The Confucian culture and thoughts from Jungian viewpoint
李符永 성균관대학교 유교문화연구소 2001 儒敎文化硏究(中文版) Vol.1 No.-
During the 500 years of the Joseon Dynasty, Confucianism became the only moral norm and institutionalized as a tool that governed ideology. Group norms have been emphasized through unconditional obedience and severe repression of individuals. In the process of rapid transition to an industrial society, there is a conflict between the conservative tendency of the old generation to adhere to traditional Confucianism, such as patriarchal consciousness, male superiority, and female inferiority, and the tendency to pursue individual freedom in the new era. In particular, this ambiguity and confusion among the middle-aged and older men experience profound contradictions and even threaten their physical and mental health. However, upon closer examination of typical cases, it is easy to see that most of these conflicts are not from Confucianism, but from traditional thoughts, attitudes, misunderstandings and stubborn social customs. Therefore, this article argues that it is necessary to re-understand Confucianism's unique humanistic spirit, respect for personality, self-aware attitude toward self-development and governance, and awe of transcendence in the distorted cultural atmosphere of Confucianism. A reinterpretation that fits the hearts of modern Koreans is needed. [Article in Chinese]
