Culture as shared norms is consciously and unconsciously learned by people and transmitted to next generation. Accordingly, culture is influential in forming people`s values and attitudes toward their society and nation. Nevertheless, the study of cultural influence on political attitudes has been neglected due to its definitional ambiguity and measurement difficulty. This study tries to respond to this gap by analyzing people`s individual and collective cultural orientations that affect their social participation and compliance to public authority. Using the National Identity Survey Data of East Asia Institute, we ran hierarchical regression analysis examining the causal effects of social participation and cultural orientations upon people`s acceptance of public authority, and subsequently their moderating effects on dependent variable. Our results show that people tend to accept public authority the more they participate in civic associations, the more they have collectivist values, and the more they engage in group oriented and hierarchical social relations. Mediating effects of cultural factors are validated in different directions. Socially active people tend to accept public authority less when they hold collectivist individual values. But, they confirm to public authority more when they are put into hierarchical social situations. This study suggests that increasing people`s social participation is desirable for reducing high transaction costs deriving from noncompliance to public authority.

Recently, ``Faith-Based Organization(FBO)`` has attracted a fair amount of attention all over the world. In Korea, FBOs have had considerable impacts on society. Curiously, despite the rise of social influence of FBOs, few studies have been devoted to the research according FBOs of Korea. Thus, this paper has the purpose to explore the organization characteristics of FBOs in Korea, and attempt to make a classification of Korea`s FBOs. For this classification, this paper conducted case study on Korea`s FBO, employing an organization frame of Ronald J. Sider & Heidi Rolland Unruh. The findings of the study indicate that: Firstly, in Korea, there is the total of 312 organizations. Specifically, the largest of FBOs is the Christian religion. Secondly, the result from case study shows that the Korea World Vision which is one of the most popular INGOs is at between faith-centered and faith-affiliated in terms of organization characteristics. But the Good Neighbors is at between faith-affiliated and faith-background and the Korea Save the Children is at Secular. Therefore ``faith`` is considerable influence on operating of the organization in FBOs, especially based on Christian religion. On the other hand, the Korea World Vision and Good Neighbors are at between faith-affiliated and faith-background. This research suggests an implication about development direction of academic and policy of FBOs in Korea.

This study measures Koreans’ perceptions of social conflicts and analyzes the differences in causes and managements of conflict types. On average, the level of social conflicts citizens perceive is above 3 on the 5-point Likert scale and the levels of public and regional conflicts are lower than other types. Citizens are often exposed to conflict issues regarding socioeconomic status consider social conflicts as much more serious problems. The research found that there are significant differences in causes and managements in terms of social stratification, public, regional, and ideological conflict. These results show, to understand causes of conflict, it is helpful to consider interaction attributes among stakeholders based on the socioeconomic structure. In addition, our findings imply that Korean government needs to focus on the strategic managements by conflict types.

This study analyzes the factors affecting Korean voters` perceptions on for citizen activists becoming members of the National Assembly. According to the 2012 Survey data, overall perceptions were favorable. Women, who supported the opposition parties during the Lee Myung-bak Government and had the intention to become a member of a civil society organization, tended to support the citizen activists` entry to the Naional Assembly. Voters, who supported the ruling party or had participated or would be willing to participate in a peaceful protest, also showed the favorable attitude. On the contrary, only half of voters who supported the ruling party or did have no specific party to support and had no intention to participate in a peaceful protest, remain to support citizen activists becoming their representative. Opposition party supporters unsatisfied with political parties were also less favorable. Among the hypothesized factors that can affect voters` perceptions, government trust measured through the trust in President was irrelevant. As expected, voters` active political participation was positively related with their favorable attitude. Against our hypothesis, on the other hand, the more voters were satisfied with the National Assembly the more they supported citizen activists` entry to the National Assembly. This finding suggests that civil society organizations are better to collaborate with the Assembly, rather than simply criticizing and only monitoring its performance, if they want their activists become the members of the National Assembly.

Trust in government has declined gradually in the Republic of Korea in recent times. For this reason, many scholars have focused on social capital to explain this situation. However, many studies reveal that social capital has an uneven effect on trust in government. This unevenness suggests the existence of some mediating variables between social capital and trust in government. We postulated that the social justice perceptions of people could play such a role, as many people regard social justice as essential in today’s politics. Our analysis finds that, first, among the social capital variables, social trust had only a direct effect on trust in government. Second, social trust, social participation, and the sense of local community influenced social justice perception, which is a mediator variable. Third, social capital (social trust, social participation, and a sense of local community) had an indirect effect on trust in government through social justice. Based on our research, we suggest the following implications: people need to believe that justice prevails if social capital boosts trust in government. Accordingly, the government needs to nurture a just social system, guaranteeing fairer social opportunities and distributional benefits.

This research aims to investigate the distinctive relationship between trust in supervisor, person-organization fit, and organizational commitment drawing upon a social exchange perspective. Starting from a premise that positive exchange is a key antecedent condition for a trustful organizational relationship, this study explores how and to what extent employee`s trust in their supervisor affect person-organization fit and subsequently the three components of organizational commitment―affective, continuance, and normative commitment. Employing the 2015 Public Sector Entrepreneurship Survey in Korea, this study empirically determines the direct and indirect relationships among variables in the hypothesized model. The results suggest that the more the employees are prone to trust their supervisor, the higher person-organization fit and normative commitment will be. Also, this study reveals that person-organization fit mediates the association between trust in supervisor and affective, continuance, and normative commitment. Considering the context of Korean public sector organization, implications for public management are elaborated in the concluding section where the study`s limitations and recommendations for future research are also discussed.
