        이돈일 ( Lee¸ Donil ) 한국공간디자인학회 2020 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.15 No.6

(Background and Purpose) The recent recession in the construction market due to the recent economic downturn caused by the pendemic and the reinforcement of real estate policies, and the implementation of redevelopment and reconstruction is uncertain, the remodeling market is attracting attention as a new promising market rather than new construction. As for the trend of remodeling, there is a strong tendency to pursue interiors that fit the lifestyle, and among them, bathroom design is becoming more important. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a bathroom space that meets the economic advantage and new trend by designing a bathroom package for each target that can meet the diverse needs of consumers.(Method) First, market analysis is conducted to analyze major trends in the domestic bathroom market to be considered when constructing a package, and through Competitor Analysis, the direction of domestic competitors according to the domestic competitors trend is investigated. Investigate best practices for discriminatory composition. Next, we define how the direction of the package to be proceeded in the future should be defined, analyze the needs by setting a target through Target Analysis & Design Strategy, and propose a design by establishing the package composition and design direction through this. (Results) Among the major factors influencing consumers' bathroom purchases, age, household income, lifestyle, etc., which can make a difference in design and product composition, were set as classification criteria. As a result, the customer group was the characteristics of bathroom consumers, consumption power, and size of the customer group. It can be seen that it is divided into 7 types according to. Through this, the concept of “Comprehensive Deployment with Premium” is used to secure the differentiation of package design, and the package is configured so that consumers can recognize clearly differentiated values, and the design is designed so that the awareness of changing bathrooms and lifestyle are incorporated into the package. (Conclusions) The design proposal was to satisfy the needs of 7 targets by configuring 3 types of packages for each line. First, the high-priced package line implemented the atmosphere and detailed products that maximize the premium image based on the functions of the existing high-priced products, and next, the mid-priced line was a differentiated lineup, strengthening the competitiveness in the B2C market, and consumers' perception of the evolving bathroom. The understanding of the lifestyle and lifestyle was sufficiently dissolved in the package to convey careful consideration and sensitivity. Lastly, the low-cost line secured diversity through clear concept definition for each package and consistent CMFP application, and sought to expand the customer base by diversifying into a uniform package product composition.

공간디자인의 환대특성에 관한 연구 -공공기관의 대면서비스 공간 중심으로 -

        이돈일 ( Lee¸ Donil ) 한국공간디자인학회 2020 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.15 No.6

(Background and Purpose of Study) The emergence of a global pandemic and the Fourth Industrial Revolution are rapidly changing the way of meeting. Although non-face-to-face contact is becoming a daily routine, face-to-face contact makes people more strongly aware of communication and experiences through real experiences, and for emotional perceptions to be remembered as favorable after meeting, mutual hospitality is fundamentally necessary. Therefore, this paper intends to present hospitality characteristics to be improved in space by deriving the characteristics in a face-to-face situation based on the face-to-face service space of public offices by focusing on the communication structure of a visitor and a host among various social interactions, embodying the structure of host hospitality through Erving Goffman's theory, and structuring the meaning of hospitality in space. (Methodology) First, the philosophical concept of hospitality is examined through theoretical review, and the structure of hospitality in the service space is examined based on the Erving Goffman's social interaction. Next, the detailed elements are extracted through the FGI (Focus Group Interview) analysis by categorizing the hospitality characteristics in space and classifying the elements according to the characteristic type from the implications of theoretical review and the results of a comparative analysis on previous studies. For verification, SPSS Ver. 22.0 was used as an analysis tool, descriptive statistics were used to find out the frequency, mean, standard deviation, and variance of each item, and reliability of the scale (Cronbach's α) and exploratory factor analysis were performed to determine final items. Finally, based on the derived characteristics and elements, this study analyzed the contact point of the interaction between a provider and a user, and structured a multiple interaction matrix to derive multiple service characteristics of hospitality in a service space. (Results) As a result of the service characteristics of hospitality examination, it was classified into human, space, program systems, and responsiveness, reliability, empathy, and kindness were derived as characteristics from the human classification. Next, accessibility, comfort, communication, and expediency were derived from the spatial classification, and promptness, convenience, accuracy and fairness were derived from the program classification, from which appropriate detailed items were derived to conduct an analytic study. Among the service characteristics of hospitality provided in space, the evaluation of kindness, communication, and promptness was the lowest. (Conclusions) If the user felt that he received hospitality from the service, hostility was formed toward the service provider whom the user encountered in person, however, in reality, there were other attributable elements. For that reason, services must be provided in an integrated frame to realize the hospitality service. In particular, if kindness, communication, and promptness are addressed first, it will be a way to change the service evaluation of the user from response to hospitality.

