 days). The expression of T-type Ca2+ channel mRNAs or protein levels was measured. Cumulative addition of low concentrations (<1μM) of nifedipine, a L-type Ca2+ channel blocker, produced a decrease in the amplitude of the spontaneous Ca2+ transients and contractions with no significant change in frequency. The mRNAs and proteins encoding two subunits (α1G, α1H) of the T-type Ca2+ channels were expressed in longitudinal muscle layer of rat myometrium. Cumulative addition of mibefradil, NNC 55-0396 or nickel induced a concentration-dependent inhibition of the amplitude and frequency of the spontaneous Ca2+ transients and contractions. Mibefradil, NNC 55-0396 or nickel also attenuated the slope of rising phase of spontaneous Ca2+ transients consistent with the reduction of the frequency. It is concluded that T-type Ca2+ channels are expressed in the pregnant rat myometrium and may play a key role for the regulation of the frequency of spontaneous phasic contractions.

Vol.12 No.2

From Roman law to modern law, especially before the industrial revolution of the 19th century, human beings generally used surface in land use and exercised land ownership over land. In the sense that there was only one ownership or right to use on a single land, the concept of modern spatiality means that human land legislation has been converted from plane to three-dimensional space. With the emergence of the theory of Air Space Right starting with the U.S., the theory of Air Space Right has been introduced in Korea since the mid-1980s, but it was an unfamiliar concept since there were no cases of the use of the right. In 2007, when the Act was enacted, China introduced the term "Construction Land Use Right" and introduced regulations that separate the upper and lower levels of land from land ownership into the independent property rights. This is in line with the legal necessity to strengthen property rights in space. According to the legal necessity of strengthening property rights in underground spaces, areas with developed Chinese economy already have the economic and technical conditions necessary to develop and use underground spaces. The national territory resource administration is also making efforts to establish regulations as soon as possible regarding the management of property rights for underground space use. In the event that underground space becomes a scarce land resource, the relationship of property rights should be clarified through legislation. Research for legislation in relation to the management of the property rights of various underground spaces is actively carried out by regulating the development and use of underground space, promoting sustainable use of underground space resources, and establishing a resource-saving society. This study focuses on underground space, which is the subject of space, in the air space and in the underground space. In terms of finding ways to overcome the rapid urbanization of high-level economic growth, such as the high-speed underground road and the SRT project, China's efforts to utilize underground space is not a problem of Korea alone but a global economy. Based on this social phenomenon, this paper explores the current legal system and problems related to underground space in China.

A Study on the Relationship between Side Effects, Quality of Life, and Myokine in Gastric Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

Vol.32 No.4

Gastric cancer is a major global health problem in East Asian countries. Although anticancer drugs can have beneficial effects in treating cancer, they can exacerbate chemotherapy side effects and cachexia symptoms in gastric cancer patients. Various side effects reduce the patient's quality of life, and experts report that quality of life should be improved as a key factor in treatment decisions. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between myokine secreted from muscles, anticancer side effects, and quality of life. Side effects, quality of life, and myokine were measured twice during the period of chemotherapy in 9 subjects. As a result, there was no correlation between myokine and side effects, but there was a correlation between overall function and cognitive function in quality of life. It is considered that a large-scale study subject and mechanism study on myokine are needed in the future.