(Background and Purpose) In the commercial space design (CSD) development process, it is difficult to find specific operational cases that can be managed by design, design, and marketing departments. Losses and conflicts occur frequently due to such work and work vacancy. In addition, process and framework research is insufficient, as is specialized research. This study is a design development tool at the execution level for a CSD strategy and is limited to the establishment of characteristics and process utilization for the activation of CSD. Practitioners can integrate, manage, communicate, and share the CSD development process and strategy construction. The purpose of this study is to seek a new way to pursue the needs of the times and of recent commercial spaces with a design management strategy as a “collaboration platform.” It was significant to create a space business model that fits the paradigm shift in the platform to establish a CSD strategy process, and derive the elements necessary for a simple CSD for a collaboration platform to present practical application guidelines. (Method) As a process to create new value, various integrated communication processes other than consumers, companies, and designers are set, and clear factors of concepts, elements, and procedures in the design strategy process of commercial spaces are deduced to study application plans. We develop an analysis framework and analyze the distribution and frequency to verify the execution system. We further analyze the CSD strategy standards to derive objective values and present a roadmap that can be used when CSD progresses. (Results) The study’s purpose is to create a spatial business model for the paradigm change through the platform to establish the CSD strategy process and derive the factors necessary for CSD through the collaboration platform. (Conclusions) The expected effects of the framework based on the collaboration platform for the CSD strategy of this study are summarized as follows. ① Establishment process of detailed design elements through integrated thinking and communication among stakeholders. ② Shortening the time of overall design development and reducing costs by making decisions through decision-making. ③ Time sharing and communication through real-time feedback by sharing collaboration platform tools among stakeholders. ④ Establishment of a corporate identity and identity of space, progressive distribution, and selection of detailed elements of space design. ⑤ Improving the brand and company’s image according to the matching target images of actual spaces to be installed in the future as well as spaces to be designed as per consumer needs (in other words, detailed development of an open type collaboration platform that can support user participation).

(Background and Purpose) The Korean emergency medical facilities started with modern hospitals since the 1960's and urgent patient transfer began with national support, a public concept in the 1980's. The Act on Emergency Medicine was enacted in 1994 with various human disasters in the 1990's, making the starting point of the modern emergency medicine system establishment. Since then, in the 2000's, emergency medicine system became the level available for being compared with the developed countries and yet, there are other blanks such as violations and homicides against medical staffs in emergency rooms. To solve these problems, the developed countries started to solve these problems by introduction of medical service design and in Korea, general hospitals make an effort to solve emergency medical centers by applying medical service designs based on the foreign cases. Therefore, the study suggests designs for improving medical environments and medical service quality by solving various problems in emergency room through medical service design process. (Method) For research methods, based on literature and articles of emergency medical centers and medical service designs, the conceptions and the current status of regional emergency medical center are understood and necessity and importance of medical service design are figured out. By investigating the cases of medical service designs of the domestic and overseas emergency medical facilities and the medical services to be applied as well as the factors required for emergency facilities are analyzed, and then, based on them, the problems and directions of emergency facilities of Yeungnam University Medical Center are drawn and the cases of medical service designs are summarized. (Results) For the results, focusing on curing services on medical ones with medical service design in domestic and overseas cases, with medical service design, the analysis was made by applying medical information delivery, hospital environment and service, and the problems in Yeongnam University Medical Center's emergency facilities according to three were figured out and the solutions were drawn for developing and applying medical design service. (Conclusions) Regional emergency medical centers are visited by lots of patients and there are various people, with very impotance of communications among medical staffs, patients, and carers. To solve increasing violence and hate speeches, beyond simple perspectives of facilities and labors, the importance of medical service design was confirmed. Even though various problems from violation of emergency medicine laws are decreasing through medical service designs, it is just limited in the domestic university hospitals' emergency facilities. Therefore, there should be successful cases in other hospitals and clinics. Efficiency of work of medical staffs should be increased and various problems in the current emergency facilities including anxiety of patients and carers should be solved.

Vol.16 No.1

(Background and Purpose) The world has experienced periods of industrialization and urbanization. It has passed de-industrialization and is entering the information age and the fourth industrial age. Therefore modes of transportation are also rapidly changing. With the growth and development of the city, the railroad industry is also being transformed and improved to meet modern needs. As a result, most of the stations that are no longer used are neglected. We intend to revitalize abandoned stations. They have great historical significance based in the historical industrial era in Korea. Therefore, this study aims to analyze cases where place marketing has been applied and suggest ways to utilize local coexistence to create win win cooperation. (Method) Concept is divided into analysis and research. The concept and cause of abandoned stations and the concept and case of place marketing are examined in Chapter 2. Discovery and analysis of the characteristics using the case of abandoned stations as a place marketing is examined in Chapter 3. Conclusions are drawn focusing on the revitalization plans through analysis and utilizing place marketing in Chapter 4. (Results) As a result of the case analysis according to the utilization of place marketing elements, the revitalization of abandoned stations did not conform to a homogeneous plan. When various marketing directions are considered and new utilization measures are proposed, the cultural value as an abandoned station become apparent and their unique value can be rediscovered. (Conclusions) The abandoned stations have historical and cultural value beyond the existence of a single building. This is integrally related to the characteristics of the region. As a result, abandoned stations become treasured based on the history, culture, and living environment of the region. Between development and conservation, various attempts should be made to promote preservation and revitalization based on the location. Historical and sentimental values must be reflected as an adjunct to practical spatial and functional use. Based on this, local identity must be strengthened and local values must be rediscovered in conjunction with the broader plans of the region at the economic/cultural level. To this end, the abandoned station must be created as a regeneration space managed and operated within the region while establishing an organic relationship with other tourism entities. It is necessary as well, to propose a recycling plan suitable for each location. Many institutions and local governments are looking for creative ways to revitalize abandoned stations. It is acknowledged that there is a negative perception regarding abandoned stations due to a one-dimensional business development model. However, the methodology and results of this study suggest that the recognition of the historical and cultural value of these abandoned stations suggest a useful direction for revitalization centered on place marketing history.

        김민주 ( Kim Minju ),이돈일 ( Lee Donil ) 한국공간디자인학회 2023 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.18 No.8

(Background and Purpose) Everyone has a tendency to want to continue living where they live. The places where people live includes outside spaces such as parks and trails, along with the house. In Korea, 17.5% of the total population is aged 65 years or older as of 2022. Although various issues regarding aging have been discussed, clear public guidelines for older adults are lacking. Given the ever-increasing aging population, it is necessary to maintain their living base in consideration of the characteristics of the elderly and expand park sites, including improving the outdoor environment designed to be friendly to the elderly. Although the existing guidelines classify parks in detail, there are no guidelines for senior parks in the aging era. Therefore, in this study, we intend to present details about parks for the elderly and contribute to improving the outdoor environment for the elderly. (Method) This study was conducted for elderly people who want to continue living in their current residence. Rather than suggesting guidelines for new parks, we want to add elements of elderly friendly parks to existing neighborhood parks. It is hoped that these guidelines for parks will help people understand the actions and needs of the elderly and allow them to enjoy their old age without inconvenience. This research arrives at its conclusions by analyzing existing elderly parks and deriving common elements and characteristics. (Results) Based on the analysis of elderly park guidelines, four common points were found. First, these guidelines aim to maximize accessibility in terms of topography and install ramps outside the stairs so that there is no inconvenience in traffic, considering easier access for the disadvantaged. Second, to ensure the safety of citizens, appropriate lighting should be used to increase night utilization and safety. Third, the access roads and entrances of public toilets should be located in places that are convenient and easy to access. Fourth, it is necessary to help older adults avoid inconveniences in their movements. Through our analysis, we identified nine common characteristics and eight-fold common elements. (Conclusions) Although technological development and research are developing according to the aging era, there are no clear guidelines for outdoor spaces. Currently, the elderly are more interested in their health and have a strong willingness to spend their older age healthier. Therefore, with the ever-increasing aging population, it is necessary to expand park sites, including the improvement of the outdoor environment to be more elderly-friendly. Through this study, it is expected that the use of neighborhood parks will increase by presenting details that can help elderly people use them safely and comfortably.

김주아 ( Jua Kim ),이돈일 ( Donil Lee ),황용섭 ( Yongseup Hwang ) 한국공간디자인학회 2017 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.12 No.3

(Background and Purpose) Recently, the concept of rest has been clarified and the division of spaces has traditionally been distinct. In the modern working environment, the concept of rest is more complex and focused on stress responses. Meditation, a form of self-awareness of one`s own thoughts and movements, has become popular within corporate facilities and areas for meditation can be seen in corporate lounges or break rooms. This study focuses on the form of resting spaces as they change the work environment, and aims to examine the design concept and characteristics of the typical meditation space. (Method) First, this study investigates changes in design of corporate environments through a literature review before examining common features used in lounge facilities. Second, this study hopes to clarify the concept of a meditation space, determine typical characteristics of these spaces, and understand trends within this relatively new phenomenon. Third, this study collects specific examples of meditation spaces included in corporate lounges and other rest areas, analyzing the design characteristics used in these spaces. Finally, the author discusses findings and presents the importance of both concept and meaning in the designing of meditation spaces for corporate break rooms. (Result) Results of an internal and external analysis of ten different corporate meditation spaces shows that clarity is rated highest, due to ease of operation. Accessibility and convenience are also high, thanks to a successful layout that excluded unnecessary functions and inconveniences. However, diversity was the lowest rated, since the space was appropriate for a limited number of activities and opportunities, and thus failed to meet the needs of multiple groups. The meditation spaces studied also lacked any sense of heterogeneity, making it difficult to feel familiarity in these facility environments. Finally, fellowship and efficiency were low because it is often difficult to form a consensus through free communication and interaction, causing discomfort with the lack of unity. (Conclusions) Design choices made have the potential to change the work environment if meditation spaces are thoughtfully planned. Characteristics of meditation spaces should reflect its physical elements (efficiency, accessibility, clarity, convenience, diversity), psychological considerations (comfort, balance, affection, agreement, fellowship), and environmental factors. These spaces should also be sustainable and considerate of various types of users. This study suggests that providing meditation spaces in corporate lounges decreases employee reports of stress, both in regards to work stressors and interpersonal relationships, and improves work efficiency by providing an employee area that encourages mental and physically comfort. Further, increased efficiency is often linked to an increase in productivity, which can have positive effects on the local economy and lead to improvements in the welfare of neighboring communities.
